Is anyone else ...

watching In Plain Sight

This show is freaking hilarious, and I've totally gotten hooked (to the point where I'm trying to get my hands on Mary's cross-over episode with L&O:CI - though I suspect she won't be as hilarious and sassy in that).

The only thing I don't like about it is Lesley Ann Warren (but then again I NEVER like Lesley Ann Warren).

Mary is almost too sarcastic to function (which means I love her to an insane degree), and she totally studied at the Olivia Benson school of Hot!Cops.  They should cloth her in nothing but jeans and tight tops (or in nothing at all).

Fred Weller is comedy gold.  His delivery of simplest lines cracks me up.  I also cannot believe that that man is 42 years old.  He's not just aging like a fine wine, he's NOT aging like a vampire or something.  Seriously, Marshall is dreamy.

Is is just me or does Nicole Hiltz (aka Brandi) look a lot like Ashley Scott?  I think she looks like Ashley Scott which makes me predisposed to like her (though I must admit Brandi becomes more likeable with every episode - especially when she isn't burdened with scenes with Lesley Ann Warren)

Also, is it just me or do Mary and Brandi have more chemistry with each other than they do with either of their "love interests"?  Seriously, they bicker like an old married couple.  It's presh.  *sobs*  DAMN YOU IN PLAIN SIGHT FOR PULLING AN ALIAS AND MAKING THE HOT CHICKS RELATED!  *sobs more because I don't think I can actually slash them ... well, maybe if they were both drunk*

Oh, I am absolutely in *love* with IPS!! It just keeps getting better and better every week. I still think last week's ep where Marshall gets shot was a bit too soon. It needed to be later in the season after we'd gotten used to their partnership before we had a 'Oh noes, Mary's partner is about to die!' episode. Still, MM just killed me at the end when she broke down.

I also cannot believe that that man in 42 years old.

::blinks:: He's 42? Does not compute!

though I must admit Brandi becomes more likeable with every episode..

It's probably because they're bothering to expand her beyond 'ditzy, screwup sister' whereas Lesley Ann Warren is still stuck in 'drunken, floozey of a mother' territory. Does make me wonder if they've dropped the 'giant bag of coke' that was in the pilot.

Very true. His "I needed to decide for myself" talk would have had more impact later on in the season because we would have gotten to see more of this type of behavior from Mary.

Also, I wasn't worried about him dying because I SIMPLY REFUSED TO BELIEVE IT WAS A POSSIBILITY! After their "you're my only friend" conversation my brain would not accept that anything could come between their perfect platonic partnership. Seriously, I love them together.

::blinks:: He's 42? Does not compute!

Oh I know. I actually had to get out my calculator and calculate it, because I thought that my math HAD to be wrong. Also, he's Robocop's cousin! How cool is that?

It's probably because they're bothering to expand her beyond 'ditzy, screwup sister'

Very true. And I'm so happy, because I didn't want to be annoyed by the eye candy (I've developed a girlcrush on Nicole Hiltz). They just best not have her sleep with Chico (I can't remember the character's real name). I liked their interaction this week, but it will kill some of Brandi love if she sleeps with the man that proposed to her sister.

Does make me wonder if they've dropped the 'giant bag of coke' that was in the pilot.

I certainly hope so. Mary's personal life doesn't need any more drama. I also don't want Mary's family taking up too much screen time. I liked how Brandi and Chico were used this week (that's just the right amount of time) and if she gets a real side story it'll be too much (and probably very annoying).

I concur on all points! lol Although I do vote for the no clothing at all option because she's just...yeah. What would really be hot is an Olivia/Mary crossover fic with Elliot and Marshall being all snarky together. I did love that in the second episode they really showed Mary's soft side when she was watching over the kid.

I also cannot believe that that man is 42 years old.

I'm sorry, what? *is bewildered*

His comedic timing is just so on point every. single. time.

And yeah, I also agree that they need to either, A) do away totally with Mary's mother or B) they need to make her less...cliché.

In Plain Sight is gold!

Could not agree more. I'm so glad that I started watching it.

I do vote for the no clothing at all option because she's just...yeah.

That scene in the pilot when she was all naked and glistening and post-coital made my pants happy (not even Raphael - hey, I remembered his name! - could dampen the hawtness of that scene for me)

What would really be hot is an Olivia/Mary crossover fic

Mary's already crossed over onto CI, so it could totally work because the shows are in the same universe (though that makes the comment that Mary was watching "too much law and order" on this weeks episode a little head scratching).

I did love that in the second episode they really showed Mary's soft side when she was watching over the kid.

