I don't know about you but I thought some of people's problem comes from the fact that you go from the big action at the end of Planet to kind of the quiet build of Death Proof.
I totally agree with this. It's like Rodriquez got everybody hyped up on sugar and jittering around in their seats with explosions and puss boils and sexy shit like hypodermic needle guns, and go-go dancers with machine gun legs ... and then Tarantino started up with character development and building a storyline and people started freaking out.
I actually liked the switch from the frantic energy of Planet Terror to Death Proof, and I love Tarantino's dialogue and totally got sucked into it, but I can see how the disconnect between the two films could throw some people off.
I think Death Proof chronologically comes before Planet Terror as well (in PT there's a tribute to Jungle Julia and Dakota is still looking nice and neat in her hospital garb) so it might have been better to switch the order.
Then again, Death Proof might have been too slow a burn and they might have been afraid that if they didn't start off with a bang people would leave before PT. Then again, considering how awesome the ending of DP was, I don't think that would have been a problem. I was way more revved up after DP ended the when PT ended.
Oh well. I just hate the bad rap that DP is getting because it didn't begin with pickled balls.
