Fucking amazing!

First of all, Chris Pine is love.  Looking at pictures of him does nothing for me, but on screen as James T. Kirk I wanted him to take me around behind the middle school and get me pregnant.  Seriously, I know Kirk was a ladies man on the original series, but I never bought it with Shatner.  Chris Pine both brought the sexy, and made me believe that Kirk was a genius and worth everyone creaming themselves over him.  I would follow this James T. Kirk into battle.

Uhura/Spock, really amazing.  I didn't know they would be a couple in this film, but I fucking loved them.  Uhura is the best girlfriend ever, and Spock is so schmoopy.  I was so living vicariously through her as she comforted him in the turbolift after Winona Ryder Spock's mother died.  The face holding, the kisses, the hug ... epically romantic.

Speaking of Uhura, did anyone catch what her first name was?  I missed it both when Spock said it, and then when Kirk repeated it while asking if that was her first name.

Karl Urban rocked my panties as Bones.  I loved every single moment he was on screen.  Perfection.  Karl Urban makes flaring your nostrils sexy ya'll.  He's the male Megan Fox that way (only in the nostril flaring/hot sense, I know he's a far better thespian okay!)  Also, I like that we got an explanation of why McCoy was called "Bones".  Maybe they gave an explanation in the Original Series too, but because I wasn't even close to being born when that was on, I never knew where the nickname came from.

Sulu's folding sword was fucking amazing.  I want one of those.  "Fencing."  lol.  Not a lot of Sulu, but I liked what there was of him.

I've loved Anton Yelchin for a long time.  I have no idea what the first thing I saw him in was, but I've always liked the kid.  His Checkov was amazingly precious.  I don't want to hit it, I just want to cuddle it.  Seriously, so precious.  And smart!

Rachel Nichols, I saw you!  You were green!  I have to admit, the greeniosity did obscure her hotness a little, but Gaila was amazing for her one big scene.

Seeing Leonard Nemoy made me ridiculously happy.  Original!Spock you still hold a place in my heart.  But,  Zachary Quinto made a great Spock.  I really loved him in the role, he really was perfection.  Even boy!Spock was awesome.  Also, angry!Spock is disturbingly hot.  So is crouching!action Spock, and vulnerable!Spock ... just Spock in general rocked my socks.

Scotty was good times as well.  I don't always love Simon Pegg (sacriledge I know), but I loved him here.  Scotty yelling at the little rock man all the time cracked me up every time.  Ah, good comedy.

I'm sure there's more I could say, and I know that the movie wasn't perfect (Nero's revenge plan and his whole reason for concocting it were kind of stupid, very Dr. Evil), but overall the movie was just ace and I don't really feel the need to complain.  That was one of the most enjoyable film experiences I've had in a while.

I'm so happy that Trek is rebooted, and that so many non-Trekkies enjoyed the movie and are praising it.

Good job, JJ.  After Cloverfield I was kind of hating you hardcore, but between this and Fringe you've redeemed yourself.  Keep up the good work.

The way you feel about Kirk/Chris Pine is the same way I feel about Zachary Quinto/Spock! I mean I stopped watching *Heroes* because of Sylar and was kinda dreading seeing him as Spock but, dear lord, not only did he rock as Spock but I found him completely *hot*!

I feel this way about Spock/Quinto too. When I first heard he'd be playing Spock I was excited because Heroes hadn't started sucking yet. Then as I got increased frustrated with that show and Sylar, it was tainting my love of him as Spock. But the love is back and like ten times stronger now. He was perfection. Like I was actually jittering in my seat a moments with how awesome he was. Like the smackdown at the Vulcan Science Academy, I loved every scene with him and his mother, and when he materialized when his hand out but she wasn't there, and the way he kind of looked at the blank spot on the pad like he couldn't believe it ... awww, come here Spock I will comfort you (actually, I would if Uhura didn't already have the job, but she does and she's fucking amazing, so I'll just sit back and be dazzled by how much chemistry they have together)

Like you said - was it perfect? No. But great googly-moogly does it have me excited about Star Trek again! I'm ready for them to pull a Twilight and shoot the next bajillion sequels all in a row!

Not perfect, but really, really good. Even things like it being a huge sausage fest didn't bother me like it normally would have, because I LOVED all of the male characters, and would hit every one (hmm, maybe not Scotty, but I'd go out drinking with him). Also, they did beef up Uhura's part, and they made her pretty sassy so I forgive it. Uhura best be on an away mission and get to kick some ass in the sequel though, and she better have a uniform with pants for when she goes on the away missions!

I hope they do pull a Twilight and film them back to back, mostly for the selfish reason that I'd get more Trek sooner. The cast is going to explode, well, I think Pine is going to explode like crazy, Quinto is definitely set for a higher profile, and I hope that Hollywood finally starts playing attention to Zoe Saldana. I want her to be the new pretty go to black lady since Halle Berry is off being a mom. Cause right now it's like they are going to Beyonce for this shit, and I don't want to live a world like that!

Lol, I think what I loved is that Kirk, as an icon, has been the hero character archetype for decades, ie, the arrogant and studly man-whore. And yet here, Kirk's still the alpha-male that gets all the booty and yet it's SPOCK that gets the girl!

Had Uhura not been a linguistics guru EVERYONE WOULD HAVE DIED!!

And I just found out/realized that Zoe Saldana played Ana-Maria in Pirates of the Caribbean!!

Just saw it this morning and loved it. (I was a big fan of The Next Generation and have watched all but the last couple of Trek films.) The characters are what won me over: their camaraderie, the humor and, hells yeah, the Spock/Uhura pairing. I've become mildly obsessed with them, maybe because I've not seen Olivia and Natalia onscreen in a few days. Anyway, I liked this version of Trek reality and also am excited about the franchise again. Regarding Zoe Saldana, I agree she should get more attention, but she is Hispanic, born of Puerto Rican and Dominican parents.

They did a great job establishing the characters. I actually love these versions of the characters more than the originals in almost every case. And Spock/Uhura is pure win. Quinto and Saldana had chemistry coming out the butt.

I'm totally obsessed with Uhura/Spock right now too. They are too dreamy together.

Yeah, but when people look at her they see a black woman. It may not be one hundred perecent accurate (or fair), but today (like in the past) if you look black you're considered black. I mean, I compared her to Halle who is half-white, but she is considered a 'black' actress.

Also, if Zoe's father isn't black Domincan I will eat a shoe, because she doesn't even really look all that mixed. Like I've got relatives Cuba (like going on 80 years now), but they're still black, they're just black Cubans, of which there are a lot, just like black Domincans.

Sorry, not to belabor the point but I just found this quote from Zoe which I think addresses her feeling on the issue of black/hispanic:

No need to apologize for 'belaboring the point.' And the translations were appreciated but not necessary as I'm Puerto Rican myself (Nuyorican actually) and speak Spanish fluently. I don't think she answered the question, but I must say that her attitude/outlook is unusual in my experience, as most of the dark-skinned Puerto Ricans (especially) and Dominicans I've met in New York and Puerto Rico take great pains to refute that they are black. To many black is synonymous with African American. So yeah, the tendency is to say dark-skinned Latina (Dominican/Puerto Rican/etc.). But if she wants to call herself black, more power to her. I think, however, that my black classmates from high school in West Harlem might laugh.
