Just saw Star Trek ...

Fucking amazing!

First of all, Chris Pine is love.  Looking at pictures of him does nothing for me, but on screen as James T. Kirk I wanted him to take me around behind the middle school and get me pregnant.  Seriously, I know Kirk was a ladies man on the original series, but I never bought it with Shatner.  Chris Pine both brought the sexy, and made me believe that Kirk was a genius and worth everyone creaming themselves over him.  I would follow this James T. Kirk into battle.

Uhura/Spock, really amazing.  I didn't know they would be a couple in this film, but I fucking loved them.  Uhura is the best girlfriend ever, and Spock is so schmoopy.  I was so living vicariously through her as she comforted him in the turbolift after Winona Ryder Spock's mother died.  The face holding, the kisses, the hug ... epically romantic.

Speaking of Uhura, did anyone catch what her first name was?  I missed it both when Spock said it, and then when Kirk repeated it while asking if that was her first name.

Karl Urban rocked my panties as Bones.  I loved every single moment he was on screen.  Perfection.  Karl Urban makes flaring your nostrils sexy ya'll.  He's the male Megan Fox that way (only in the nostril flaring/hot sense, I know he's a far better thespian okay!)  Also, I like that we got an explanation of why McCoy was called "Bones".  Maybe they gave an explanation in the Original Series too, but because I wasn't even close to being born when that was on, I never knew where the nickname came from.

Sulu's folding sword was fucking amazing.  I want one of those.  "Fencing."  lol.  Not a lot of Sulu, but I liked what there was of him.

I've loved Anton Yelchin for a long time.  I have no idea what the first thing I saw him in was, but I've always liked the kid.  His Checkov was amazingly precious.  I don't want to hit it, I just want to cuddle it.  Seriously, so precious.  And smart!

Rachel Nichols, I saw you!  You were green!  I have to admit, the greeniosity did obscure her hotness a little, but Gaila was amazing for her one big scene.

Seeing Leonard Nemoy made me ridiculously happy.  Original!Spock you still hold a place in my heart.  But,  Zachary Quinto made a great Spock.  I really loved him in the role, he really was perfection.  Even boy!Spock was awesome.  Also, angry!Spock is disturbingly hot.  So is crouching!action Spock, and vulnerable!Spock ... just Spock in general rocked my socks.

Scotty was good times as well.  I don't always love Simon Pegg (sacriledge I know), but I loved him here.  Scotty yelling at the little rock man all the time cracked me up every time.  Ah, good comedy.

I'm sure there's more I could say, and I know that the movie wasn't perfect (Nero's revenge plan and his whole reason for concocting it were kind of stupid, very Dr. Evil), but overall the movie was just ace and I don't really feel the need to complain.  That was one of the most enjoyable film experiences I've had in a while.

I'm so happy that Trek is rebooted, and that so many non-Trekkies enjoyed the movie and are praising it.

Good job, JJ.  After Cloverfield I was kind of hating you hardcore, but between this and Fringe you've redeemed yourself.  Keep up the good work.

Speaking of Uhura, did anyone catch what her first name was?

Nyota.

The way you feel about Kirk/Chris Pine is the same way I feel about Zachary Quinto/Spock! I mean I stopped watching *Heroes* because of Sylar and was kinda dreading seeing him as Spock but, dear lord, not only did he rock as Spock but I found him completely *hot*! Add in the scorching chemistry with Uhura and I've turned into a squealing fangirl!! And has me searching the internet for icons!

Like you said - was it perfect? No. But great googly-moogly does it have me excited about Star Trek again! I'm ready for them to pull a Twilight and shoot the next bajillion sequels all in a row!

Karl Urban is the prettiest pretty as Bones. I adore him. I'm hoping the fandom that pops up for the movie will be filled with Bones/Kirk slash but I have a feeling traditional Kirk/Spock will still rule the roost despite the pure awesome of canon Uhura/Spock in the movie. Though I'm predicting a lot of Kirk/Uhura/Spock fics.

I loved the movie! I'm just nerdy enough that I was alternating between nerdboy squeeing and hysterical laughter...

Karl Urban = Spot on. You could actually believe that he's gonna be DeForest Kelley in a few years time!