Yeah, I really enjoyed that. I also enjoy her scene with Brandi when they are bickering back and forth, because there's an affection there that softens her a little.

I'm sorry, what? *is bewildered*

Yeah, I know! I would have pegged him for early 30s. His wife = lucky. I have a major boy!crush on Marshall.

His comedic timing is just so on point every. single. time.

So true. I love that he's so understated too. Like his "I know my wood. Don't" was pure gold.

And yeah, I also agree that they need to either, A) do away totally with Mary's mother or B) they need to make her less...cliché.

I want them to get rid of her. Just let her move in with eye-eyed Dan and his pretty dog and get her off my screen. Even less cliche I think I would still dislike her because Warren's acting style just bugs (in fact I'm convinced that at least like 40% of my dislike is based on the characterization and not just the writing)

I think they need to make the mom less cliche. Because, for reasons I can't understand, I kinda like Lesley Ann Warren. You can beat me up for that.

Otherwise, completely agree on all the IPS love. And I would kill for Olivia/Mary fic.

IPS FTW. Seriously, it made me fall in love with Mary McCormack. I <3 the L&O:CI ep she was on.

I keep thinking her sister is Amy Smart for some reason LOL. I mean, I know it's not, they just look similar. And so true on the chemistry thing! The shower scene this week would have been awesome if not for the sisterness of them.

*cries* I'm still trying to download it.

Poor Nicole Hiltz. Everyone thinks she's someone that's not her. Oh well, in all cases we think she's foxy.

The shower scene this week would have been awesome if not for the sisterness of them.

Oh, I know. For a second there I thought Mary was gonna come out naked, and I would've just about died. But, still Brandi sauntering in there like it wasn't no thing when Mary was showering was 'guh'. Damn you writers! Damn you! (seriously, one of this days, I'm gonna get tipsy and slash them. I know it will happen)

Yes, I've been watching and loving this show...(Hallelujah for torrents...I don't think they're planning on showing this in Australia anytime soon, if ever, so...)

Aside from the obvious likability of Mary, I'm fascinated to see Lesley Ann Warren again...Then, there's all the other characters, which are all quite enjoyable and likeable in their own right...And yes, to the chemistry between Mary and Brandi...(Damn the writers for not making them step-sisters twice removed or something...)

I know, torrents are how I've seen the show (though, I just realized yesterday that they are playing it on Global in Canada, but they're like 2 episodes behind so torrents it is!)

Then, there's all the other characters, which are all quite enjoyable and likeable in their own right...

I really enjoy the mix of characters. They've done a really good job with the guest stars as well. Missy Pyle (and that lady who played her mother) were fantastic, Dave Foley was great as usual, Sherri Springfield was fantastic. They've created a very fun, very wacky universe that I'm loving.

And yes, to the chemistry between Mary and Brandi...(Damn the writers for not making them step-sisters twice removed or something...)

I know! Although, I have officially given into the adorableness and written a very tame Mary/Brandi fic. They're just too cute. Seriously, the show needs to get another recurring female character on the show so that I'll stop!

[identity profile] charrua33.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The actress playing Missi's mum is Joanna Cassidy, she was also in Bladerunner (love this movie)...

Just saw that you posted a Mary/Brandi fic, off to enjoy...

*snicker* Mary is possibly one of the coolest characters currently on TV. First time I actually saw her was that CI ep - and yes, she's just as snarky and sarcastic as in the actual show, it's beautiful.

Her best line? I forget the ep, but she was interrogating some thug about killing someone. He told her that her last question "had better be retorical" . . .

. . . to which she flips the table over onto his chest and - while leaning on it - responds "retorical, huh? That's a pretty big word for a moron."

They need to have another female on the show, someone that can be slashed. Maybe a lesbian witness? *crosses fingers*

Oh, I know. I went into the show not really knowing what to expect, kind of anticipating crappy Lifetime movie of the week quality, and I find myself cracking up from like the first minute of the episode. Mary (and Marshall) are comedy gold.

Her best line?

OMG, it's so hard to choice. That one was great. The show is just so quotable.

Mary: Just so you know, I smacked an Indian in the Johnson with a bar of soap today.
Marshall: Haven't we done enough to those people?
Mary: I'm not proud of it.

or after she comes out of the bathroom after hitting him with the bar of soap show she when she crossed her fingers and said "I hope he calls me."

Marshall's dead pan "You've been very very bad" during Mary's hilarious phone sex call (in fact that whole call had me lmao)

Marshall's "I hope it fills the void" comment, and then his walk away. I am SO going to use that one day to annoy the hell out of someone.

Marshall: These are my Mambo pants.

so many great lines

*sigh* I love this show.
