TWILIGHT FRIDAY!
So, I just got back from Twilight, and I've gotta say ... it was nowhere near as terrible as I thought it would be. Dare I say it, based on the source material (which is gawd awful) this was probably the best movie they could have made.
To begin with, let me preface this by saying that I was both drunk and high when I went into this movie and was therefore in a very forgiving mood for the entire thing. That being said, let's movie on...
First I gotta say, with the exception of the running scenes, the movie was filmed beautifully. Catherine Hardwick might be a strange elvish looking creeper, but she's a pretty good director. There were some shots and scenes that were absolutely stunning to look at. Pretty much every scene with the Nomads was pretty badass (especially the one at the docks), and the baseball scene with the Cullens was awesome. I really enjoyed it. Alice's pitching motion was classic. I loved the leg. You could totally tell that Ashley Greene had like never thrown a ball in her life before this, but the leg was pure Alice.
Loved the first shots of the Cullens. Emmett dazzled. Rose ... well, the less said the better. And Alice was super adorable (as she should be). Also, FUCK YOU JESSICA! Alice is not weird, she's magical and enchanting and your pea brain is too limited to comprehend her amazingness!!!
KStew was alright as Bella. She was far better than I thought she would be from the trailer's but she wasn't a revelation or anything. There were a couple of shining moments, but for the most part she was just competent (and occasionally very, very pretty).
RPattz was good as Edward. Stephenie Meyer is on crack with her Oscar nomination predictions, but RPattz was really good. I still don't like Edward at all, but I was interested/fascinated by him in the movie. Pattinson really played him as being a creepy, maladjusted, and just a general self-hating creeper. Which is basically how I picture Edward. I loved that he literally looked like he was in serious physical pain almost every time he was on screen. It was a really good performance. RPattz is dreamy (again, Edward's a weird creeper, but RPattz is dreamy)
Bella/Edward remain brutal. Edward is a complete dick to her for most of the beginning of the movie and then suddenly they are in love. It makes no sense ... just like it made no sense in the books. I mean RPattz is goodlooking, but Edward is so fucking creepy and RUDE, and Bella's like just head over heels. I have no idea what those two could possibly talk about while they are alone (I don't think the screen writer did either because they had like no dialogue when they weren't being melodramatic.) Like can you picture the two of them talking about the latest episode of ANTM or something? UGH, Edward/Bella is so ridiculous and infuriating.
ALICE ... wasn't on screen enough. There needed to be FAR MOAR Alice. There wasn't enough screen time with Bella for my liking either, but then again Alice didn't really have that much to do in the first book. Plus, I have to say that I think Ashley Greene milked just about every bit of ghey out of the role as she could have. Before she even spoke she was constantly watching Bella, and she even got a "I'll protect Bella" in there before she wrapped her arm possesively around Bella and walked her to the car.
I also loved that Alice was the first of the Cullen's to run to Bella in the Ballet Studio. The way she rubbed her fingers through Bella's blood and then like smelled them slowly before gazing at Bella completely intoxicated and longing was AWESOME. Nice acting moment from Ashley (and once again bringing the gay) There was a part where she was like leaning over Bella, just like ravenous for her and my Bellice Shipper heart was so happy.
Also, Alice leaping onto James and like ripping his head off was GREAT. So fucking fierce.
I also loved Emmett. He was perfect, and Kellan was awesome. But again, there wasn't enough Emmett. One of the funniest exchanges:
Rose: Are we even sure she's Italian?
Emmett: Her name IS Bella.
lol, oh Emmett.
Carlisle had one of the best intros ever. What a sauve motherfucker. He totally did look like an old timey movie star.
Jasper looked constipated like the enter time he was on screen (except for the baseball scene where he was sex on a stick. In the baseball scene when he flipped the the bat around like a fucking pimp, I was like, "aiight, okay, I can see why Alice is fucking you." It was hot.) But mostly ... mostly he looked constipated.
Esme had like three lines. It's ridiculous. Esbeth had like nothing to do, and her baseball hat looked funny. The soccer!mom arm was pretty sweet though.
THE NOMADS! They were love. Especially Victoria. Victoria rocked my pants. *reaches up, catches baseball* "I'm the one with the wicked curveball" UNF! UNF! UNF!
She was FIERCE as HALE! Her last scene FTW. It was great. I can't wait to see more of Rachelle in New Moon (I hope they beef up Victoria's part in that, because Rachelle is wicked). Cam was like and cocky and creepy as James. James playing with Bella in the ballet studio was wicked, and I couldn't help but wish that we had seen more vampires being scary and awesome because that scene rocked.
Edward sparkling was painful. I mean, I knew it would be bad, but seeing it was just ... *is without words*
Nikki Reed was utterly and completely miscast as Rosalie. Utterly and completely. She was just not Rose at all. I mean, she was bitchy and everything, but my brain just wouldn't accept her as Rose.
My dream Rose
Another good choice for Rose
Would have been the most perfect Rose ever (five years ago)
Is Unfortunately a Model and therefore couldn't be cast, but visually is an awesome Rose
The music was great. I really liked the music.
And the end sequence was great (the one that played as the credits rolled). In fact that was one of my favorite parts.
In conclusion ... it was alright. By no means the best movie ever, but for someone with a passing interest in the books/characters it was good enough (if you have no attachment to any of the characters then the movie will probably bore you to tears. To tears.).
The middle part where it's just like endless Edward/Bella scenes is brutal (just like in the book). My friend fell asleep during that part, and I was like composing the next chapters of The Edge in my mind, because it was so mindnumbingly tedious) The baseball game and then the Nomads showing up was the only thing that jump started by brain again. But ... yeah, I can't really see how they would have made the movie any better without completely changing it from the book (which I actually would have been in favor of, because I feel like without SMeyer's horrible writing and plotting there would have been a good story in this premise).
P.S. Moar Alice, Emmett and Victoria.

