The Sci Fi channel has picked up Painkiller Jane for a second season, according to my sources. Yeah, I don't really understand it, either, but I'm happy for Kristanna, and at least we'll have an out actress on cable TV awhile longer. - afterellen.com
This really, really makes me wish that Blade had been on the SciFi Channel because we totally would have gotten like 10 seasons of it *cries*
Still, I'll admit I'm happy about this. I really enjoy looking at Kristanna and listening to her smoky growl, so I'll keep watching, and cringing, and murmuring "preeeetty".

Totally! And they would have been totally happy that women were actually watching!

bribepetition the Sci-Fi Channel into buying the rights to Blade and Drive and pandering to our every whim?I really wish The Sarah Connor's Chronicles were on Sci-Fi, at least that way they'd stand a fighting chance.

Oh, ramblings finally you pay off.
P.S. love the icon, it's fascinating to me. That cat is very archy, I can't look away!

Isn't that the way it should be, really? As Mameha would say, you cannot tell a whore to whore less.
i really hate you right now for making me d/l gray matters instead of waiting for the dvd and watching it from the comfort of my sofa
[Nelson]Ha ha![/Nelson] Seriously though, you'll thank me and offer to do things that you never thought you'd do because you're so grateful to me for sharing Bridget Moynahan's butt, GoGA, and funny with you. Stuff with ping-pongs balls and everything! You'll see!
you canadian svengali, you
Whaaa? That can't be. Canadians, and pure and light, sugar and spice, we're the spoon full of sugar that makes the medicine go down. *follow the watch, you're getting very sleepy ... count backwards from 50*

Oh, if only PKJ could lure over some of the soon-to-be out of work BSG writers. How glorious that would be *twirls* Depth and character development, and intriguing instead of stupid moral ambiguity, a GOOD leader, female characters that will punch someone in the face if they sexually harass them. Oh, what a day that would be.
And they would have been totally happy that women were actually watching!
*sigh* I hate SPIKE so much. I just can't even fathom the idiocy of them canceling a show because girls liked it. Who is running that network, 5 year old boys?

I know. I'm very leery of getting attached to anything that is on Fox, but I inevitably get sucked in and then it's like a sucker punch to the gut when they cancel it.
Drive, I guess would have had a hard time with SciFi since it isn't exactly sci fi, but Blade totally would have done well on it (though we probably would have gotten less of Chase's bum, though probably not less subtext since we did see get a Baltar/Six/Three threesome on BSG)

Hopefully, like with Xena, they'll crank up the subtext in season two.

"Damn you. Damn you and your persuasiveness. I'm tempted to watch the show now. First Blade now this. Are you sure you don't have persuasive psychic powers or something? Because I am totally beginning to think you do. *suspicious eye*"
see...svengali...;)

After last episode I really thought PKJ was done for. I kept shaking my head and wondering how it was even possible that the whole cast and crew thought it was okay to film this silly plot.
Granted, it was horrible for this young girl to lose her parents and almost drown but still...
And what was that about Jane practically torturing that poor guy Alan, forcing him to revisit an obviously traumatic experience. And this because of some totally lame reason like someone thought that maybe something strange had happened ?!? When she totally lied to the doctor I wasn't even surprised.
It's definitely time for Kristanna to take out the ol'battleaxe and demand better writing. I'm happy for her that she's going to get a chance to turn this around, but I'm wondering about her judgment esp. given that she's a producer on the show.
I'm going to hazard a guess that what we're seeing is the LoserFanBoy/LoserFanGirl (counting myself amongst those since I likely will keep watching) factor at work here. There must be enough of them watching to keep the ratings reasonable?

Did the parts not download at all, or did you have trouble joining them with hjsplit after downloading?
see...svengali...;)
lol, I saw that and I knew another svengali comment was coming :D I guess it can no longer be denied. I'll just embrace my inner evil genius and use my powers for my own personal gain, because really ... I like me best ;)

