Pretty Little Liars, pretty damn good
Tonight's episode was pretty good.
Hanna continues to be amazing. I have to be honest and say she is my favorite of the girls. She just continues to amaze me with her awesome. Snarky with a heart of gold is weakness of mine. I want to be BFF with Hanna. She is a fierce protector. She would definitely [Heavily ironic usage of quote from The Blindside]score in the 11th percentile for protective instincts[/HIUoQfTB].
Why do Alison and Emily have so much more chemistry than Emily and Maya? Alison actually does seem magnetic in scenes with Emily and you could totally see in those scenes how she could draw people to her like moths to a flame. I was cringing at Andy/Charlie reading poetry to each other on The Gates on Sunday, but I could watch Alison read quotes from Great Expectations to Emily all day. That whole scene was ripe with tension. It was like a glistening strawberry waiting to be bitten into. And then the locker room scene.
Damn, Alison was a master manipulator. She knew exactly what effect dropping that towel would have on Emily. Emily stroking Alison's arm, and the gentle kiss to her neck were so heartbreakingly sweet. Watching Alison tear into her right after made me le sad. The "Where do you think you're going? You're my ride" and Emily stopping and leaning against the locker to wait for her at the end of the scene was such a punch to the gut, but it really did show what control Alison had over her. Emily/Alison is so dysfunctional but I'm fascinated by them. I do wish that they had cast a person in their twenties to play Alison like they did with everyone else though, because the thought of ficcing Emily/Alison makes me uncomfortable because of the age of the actress *le sigh*
Moving on ... Emily's coming out scene was so weird. I was glad that the girl's had a non-reaction to the news. I was sure they would, but it was still nice to see the revelation being all "I'll alert ... no one" instead of "I'll alert the media!". It's nice to see progress in action. The scene was just weirdly constructed as well. Emily's heavily cliche "I liked Alison, like more than a friend" seemed to be inserted really awkwardly in an already super awkwardly constructed conversation. Also Shay's acting *giggles* Bless her heart, really. She seems like a delightful girl and she makes out with chicks and kisses their shoulders beautifully, but her acting *giggles again*
I'm digging the Sydney/Chad Lowe interactions/budding relationship. I might even learn their names if they continue on like this. It's like the first time ever I haven't found Chad Lowe creepy.
I have to agree with the others who have been bowled over by Troian's good looks. I barely paid attention to Spencer in the pilot, but as the show has progressed I've become more and more taken with her. I think she came to claim a part of my heart for good last episode in one of the flashbacks when she delivered that, "Don't you ever get tired of shooting at the low hanging fruit?" line. The bikini and that snark = me being pwned.
Spencer and Alex are doomed, even with the show playing down Spencer's type-A personality a lot from the books, Alex is still to chillaxed about life for me to think they'll be together long, but I like their chemistry together and ...
It allowed Spencer's mom to get some face time, and I now LOVE Spencer's Mom. She was the ultimate hottie for me this episode. Her smack down of Wilden was orgasmically satisfying. I've been waiting for Wilden to get smacked down (and no Jason being snippy with him last week doesn't count no matter how nice Jason looked in that suit) and Spencer's Mom did it so beautifully. Her rising to the occasion and telling Spencer about her drinking and the troubles she'd had recently before telling Spencer that Alex was a keeper also endeared her to me.
I continue not to give two shits about Aria and the Fitz, that relationship is so super sketchy that I keep just waiting for Fitz and his boyish good looks to get arrested. Lucy Hale actually looks the age she is playing which makes their scenes together really uncomfortable to watch. Fitz and Holly Marie Combs together however I could get into. Aria's really the most boring of the PLL for me so far.
No Jenna tonight *sadness*
I can't believe next week's episode is the finale *super duper sadness*
*hopes the internetz provides .gifs of that arm rub and shoulder kiss soon! Come on Internetz do your thang!*

Spencer's mother FTW! I wanted to applaud at my TV when she told off Wilden. LOVE her. Also is it just me or does she look like Mariska Hargitay? I was totally seeing Olivia Benson at some parts.
Hanna always was and forever will be my favourite. (I totally ship her/Emily) Her telling off Mona was priceless.
Aria IS the most boring PLL. I was really bored with her storyline in the books too :/ although I really like Noel.
Also Shay's acting *giggles* Bless her heart, really. She seems like a delightful girl and she makes out with chicks and kisses their shoulders beautifully, but her acting *giggles again*
Thiiiiisssss. Hopefully she improves during the break.
I am so psyched for next week's episode if that text is about what I think it is.

It's awkward for sure. I mean, it shouldn't stop Emily/Alison ficcing, but I just don't want to think up sexy situations when my visual is an actual 14 year old.
Sasha's doing a great job though. She's got a lot of presence and comes off as much older than the rest of the girls (except for Spencer). She may not be Amanda Seyfried as Lily Kane dazzling, but I think she's doing a great job.
Also is it just me or does she look like Mariska Hargitay? I was totally seeing Olivia Benson at some parts.
I'm going to have to go back and take another look at her.

She really is. I was always bored by her in the books too. Noel seems cool, but being in scenes with Aria is dragging him down.
Hopefully she improves during the break.
Word. Pretty, pretty girl but I'd like some acting ability with the attractiveness please. As Emily's storyline gets more dramatic (all of her friends interacting with Maya, her dad returning home, the blowout when her mom finds out about her and Maya) good acting or at least adequate acting is going to be required.

