Not only is it worth the watch just to look at Mylene Jamponai (pretty, pretty eyes) and Li Xiaoran (she makes lounging an art) for a couple hours, the landscapes showcased in the film are absolutely stunning. The relationship between Min Li and An, is intense, beautiful, tragic and captivating.

Oooh, it's a good one. I just watched it again, and fell in love with those two all over again. They're totally like my live action adult Yumi (Li Ming) and Sachiko (An).

Oooh, I loved the movie. Those initial interactions and coy smiles between An and Li Ming and how quickly they take to each other: so cute. That scene were An digs up a piece of ginseng is perfect in its simplicity.
The gorgeous surroundings make every one of Mylene Jampanoi's adoring looks at An with those amazing eyes that much more affecting. There was very little dialogue but both actresses completely sold the story.

The movie has the same anachronistic, westernized feel as Indochine, but hey, that's a good thing in my book.

Once I have all the parts, how do I 'glue' them together?

[identity profile] fembuck.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Download hjsplit (http://www.cnet.com.au/downloads/0,239030384,10550267s,00.htm), and then you just chose the 'join' option in that program, select the lesfillesdubotaniste file (although there are three, just the first one will show up in the program and that's fine it will join them automatically). Then in a minute or so you'll have the whole file

Thanks. I have a Mac and was able to get the pieces together. Now I'm trying to get the subtitle file to work right. I'm trying to get VLC to see it, but so far nothing. What program do you use to see the subs?

[identity profile] fembuck.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
I use bsplayer (http://www.click-now.net/download/BSPlayer.htm). Then just went to the 'load subtitles' option in the menu and it played them together and in sync. I pretty much play all my files in bsplayer, I really like that player and it's not as finiky with what types of files it will play as others are.

In VLC, go to Preferences-> Video-> Subtitles/OSD. Then select the movie's .srt file for the "use subtitle file" option. You may have to turn off "autodetect subtitle files" as well.

Got it to work, thanks for the help!

Thanks! I found a Mac compatible one and got it joined. I watched a few minutes and DAMN that woman's eyes!

[identity profile] fembuck.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent, glad you got it to work :D

I watched a few minutes and DAMN that woman's eyes!

I know! Seriously, they are like the most striking thing ever, they just jump off the screen at you. I developed a huge girl!crush on Mylene Jampanoi after watching this movie. Plus, the woman does great 'bedroom eyes', which is always a treat. Li Xiaoran is also great as An, once you see her smile its like 'and now I swoon helplessly'.

Okay, I'm gonna stop rambling and just let you enjoy it now, lol

Thanks so much for posting this download! I had heard about this movie from the AfterEllen website. I've been trying to search for it on ebay/amazon since, without any success until I saw it on your LJ page. I belong to a queer Asian organization and we love to screen queer Asian movies on a semi-regular basis in our homes. It's a lot of fun to see them in a group setting, as they almost never make it to the mainstream movie theaters.

Cheers,
SJ

I feel like I'm major late in posting this, but still wanted to pop in and say thanks. I just finished watching it, and yes, the eyes are amazing, but Li Xiaoran? She just lounged her way through the movie, very thoroughly.

Such great landscapes, such great use of silence; again, thanks for the rec and post.