Well according to Sarah Warn over at afterellen it has been. There's been no official confirmation of that yet. But I share your incredulity.
I kept shaking my head and wondering how it was even possible that the whole cast and crew thought it was okay to film this silly plot.
Yeah, for some of these episodes you really wonder if anyone read the whole script, or watched the whole finished product.
what was that about Jane practically torturing that poor guy Alan, forcing him to revisit an obviously traumatic experience
Was Alan the first crazy guy that was scared of her gun, or the killer guy. Cause I didn't feel too bad for the killer guy what with him being a killer and all.
like someone thought that maybe something strange had happened ?!?
lol, reminds me of that Buffy quote (paraphrased) "I know that something's happening. Not in the sense that I know what's going on, but I know that there's something I don't know!
When she totally lied to the doctor I wasn't even surprised.
Really didn't like this move, and hope that it's a result of the episode being aired out of order instead of a sign of where Jane is going. With the talk of Jane maybe being a neuro at the end, and Mo saying "we can't do that, can we? Someone should tell her that." I think that maybe this should have been one of the first episodes before Jane starts sympathizing with the neuros. At least I hope so, cause totally didn't like that decision.
but I'm wondering about her judgment esp. given that she's a producer on the show.
lol. I've been thinking the exact same thing. It's like 'you have some control over this, how can you be letting this crap go to air with your name attached to it?'. I mean, in her defensive she's a novice executive producer, but there are plenty of good genre writers writing for shows out in Vancouver, she should at least see if she could steal some of them over to PKJ (especially soon to be out of work BSG writers). It's like if you don't know how to fix it, hire someone who does!
I'm going to hazard a guess that what we're seeing is the LoserFanBoy/LoserFanGirl (counting myself amongst those since I likely will keep watching) factor at work here. There must be enough of them watching to keep the ratings reasonable?
I think that's a reasonable assumption. Or they're hoping that more genre fans will gravitate towards it eventually. In any case I'm going to continue to help keep this piece of crap on the air. I mean, if Mutant X, Relic Hunter, Andromeda and loads of other shows could have multiple seasons, why not PKJ with my pretty, pretty, silky voice Lokinator?

I felt the same way. I was actually disappointed when I realized there was no new episode. Because I'm in Canada I had to write to a message board asking about it and everything.
Hopefully, like with Xena, they'll crank up the subtext in season two.
That would be glorious. Lets hope the writing gets a bit better too, and the other characters get personalities that aren't completely annoying, lol

Apparently, I'm a Canadian Svengali. What can I say? :D
I'm tempted to watch the show now. First Blade now this.
I stand firmly by the Blade recommendation. As for PKJ, know that finding Kristanna Loken ridiculously good looking is probably the only thing that will make the show tolerable for you. Now, I love me some Lokinator so I can take it, but if you are horribly traumatized by PKJ's awfulness I take no responsibility, lol

let me poke around and see if i can find that short film somewhere...you know after i figure out what the name of it is...i mean i don't want to disappoint jesus...especially if jesus is a 25 year old black chick..;)

Well, in my defense I couldn't have known that SPIKE was run by complete morons. I mean, their regular programming would suggest it, but then they put out this good show and I thought, 'no network of this quality could be stupid enough to cancel the only good thing its ever done'. But I was wrong, and, and, and, I HATE SPIKE!
i'm wary of watching PKJ, but damnit! you and your powers of fannish persuasion are starting to crack my reserves.... and if all of a sudden Sci-Fi cancels PKJ, i'm blaming you, J. ::smirk::
I'll warn you know not to be expecting anything near the quality of Blade with PKJ. I can't really in good conscience recommend PKJ unless you think Lokinator is dreamy. Lokinator's extreme good looks are the only thing that's keeping me watching right now.
Then again, if SCIFI does cancel it, it probably is my fault, because all the shows I like (or in this cause just watch, lol) end up dying quick deaths. *sigh* DRIIIIIIIVE, I miss you!

I say: Join the club. We meet every week. We have t-shirts. And free cookies. 'Cuz who doesn't like free cookies? I'm vice-president. Maybe you could be...treasurer with your dastardly persuasiveness.
And I thank you for doing so.
I wouldn't say she's ridiculously good looking...More like really, really pretty. But that's just me.
Hmmmmm. That comment has conflicted me so. Maybe I'll just listen to your rants...er, I mean *cough* Insightful musings. *phew, good save*

Alan was the first guy who was totally scared and kept saying he didn't want to have to remember while Jane kept going, "please try" instead of backing off.
Really didn't like this move
Jane wasn't very thoughtful in this episode. She was all about getting what she needed with no regard for folks who were in the middle. The show's made it clear that neuros don't have a great sense of right and wrong and now it's coming out that Jane is a neuro. I'm assuming this was meant to tip us off that Jane's sense of right and wrong is starting to go now that her neuro powers have been activated. It doesn't seem like the show's writers have the writing chops to pull off something like this and keep us caring about Jane as a character, so I'm a bit worried.
I think that maybe this should have been one of the first episodes before Jane starts sympathizing with the neuros
Seems like as early as the 2nd episode where the neuro is the teenage boy, Jane and Maureen seem to sympathize a little. In fact when Amanda showed up, I was wondering if she would be the one who would turn out to be a neuro in a later ep and make Jane realize that the current approach that McBride and co are taking to neuros is just not right.
there are plenty of good genre writers writing for shows out in Vancouver, she should at least see if she could steal some of them over to PKJ
I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that she does this. If she's reading the afterellen pkj recaps, she should be clear that something needs to be done asap :D.