What text? I didn't get to see preview for the next episode :(

It's funny, but, all of these girls are pretty well rounded and seem to have honest friendships with each other, which makes me wonder how they all could have been friends with Alison?
What I've gathered from the clips is that Alison was different with each one of them when they were alone together. When it was just Alison with one other girl, she would masterfully massage what ever insecurity needed tending and then, just to keep them in check, give a little pinch at the end to exert her dominance. It's like a classic lifetime movie of the week/battered woman syndrome, "She's only like this when she's menstruating...When we're alone she can be really sweet."
I ain't gonna lie, I fast forwarded it through the Chad Lowe/Sydney scenes. I find something strangely unsettling about him and I can't sit through a scene with him.
Oh and FINALLY, someone who knows their rights! Thank you Spencer's Mom!!! I've been getting really annoyed with the cop who flagrantly violates basic rights. Although, really Spencer? You’re wicked smart and your mom’s a bad ass attorney and you don’t know that cops can’t speak to you without a parent? Google that shit! And you, Officer Trying To Look Tough But Just Coming Off As Creepy, did you ever watch a single episode of Law and Order. You can just interrogate kids! Weez got laws and you’re a cop so you should a least know some of them! I loved it when Hannah snatched the letter away from him. If I were her I would have said, "I'm taking this, you'll just have to find something else to jerk off to."
Ezra/Aria..that shit just creeps me out. Don't Fuck your underage, high school students! Period. End of Story.
I'm super sad about the hiatus till January...Where am I gonna get my lezbot fix till then...TV is a barren wasteland for lesbians it would seem. And don't say anything about 'The Real L-Word'. I refuse to accept that show as an option.

This. Hanna's funny and a good person. Selling her bags last week really got me in the heart. Hanna's a good kid, and really the fiercest friend on the series. If I was a PLL Hanna's the one I'd go to for almost anything (except planning a party, then I'd go to Spencer, lol).
which makes me wonder how they all could have been friends with Alison?
Well, if it's like the books they were all pretty much loners before Alison. Alison befriended them all the same summer and it's through her that they came together. All of them knew Alison best and were therefore less likely to confide in each other.
It's like a classic lifetime movie of the week/battered woman syndrome, "She's only like this when she's menstruating...When we're alone she can be really sweet."
Oh god, I know. It's especially like this with Emily. Spencer and Hanna in the past knew exactly what Alison was but stayed affiliated with her for their own reasons. Aria was off in Aria world, and Emily was totally in love and blind to Alison's faults.
You’re wicked smart and your mom’s a bad ass attorney and you don’t know that cops can’t speak to you without a parent? Google that shit!
Yeah, it's hard to believe that Spencer would take it like that. I'm really curious to see whether they'll keep the stuff from the book that gives a reason for Spencer's hesitance to rock the boat with the police too much.
Ezra/Aria..that shit just creeps me out. Don't Fuck your underage, high school students! Period. End of Story.
This. The storyline is awful and creepy. I can never root for them. It's illegal and for a reason. You've really got to wonder about Fitz. I don't care how handsome the actor is, the character is creepy as fuck.
And don't say anything about 'The Real L-Word'. I refuse to accept that show as an option.
Don't worry, I refuse to acknowledge the existence of that show ;)

Aw, she might age fine. They're definitely aging her with make-up (which I think fits the character, Alison definitely would have tried to appear older), and Alison acts a lot older than she is, which makes her feel older.
But yeah, I never would have guessed her real age just by looking at her. She really does look 19-21ish.
They need to hire a new casting director because clearly this one is on crack.
Oh, I know. The casting of Bianca Lawson is really ridiculous. She looks young for her age, but not that young. And the fact that Maya is an aloof, "old-soul" kind of character makes her seems older too. Add that to the fact that Shay looks young and it's weird seeing them side by side.
And considering all of the stuff Alison got up to before she died I don't know why they would hire a 14 year old. It's not just hours that child actors are allowed to work, the reason to cast 19-25 year olds is that it doesn't creep the audience out to then cheer for make-out scenes. I'd love in theory to see a scene where Alison revealed she did have some romantic feelings for Emily by having a make-out scene, but all I can think about is how awkward that would be for Shay Mitchell and I want to spare her that, lol.

lol, I'm sure it's legal because she didn't show anything but her back (and her front was surely completely covered up) but it's awkward to watch knowing she's a ninth grader.
It's such a double edged sword because I think E/A have great chemistry, and I think that most of that chemistry is due to Sasha's acting, but I wish they had a different actress playing Alison so that I could perv on E/A.
And yeah, their relationship is totally dysfunctional, dom/sub dynamics, but I'm fascinated by them.

did you really have to say 9th grader :/
i can't even look at them kiss anymore. all I can think of is 10 year age gap, you can drink and she just got her first training bra :(
ignorance is such bliss

I like the E/A scenes because Emily hasn't learned to be guarded/ashamed of her feelings yet in those scenes so there's this openness to their interactions that's nice.
The way Alison reacted to her and ran hot and cold really does explain a lot of Emily's earlier hesitance with Maya. Hopefully now we'll get to see some cute scenes between Maya and Emily (like the one where Emily asked her out on a date) that will show off the E/M chemistry. Lots of making out scenes would be nice too because Shay and Bianca make-out together very well, lol
Total awesome ripping into the cop (who I only know from Popular, epic show too)
lol, Josh Ford. Damn, I loved "Popular". Too bad Bryce is stuck playing a complete jerk in this role.
