The Gates (a.k.a your weekly dose of Rhona Mitra with fangs!)

So ABC has put up the first 17 minutes of their new summer show The Gates (premieres June 20th), starring your favorite and mine, Rhona Mitra.

I must admit the first few minutes had me rolling my eyes, but by the time the 17 minutes was up I was pretty engrossed in the show and I actually yelled at the screen when the preview ended because that scene was INTENSE. It should also be noted that the preview was like 40% Rhona Mitra (Claire Radcliffe) which I greatly approved of! I'm so happy that her character is going to figure prominently as she is my main draw to the show. Well, Rhona and the fact that I love vampires and werewolves!

Also, based on the little montage of what is to come on the show that they featured at the end of the sneak peek, I'm already shipping Claire and Devon (the lovely Chandra West).

The hate-sex/fight-sex/antagonism-sex between them would be amazing! Plus, I love my blonde/brunette pairing, lol.

Honestly, this show is not going to approach the epic levels of awesome of True Blood but I think that it could be some fun summer entertainment and that I'm going to be able to stare at Rhona Mitra (with fangs) for extended periods of time, so I'm in.

WORD! That confrontation scene was so hot. I love that on the ABC website they have the dialogue from that scene in the character bios, because I'm hoping it means that the Claire/Devon relationship/rivalry will be a focus of the show, which means plenty of screen time for the lovely ladies to gay it up.

Rhona has great chemistry with female co-stars (she even managed to gay up that scene with the cops wife a little bit) so I'm really looking forward to their first scene together.

OH, HELLS YES. This will give me something else current to watch besides True Blood now that all my shows have gone up and had their season finales at the same bloody time. Plus I'll eat up anything supernatural, in particular vampires & werewolves in the same fandom ~~just like all the fucking tweens~~.

Have you read the latest book? I have it and have been trying to read it for months. Fail. Not enough Ivy.

I started to read it, but when I heard what happened in it, I couldn't force myself to continue. I think that Kim might have well and truly killed my interest in the series. I just get exhausted when I think about the series now, I can't even work up a good rant or hate for it now. I'm just like *sigh* no1curr.

And I've always felt like there's never enough Ivy, but I know that it was particularly galling in this last book.

but Hollows is more and more becoming Hate/loath. *sigh* I can't even finish the fic I started to post :(

It just absolutely KILLS me that Hollows 1-4 is EXACTLY what I want to read but there's no continuation. I haven't found anything like it. Anywhere. The moment Kim slammed the breaks on Ivy and Rachel is the moment the series took a deep dive.

As much as I hate what Kim's done to the characters and the series, I think killing my interest in fanfic for the series is the evilest thing she's managed to do. Like how badly do you have to screw up a series to ruin fanfic for someone who had been hardcore? *shudder*

This. The beginning of the series was so good. The Rachel/Ivy friendship/developing relationship really was the heart of the series though and the strongest most unique thing about it, and the slow destruction/mangling of that relationship has destroyed the series. Rachel/Ivy was what made this series special, and without it the series and Rachel are just boring and pedestrian.

IMHO there's no point in writing if you don't feel inspired to.

since i knew about our mutual love of Rhona Mitra, i simply waiting for you to post something about this show. the fact that she was staring in a new show where she plays a vamp is ENTIRELY too delicious! i couple weeks back a saw a quick promo for it and it left me momentarily stunned before my brain started processing that Rhona will be playing vamp w/slight Desperate Housewives-feel to it makes me all tingly inside. needless to say i'll be looking forward to checking it out.

LOL! Aw, I actually genuinely enjoyed Doomsday! It makes no fucking sense whatsoever, but Rhona is so badass in it that I was just like "Me gusta!" throughout the whole thing.

There is really only one wrod to describe that preview....yum. Rhona with fangs, Rhona in the shower, Rhona in a little silk looking robe and then Rhona gettin all fierce with her "I could end you" line. Just....yum.

just watch it and must admit I liked it. found all the characters, adult & teen, interesting but found the adult story lines much more appealing. I think Devon, the bad witch, is going to be a hoot.

This is definitely a show where the adults are infinitely more interesting than the teens. Actually I liked Brett's (the werewolf) storyline and I'm interested in that, but the instant-romance between Charlie and Andie did not really appeal to me at all.

This! She's gorgeous, catty in a fun way, and there are hints that there's more to her than meets the eye. The character hits on a lot of things that appeal to me, so I think she's going to be a favorite of mine.