Good for you. I think that's the only way to see this movie.
I can safely say I've never read any of the books and haven't seen the movie yet. Only out of sheer morbid curiosity (and much kicking and screaming) would I, if only to see what all the fuss is about. I'm kinda scared to though...

I highly recommend it. I think it's what helped me maintain my sanity.

If you want to satisfy a sick curiosity, seeing the movie is definitely the way to go. It was very accurate to the books, but it will take up much less of your time than the book would. Just prepare yourself was awful going in, and think of some life lessons to ponder in the middle of the movie when the endless Edward/Bella will make you want to curl up into a fetal ball and cry.

Hmmm, so good idea if it's late at night, I can't sleep, there's nothing else on tv, and it's free on the movie channel?

When it does come out ... good luck! I hope you are very inebriated when you step in the theater :D
I saw it this afternoon and-
Stephenie Meyer is on crack with her Oscar nomination predictions, but RPattz was really good.
SERIOUSLY!?! Is she on crack?! WTF? The only times I could see the character 'Edward' and not a horrible actor doing over-the-top emoting was when he was being a cocky sonofabitch. I chalk your assesment up to being high/drunk but she's fucking kidding herself, right?! His "omg, she smells so good. i wanna jump/hump/kill her" face was stupid and semi-reminiscent of the ol' soap opera "smelling the fart" pause. And something that made me laugh out loud so much that the dozen people in the theater with me thought I was unstable was that damn "bella's dying in the ballet studio and I need to not kill her while I suck out the venom" face, WHICH WAS AWFUL. And soooo reminiscent of that creepy 'Thin Man' guy from Charlie's Angels when he smells the hair. *shudders*
I have so much more to say but I feel like whomever might comment on your review might get pissed if I just sit and rag so I'll post my full thoughts on it later today. :)
Re: I saw it this afternoon and-
Despite the drunk/highness I think I actually did like the performance. There were some lulzy facial expressions throughout, but given what he had to work with I thought he was pretty good. I kind of liked how awkward and creepy, and non-blinking and weirdly intense he was.

I don't think anyone around here will tar and feather you for hating the movie/characters, I think we all do (a lot), lol. But I make sure to keep an eye out for your review.

