Repost: BSG: Razor ramblings
I totally need to take a nap right now but that's not gonna stop me from rambling for a bit ...
First, I'm going to allow my shallower viewer to show by saying ... Shaw was mad hot. Seriously, I was girl crushing on her. And the accent *swoons* I would have loved to see more of Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen's fine self on BSG, but since we'd never heard of Shaw before I figured she wasn't long for the world.
Second, it was nice to see Starbuck going back to her roots. Watching Razor I remembered why I liked Starbuck so much, and mourned how much her mopiness last season sucked. Plus Katee smiling = love. I really enjoyed all of Starbucks scenes in this, which I haven't been able to say in a very long time.
Third, I love watching Michelle Forbes on my screen. Seriously, she's so good. She was amazing in this. I mean, I can never get behind what Cain did but Michelle really sold her as a fallible human. I mean I understand where Cain was coming from, how the situation, and her personality, and Gina's betrayal fucked her up to a point where she was doing things based on her screwed up emotional state, but really thought that she was doing what was best for everyone. It was heartbreaking to watch, but beautifully acted.
Seriously Michelle, you make me lust after Cain so much.
Fourth, the femslasher in me kind of loved the romance. No it wasn't a huge part of the movie, but it was important to Cain's storyline and it was glorious in its angst. I liked that we were given an explanation for how Cain could allow what happened to Gina to happen (even though seeing it hurt). On a shallower note, it was nice to see Tricia and Michelle making schmoopy faces at each other for while, though all of their cute interaction was also heartbreaking because you knew what was going to happen.
I also liked that they had Gina pause when she had the opportunity to shoot Cain in CC. It made the whole romance even more tragic because Gina did have real feelings for Cain even if she did betray her. *gets misty-eyed*
The femslasher in me also loved that Shaw seemed to have a crush on Cain as well (or that Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen had a crush on Michelle Forbes. I don't know, but either way it was awesome).
Fifth, more shallow viewing ... it was nice to see Steve Bacic as Cain's first XO. I love Steve Bacic like whoa *pets the pretty*
Sixth, Starbuck as the bringer of destruction to humanity? Great, awesome ... more issues for Starbuck. Because I love mopey issues ridden Starbuck ... oh wait, did I say love? I meant HATE! PASSIONATELY HATE MOPEY ISSUES RIDDEN STARBUCK! *sigh*
Speaking of that though, I totally would have loved the stuff with the hybrid more if Pete Postlethwaite had been playing him. It just seems like something Pete Postlethwaite should have played and I was irrationally annoyed by the hybrid because of it.
Finally, all in all, I really liked Razor. I enjoyed seeing more Cain and getting to know Shaw even though she was essentially a footnote.
P.S. I can't believe the Cylons were stupid enough to let model 6's board the Pegasus knowing that they had an agent on board. What kind of planning was that? Bad Cylons, bad!