Simon Pegg = Hilarious. I wasn't as gaga over Shaun of the Dead as the rest of the world seemed to be, and I don't *think* I've seen him in anything else, but he totally cracked my ass up in this movie.

Anton Yelchin = Also hilarious... Between his little comments to himself and the accent; the whole scene where he was doing the ship wide announcement had me rolling!

Leonard Nimoy putting in an appearance was just manna from Treknerd heaven. "I am not our father" *rofl*
So much more I could go on about but I need coffee so I'm gonna stop gushing now :D

damn you!!!... i sooooo don't want to see this...i want to feel justified and validated in my unadulterated hate of JJ abrams...but i trust you and love your insight that i may have to amend my original stance. damn you and your canadian svegalism!! *shakes fists violently*

i love, love, love this movie. i've already seen it twice and to be honest, i wouldn't be opposed to seeing it a third time before it leaves theaters. i was afraid that it would feel forced, but everything seemed really organic - which is a big deal considering it IS a reboot, after all. :)

the casting was fantastic. i am in awe of the level of detail that must have went into the filming of this movie. the vocal inflections, the signature phrases, the tiny individual characteristics that are completely necessary for re-building a pre-existing character : it's all in there, and it's 100% natural. as someone familiar with these characters, that's a huge accomplishment because these weren't actors playing some of my favorite characters : these actors truly became those characters, embodying them almost exactly as i've always known them. every single one of them blew me away.

spock/uhura = killed me. their little stolen moments together were perfection.

as you said, there were minor quibbles, but nothing to really make a fuss over. simply put, this movie rocked.

saw it last friday and loved it. i went in with little spoilers except for Zach Quinto being Spock, Jennifer Morrison being Kirk's mom, Winona Ryder being part of the cast so i was constantly/pleasantly surprised.

didn't see the Spock/Uhura romance coming; loved it. Kirk didn't get the girl for a change lol. also saw why Zoe Saldana was on the Maxim list. i nearly laughed out loud when i saw Winona as Spock's mom but she wasn't half bad. Karl Urban is lovely as usual. always enjoy seeing him in a movie. seeing Leonard Nimoy was bloody awesome. had a Star Wars deja vu moment when Kirk hit his head entering the transport lol. Scotty's rock friend was cute; i just want to pet him. the people i went with were complaining about how they couldn't predict the sun going nova in the far future when they were so technologically advanced.

saw Cloverfield last night and was glad i didn't spend money seeing it in theatres.

Saw it last night and yes, despite my reservations, I LOVED it!

Karl Urban was definitely channeling Deforrest Kelly in his role. Loved his 'Dammit, Jim!' line every time he shot Kirk full of something with his hypo.."Green Blooded Hobgoblin!' LOL!

Spock/Uhura? WOWOWOW! Now the scene where she complains about her initial posting to 'Farragut' made sense. i see many a fic on how they met coming...

The Enterprise itself...hmmm....it didn't really get me going too much...but I guess it couldn't look too much like past ships.

Ok, I do have some nitpicks:

1) If Uhura had heard that distress call about the Klingons fighting the Romulan ship (which she told Kayla when Kirk was under the bed) why didn't she tell Pike? She even apologized about it when Kirk was looking for reasons to stop Enterprise. That just seemed like a serious lack of protocol or basic orders. Withholding of info like that is almost criminal.

2) The 'air drop' scene. Loved it, sounded cool...but, if they were attacking the mining thingy...why the hell didn't they have ANY heavy weapons? Heck, even hand phasers would've helped. The other guy died with the charges and Sulu only had a sword?? No one else thought to maybe bring a phaser rifle?

3) WTF happened to Starfleet while Nero's ship hovered over the Earth? Why didn't they attack? What happened to the planetary defenses? I know Nero got some 'subpace coordinates' *insert more techno-babble* from Pike but I was hoping to see a lot of Starfleet committed to a big defense.

I know there're more nitpicks, but that's about it.

Overall, great movie but I did notice some things that glared out.

Yes, it was a very good movie, great casting choices. Science fiction aspect of it all? Not so much. Giant tentacle drill to make holes into planets to drop black holes to? Why not just drop the effin' black hole on top of the planet? *shakes head*

Perhaps it's all explained through Romulans simply being morons. At least they seemed to be very intellectually challenged in the movie.