Victoria, indeed, was much moar UNF!-worthy than expected. I hated her in the books, but...jeez.
no subject
THIS!
I could see why they left out the 'Alice picking Bella up and running with her' part because it would look funny on screen. But I was pissed they cut out the scene in the hotel in Phoenix.
Did you catch the part after Alice wrapped her arm around Bella and said "I'll protect Bella", Edward said "Keep your thoughts to yourself"?? I was like "OMFGWTFBBQHAXSEXMOAR??"
I did catch that, and I thought THE SAME THING! I was like, Edward's been picking up on Alice's smexy thoughts about Bells. Alice looked kind of chagrined too, and I love that she still wrapped her arm around Bella despite that.
I'm glad that we got to see Alice tending to Bella in the ballet studio, and the sniffing of Bella's blood was a great moment (and totally enables a subtextual reading of it)
Victoria, indeed, was much moar UNF!-worthy than expected. I hated her in the books, but...jeez.
Yeah, she was kind of 'meh' in the books. But Rachelle really brought her to life. She was just so wild and feral. I loved it. Her woman scorned look and walk of 'bitch you DEAD" at the end was so much win. UNF! There definitely needs to be moar Victoria in the next movie (the fact that they added more of her in this one makes me hopeful there will be)

I kinda really wanna see it now.

I can't tell you not to satisfy your curiosity though. Plus, Alice is motion is breathtaking.

*wishes I had the foresight to think of this* b/c the screaming, the fan screaming was so damn loud.
Anyway, the movie wasn't as bad as I'd expected either, even though there were a lot of cringe-worthy Bella/Edward lines. Thank God, RPatzz and KStew both hate their characters or at least the book dialogue though, b/c I think it could have been waaay worse.
There was a part where she was like leaning over Bella, just like ravenous for her and my Bellice Shipper heart was so happy.
Same here, and that whole blood smelling shot was so hot. I wanted more Alice though. They cut out the whole hotel bed conversation. :( If they make New Moon, they better leave Alice's return the fuck alone.
In the baseball scene when he flipped the the bat around like a fucking pimp, I was like, "aiight, okay, I can see why Alice is fucking you." It was hot.
THIS.
I can't wait to see more of Rachelle in New Moon (I hope they beef up Victoria's part in that, because Rachelle is wicked).
I think she was cast perfectly for the role. Srsly, she was UHMAZING.
no subject
lol, it definitely helped. I have to say the audience I saw it with was pretty calm. No screaming or anything. I think seeing a 10:50 show was a good idea because it mostly 20 + people in the theater.
the movie wasn't as bad as I'd expected either, even though there were a lot of cringe-worthy Bella/Edward lines.
This. The Edward/Bella stuff was the weakest part of the movie, but then again it was the weakest part of the book too. This movie just really made me wish again that Meyer wasn't such a fucking Bella/Edward fangirl and had actually given her book a fucking plot and then given some attention to that plot. There should have been WAY more Nomads and much more of the other Cullens.
Thank God, RPatzz and KStew both hate their characters or at least the book dialogue though, b/c I think it could have been waaay worse.
This. I really liked how fucked up RPattz made Edward. Like Edward was a total creeper as he should have been (as well as an emo, self-loathing overly dramatic a-hole, as Edward should be). I felt so embarrassed for KStew in that scene in the hospital in Phoenix when she was like "you can never leave me". She looked so chagrined, like "the things I'll do for money", lol.
that whole blood smelling shot was so hot.
It was great. I am very pleased with how much gay Ashley brought.
I wanted more Alice though. They cut out the whole hotel bed conversation. :( If they make New Moon, they better leave Alice's return the fuck alone.
This. I enjoyed the extra scenes they added with Alice at the ballet studio though, so I kind of forgive them for the hotel scene. But they better include every single fucking second of Alice in New Moon or I will be livid (and they better leave the Bella sitting in Alice's lap in, THEY SO BETTER!) Even more, add some more freaking Alice into the movie.
I think she was cast perfectly for the role. Srsly, she was UHMAZING.
ITA. She was great. She was a very pleasant surprise in this movie. And that last scene actually made me really want New Moon like now. MOAR VICTORIA!
no subject
Looks like she plans on bringing more of it in New Moon, b/c she's talking about Bella here, I've decided.
no subject
Seriously, y so awesome Ashley? She's totally talking about Bella. She could only be talking about Bella.
Also, I love how she's like "I'm going to create a love triangle in the second one", gurl who you kidding? You already created the love triangle in this one. Bella just doesn't know who much she falling for you yet.
Jacksper cracked me up too, with his delayed reaction "Whaaaat?" and then Ashley being like "I'm kidding, I'm kidding". She's not kidding Jacksper, she's just trying to placate. Bellice will eclipse Jalice in New Moon, you shall soon see.
Also, they are both ridiculously pretty. And while Bella/Alice rule fictional land, I totally ship Ashley/Jackson IRL, along with NikkiStew. They can be Aackson 4evah!
no subject
cuz just no *shakes head* i tried i really did try to give it a fair chance
i honestly just zoned out for most of the movie and waited for Alice to come around because i mean really
Ashley Greene owned Alice with those few scenes she had and SHE TOTALLY BROUGHT THE GAYNESS OUT IN THE BEST WAY...with what she was allowed
and i wanted to push jessica off a cliff- i never hated her THAT much in the book
and i agree pretty much word for word on your assesment of Jasper!
as for the plotting of the Edge
HELLZ YEA! I CANT WAIT!!!!!:D
no subject
She really did. Like I feel like Ashley had to really TRY to make Alice seem that gay, and I really love her for that. She was constantly eyesexing Bella, and that first real meeting at the house, it was like, "Damn girl, keep it in your skirt", lol. Even Edward was like "ALICE! MUST YOU TRY TO SEDUCE MY GIRLFRIEND RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME? Please, leave the bedroom eyes for when I'm not around!" I'm definitely looking forward to the New Moon movie, because what Ashley will be able to do with the gay in that book will be mesmerizing.
i wanted to push jessica off a cliff- i never hated her THAT much in the book
Other than when she called Alice weird, Jessica didn't bug me too much. I think it's cause we got less of her here than in the books. The Forks High kids were just ... I just didn't know what to make of them. They were so goofy. "Hey Arizona. How you likin' da rain?" LOL Honestly though, Mike, Eric or Tyler would have been a way more awesome boyfriend than Edward. Like I could picture hanging out and laughing with those guys. Edward just ... ugh.
Still there were things that I liked about the movie. But let's blame that on the pot and wine so that you don't think less of me, lol
Next chapter of The Edge should be up soon.
no subject
oh New Moon im hoping will be better cuz so much more Alice!- well a bit more anyway.
I guess youre right about the Jessica/all the Forks High kids- they just were around so little that they fit too much of them when they did in a bad way
hahahaha i wont think less of you for your opinions-to each their own right?!
i cant wait for more of The Edge YAY!
no subject
Oh, I know. Alice sounded so dreamy and smitten when she said that, and the way she was eyeing Bella ... UNF! That's why Bella's kind of wide-eyed 'what the fuck is up with this chick?' cracked me up, because Alice was flirting with her hardcore. Bella will soon come to love the eyesexin' though.
New Moon im hoping will be better cuz so much more Alice!- well a bit more anyway.
Yeah, I doubt we'll see THAT much for of her *punches SMeyer in the crotch* but we'll see a bit more, and what we see of her will be very Bella intensive (the snuggling at Charlie's, the snuggling on the plane - they better keep in her offer to turn Bella - plus all of the Volturi stuff).
It's gonna be tough going through the middle of the book without random glimpses of Alice to keep me going though.
no subject
so theres this kid in my film class who is oddly into the Twilight series (and my friend has decided this guy has a thing for me) he sat next to me and kept going on about how GREAT the movie was and me and this girl sitting on the other side just pointed to where he usually sat and were like 'ok no, just go sit over there, we banish you'
and good for you and the punching of SMeyer in the croth!
plus i cant wait to see Alice with her 911~!!! that is- as long as they dont cut it!