Dude! I was hoping you were going to post about this film. I've never seen a Star Trek before, so all my knowledge of the franchise comes from Futurama and Simpsons references to it. I probably wouldn't have seen it otherwise, but some friends were going and roped me in, and I actually loved it!

I can't say how the characters compare to their TV counterparts, obviously ... well apart from the Shatman, everyone knows him. But I really liked that you got a sense of what each person was like. Everyone had a role to play, they each did something that was important to the plot, and had their moment of awesome. It’s not always easy to pull that off with an ensemble cast.

I thought Chris Pine was fine, though I didn't like him as much as you. Was it just me, or did it seem like he spent half his screen time clinging to a ledge or getting smacked in the face? LOLZ. I thought that Spock stole the show, though. I’ve never heard of the actor before, but he did a good job. And yeah ... extremely attractive. What's weird, though, is that the actor himself is normally kind of meh, he's really only attractive as Spock ... at least to me. ~*~let the fangirling begin~*~

The others ... Karl "Caesar" Urban is always pretty lolzy to me, and I really liked him in this. His & Kirk's friendship was cool. They are my slash couple of choice ... I know that Kirk/Spock basically invented fan fiction, but I like the idea of Kirk & Spock being platonic BFFs, and I thought that Kirk/McCoy was where the chemistry was. McCoy is there to ‘heal him’ any time, if you know what I mean. Plus, Uhura/Spock was rad. I really liked that Uhura went out with Spock instead of meathead jocky Kirk. It's nice to see a scenario where it's the geeky one getting the girl. Team Nerd forever!

Definitely heaps of fun to watch. There were heaps of things that were (I assume) nods to the original series but that I didn't get (some catchphrases, the rock man, the fencing line, etc). And yeah, there were plot holes big enough to drive trucks through. But I was having too much fun to care a lot. So yep, count this newbie as a converted Star Trek fan. :-)

It seems like I feel like commenting on some of your reviews, so don't be surprised if you see more of my comments.

Speaking as someone who's a non Trekker (Next Generations was the only series I liked), but I was amazed by this film.

The cast was amazing. Not a single character I would've taken out. I don't know if Bruce Greenwood's Cpt Pike was in the original series or not, but it was good seeing a character I wasn't familiar with and liking him. By the time Leonard Nemoy appeared, I was applauding. And again this was coming from a non Trekkie. The film really built up to that moment very well. It was also refreshing to see that Nemoy was actually relevant to the plot instead of being an unnecessary cameo. Love his narrative voice too. Also don't be afraid to say you don't like Simon Pegg, because this was the first role where I thought he was actually funny. Needless to say I didn't like Hot Fuzz and absolutely hated Shaun of the Dead.

The story was very well thought out and loved how it payed respects to the original series. It was both a sequel and reboot at the same time.

The effects were amazing. It gave me that Starship Troopers feel where I actually wanted to join Starfleet. I was surprise the overall film only cost 140 mil considering how much films are more costly yet don't look half as good like Spiderman with it's 258 mil budget.

I also checked out IMdb and think I have answers to the questions concerning the Romulans. It says that they're a proud warrior race (so I guess they're white Klingons?) and this might explain somethings.

That would explain why the mining vessel had weapons due to the Romulans loving their weapons. It might also explain why they didn't launch a planet wide evacuation. See the first Superman film for an excellent example of a race that knew fully well their planet was in danger, but chose to stay and be morons due to pride.

I could even give a reasonable explanation why Neron drops the red matter in the planet's core rather than the surface. Remember both him and Spock time traveled when they went through that black hole. So if he dropped it on the surface there was the possibility the planet might have actually went through the black hole and survived. Neron clearly didn't want that, so he drops it in the center so the black hole can destroy the planet piece by piece.

Now I think it's only fair to nitpick some things.

First Anton Yelchin's accent bugged me. Again I'm not a Trekki so I'm not sure if that's how Checkov suppose to sound like, but it bothered me the same way Anton said "come with me if you want to live" in Terminator Salvation bothered me.

Second where the heck were the other starships when Neron attacking Earth? You think hearing someone is planning to destroy your planet would grab some attention.

Third I kind of agree with the people saying Kirk being made first officer felt kind of rushed. But just a bit because I think Pike making Kirk first officer was plausible enough.

Really that's it. Overall it gave me a science fiction feel that I hadn't felt in a long time.