And I don't want to be attacked by a bunch of 12-year-old girls.
I'm mostly worried about that last part.
I need what little street cred I have.
:(

I was kind of worried about this too, and there were some uncontrollable laughing fits, and a few loud comments from my friends. But we weren't close to being the biggest assholes in the theater and I don't think you would be either. Probably about a third of the people going to see this movie are there to make fun of it. So, don't let this stop you from getting trashed.
And I don't want to be attacked by a bunch of 12-year-old girls.
Go to a show after ten pm and it'll most be 20 plus people (who are there to make fun of the movie)

I totally get this, and feel your pain. I am the anti-street cred, but I really want some *le sigh*

also, I agree with making olivia wilde someone in the movie
anyone
I think she could walk into any audition, demand any role (girl, boy, possibly even 20 foot tall supergoddess) and use her incrediblely (unbelievably) good looks to land the role no questions asked
and if there were questions asked, people would be beaten into comas for their stupidity because DOY she is TEH HOTNESS TO ZE MAX, YO
good god I need my house fix, stat *shakes head*
what is this sparkling you are on about and why does it worry me?
I do wish I could sneak in just for the bits with alice but alas, my super secret awesome ninja of doom hat is being dry cleaned *sigh*

lol
also, I agree with making olivia wilde someone in the movie
This would have been great, but also infuriating since most of the cast got like no screen time. It's like when people were suggesting Eva Green for Esme. It's like in theory that would have been cool as hell, but in reality it would have pissed me off because Esme was on screen for like 2 mins., and I need more Eva than that. I would have needed more Olivia than the movie would have given me.
what is this sparkling you are on about and why does it worry me?
It Stephenie Meyer land, vampires sparkle in the sunlight (like a bunch of tiny little diamonds), so they avoid it. It's just as stupid as it sounds. She basically just made up her own ridiculous vampire mythology that makes no sense.
no subject
just shove her in a different outfit each time and change the script to say that all the chars she plays are suddenly identical twins or triplets or quadruplets etc
wtf?
bursting into flames is a reason to avoid sunlight - sparkling like you're covered in rhinstones isn't
so what if it probably makes the vamps look gay? it's not going to hurt them so deal with it - they might get a vegas show for it, right on the strip
how do youkill a vamp in her lore, anyway? I checked wiki and it was suprisingly useless
no subject
I have to say that I think Ashley Greene milked just about every bit of ghey out of the role as she could have.
FOR REAL. I think about every scene she was in there at least one smouldering look thrown in Bella's direction... and that's a lot of looks when you add it all up.
ALICE IS THE SHIT.
no subject
My heart goes out to you.
And honestly I was expecting muuuch worse. But then most of my enjoyment came from listening to other people say things like "stalker!" and "just fuck her already!" while adding my own comments :D
Oh my goodness, thank god, another person who thinks it could have been much worse! yay! I mean, honestly there were some unbearably awful parts of it, but there were also some parts I actually liked (most of which were added to the movie and not in the book, ex. the Victoria/Rose face-off in the baseball scene, Alice ripping James head off, Alice sniffing Bella's blood like it was crack, the Nomads at the dock, Victoria running barefoot through the forest, and especially Victoria's last scene in the movie).
The audience comments also made it pretty fun. This was one movie where I didn't mind people yelling things out at all.
I think about every scene she was in there at least one smouldering look thrown in Bella's direction... and that's a lot of looks when you add it all up.
Oh, yeah. The longing gazing from across the parking lot were hot as hale. And I felt so bad for Alice when Edward cockblocked her by the bus. Alice was all like "Yay, quality Bella time on the bus. I can probably get her to snuggle" and Edward totally SMeyer'd her. Then the wrapping the arm around Bella's waist, and pretty much every action in the ballet studio.
Alice is the shit and Ashley Greene is rockstar. I can't wait to see the amount of gay she brings to the table in New Moon. It will be epic.
no subject
Yeah, as a movie it isn't bad. Stunning scenery shots + good music made my muse quite happy. And I liked the detective!Bella sequence, that was done well.

This.
I literally jumped out of my seat when Alice ripped off James' head. That was bad ass.
And I felt so bad for Alice when Edward cockblocked her by the bus.
Oh I did too! Her little look of disappointment killed me. D: Don't worry Alice, you'll have your chance soon!
no subject
This! OMG this! I thought it was shot beautifully! Like the scene where the fan blows Bella's scent towards Edward was so well shot. That scene should have been cheesy as hell, but somehow it was kind of awesome.
And the music was fantastic.
I also really liked the detective!Bella scene, and her dream sequence with Edward as an old timey vampire was great.
I literally jumped out of my seat when Alice ripped off James' head. That was bad ass.
I know. I was so excited by that. I let out an "Aliiiiiiice!!" thank goodness other people in the theater approved of that too. The way she scrambled up his body just slayed me. Such a sexy little spidermonkey!
Her little look of disappointment killed me.
lol! She was so happy, and then cockblockage. Poor bb.
Don't worry Alice, you'll have your chance soon!
Yes. Soon the cockblockee will become the cockblocker!

Still I don't know if that it's a good or bad thing if I want to risk myself on watching the movie lol So far I only had read two reviews in my flist. Yours is one of them and the other one didn't like the movie at all.
Your KS comment made me lol because yeah,in the trailer her acting looks pretty awful indeed. And she isn't that bad. At least for the Panic Room and Zatura (Zakura? whatever). Though in that one her character was frozen half of the movie so hnmm, better not taking that one like an example.
Anyway,I think that I'm going to wait for the DVD or something. Still I'm too annoyed by how superexposed Twilight it's at the moment specially around here. The only thing that I'm looking foward about that fandom it's your Alice/Bella fic, because your fics rocks!:)

Here's (http://escritoireazul.livejournal.com/246125.html?style=mine) another one that mostly favorable. Well, favorable like mine in that there are tons of lulz moments and the 'they pretty much did the best they could' sense.
Your KS comment made me lol because yeah,in the trailer her acting looks pretty awful indeed.
Honestly, I think it's the role of Bella that's making KStew look so sucky. I think that she probably couldn't relate to the character at all, and didn't like the character at all. I just saw a trailer for "Adventureland" her new movie, and I was shocked because she was like smiling and displaying human emotions and shit. I was like, if she'd played Bella like she played the character in that trailer I might have liked Bella (then again, the way Bella was written wouldn't have allowed for that)

You'll miss the audience interaction, but gain the ability to bypass Edward/Bella scenes. That ability to FF will be invaluable.

Aww, thanks bb!

I totally agree with your assessment of Jasper. Ashley Greene as Alice was totally love. I loved the baseball part, and the whole protector thing, and the part in the ballet studio.
Guess I'll actually have to read the Twilight book to see what this hotel scene and New Moon thing is.

lol. I kind of want to tell people to see it in the theater, because the audience reactions were like half the fun.
Ashley Greene as Alice was totally love.
She was perfection. She needed to be on screen more.
I loved the baseball part, and the whole protector thing, and the part in the ballet studio.
Her leg going up delicately as she pitched made me want to hug her forever. The protector thing was just incredible sweet and sexy. And the ballet studio with the concern, and then the raw lust, and the trying to battle the raw lust to take care of Bella ... awwww! Y so awesome, Alice?
Guess I'll actually have to read the Twilight book to see what this hotel scene and New Moon thing is.
I'd say, just go into a book store, hide where someone can't see you and read the hotel scene in Twilight. It's not that long, but then you won't have to read the book. The movie was very accurate to the book so you won't really miss anything.
New Moon is much more tolerable than Twilight though, so you'll probably be able to get through that. Plus there's lots of Alice/Bella deliciousness (though you have to read through about 2/3rds of the book before the good Bellice scenes).
New Moon is not a good book though, so prepare for frustration. Just keep Bella/Alice in mind and you should be able to get through it!
