Fairly decent episode, mostly due to strong supporting players this time around. But of course because it's PKJ there were things that I strongly hated as well.

The Good:

1. The FoTW was pretty good this episode. Meghan Ory was really good as Wanda. Was she chewing the scenery a bit at the beginning? Yes. But she totally needed to. Wanda's gleeful bitchery entertained me from the moment she showed up on screen. "Sebastian designs for girls with single digit BMI's. You're just to healthy *double kiss*" Oh, Wanda. Plus she totally brought the subtext with Jane, and despite how evil her character was she made me feel some sympathy for her, and kind of wanted to ship her and Jane even though it's totally messed up (whatevah, whatevah, someone should have told Loken not to kiss back!)

Jane: You're a MONSTER!
Wanda: No. Darling. *pause* I'm a model!

Ory actually made that line kickass. And having just typed it and seeing how horrible it is on paper (well, screen I guess) I'm even more impressed by how her delivery rocked it.

Plus, I'll love Wanda forever for the following exchange.

Wanda: (gently petting Jane's as she leans over her while Jane is tied to the bed) I can make this arrangement very nice for you. Clothes, money, jewelery (caresses Jane's face)... anything you want. (Runs fingers between Jane's breasts) Like I said, in time you can get used to anything you want, and excuse the ways in which you get them.

Jane: (staring into Wanda's eyes) Alright. Uncuff me. (Lips pouting suggestively) And let me show you what I can give you.

Wanda: (licks her lips)

Really it says something about this show that I liked Wanda more than pretty much all of the main cast, and would rather ship with a narsicisstic, vampiric killer than any of the main characters.

2. Jane actually showed an interest in her powers and what it means for her. For someone who just discovered she has superpowers Jane has been awfully apathetic towards investigating possibilities, and downright idiotic to not have made a stronger connection between the people she's investigating and herself. She redeemed herself a little this episode by actively testing her abilities, and telling Mohinder to stick it when he was all like "we don't know for SURE" about her being a neuro.

3. I liked the title. Though it would have been better if they'd actually named the character Lauren Gray instead of Wanda (which makes me think of the Scarlet Witch ... who is cool)

The Bad:

1. Kristanna Loken looks like this:

You cannot, I repeat, you CANNOT, have her going on about how she's so monstrous looking that she can't believe anyone would date her, and have her stop making out with someone so that she can ask them if she looks fat. She's Kristanna fucking Loken, she's a goddamn Norwegian goddess, you even had characters talk about her timeless fucking good looks later in the episode. It'd be like hiring Monica Bellucci, Famke Janssen, Jessica Alba and Halle Berry for those "true colours" Dove commercials. It's infuriating! UGH!

2. Again McBride is worst leader ever. He's told that all of the victims of the neuro have been female, Jane has already been attacked by the neuro and his brilliant idea is to send JANE and MAUREEN the two FEMALES on the team, one of whom has already been ATTACKED to interview the suspects? Why someone's likely to get drugged, kidnapped, tied to a bed and sexually molested with a plan like that! Good thing that didn't happ .... oh wait. I mean what if Model Mentor had been the neuro, Maureen would have been dead. How hard would it have been for McBride leave his fucking ivory tower and interview one of the suspects himself. Seriously, if he did one himself and had Connor do the other it would have taken like an extra hour-hour and a half. Loser.

3. Why bring Amanda back for that? Seriously, I would have rather we'd never heard from the character again then have her brought back just to be randomly killed. I mean we learn in the episode that Jane has become kind of a big sister to her, that they've gotten close enough that Amanda has a key to Jane's apartment, so obviously there is a significant friendship there to be explored and then they just kill her off? Her death served no purpose ... oh, that's right Jane used the pain from the news to stop her hand from healing. It's totally worth it then! They should of just had Jane wonder if she was fat some more and left Amanda alone!

3. Jane went to interview Wanda at her apartment. Jane doesn't check in after a few hours. So, Team McBride decides to call Wanda's apartment and bust into Jane's with guns out? WHAAAA? I know that afterwards they checked out Wanda's penthouse, but really that should have been the first stop. Maybe it's petty, but that really bothered me.

..despite how evil her character was she made me feel some sympathy for her

I know. Wanda was basically an evil Rogue and I wish they'd made an effort to touch on that. Because how much would it suck to know your kiss can kill people. And then she finds someone who doesn't die from her touch? I liked the scene, but I wish they'd made it a little more than Wanda wanting to remain young and bit more about not wanting to be alone.

You cannot, I repeat, you CANNOT, have her going on about how she's so monstrous looking that she can't believe anyone would date her, and have her stop making out with someone so that she can ask them if she looks fat.

OMG, totally. If you want us to believe Jane's insecure about her looks, maybe you know, you shouldn't bring it up *ten* episodes into the season.

Jane has already been attacked by the neuro and his brilliant idea is to send JANE and MAUREEN the two FEMALES on the team, one of whom has already been ATTACKED to interview the suspects?

Not only that, but then two seconds later we see McBride and Connor undercover as security guards!?! Wtf? I hope this means when there's a neuro out there killing gay prostitutes McBride and Connor are going undercover as male strippers. Because, you know, it's not like Riley totally couldn't go over the security footage from previous runway shows to see who interacted with the victims.

See, the show is so inept that it wasn't even clear if she had control of her powers or not. I thought that she could control who she took youth from, especially with the way they were focusing on Jane learning that her ability to heal was mental, I just assumed that Wanda got control of her powers after that first time.

I totally like the idea of fighting lonliness though and agree they missed an opportunity there. I mean, even if she could control her powers, we were told she has no real friends other than that old guy who'll be dying off soon, she can't share her secret with anyone, and she'll outlive anyone she actually likes ... except possibly Jane. And Jane was wondering about whether she would age normally or not earlier on in the episode, so she and Wanda could have bonded over that point.

Also, at the end we saw Wanda's mind inflict injuries onto her body, a reverse of what we see Jane do, it would have nice if someone had been like "wait, could Jane's mind actually kill her as well as heal her?" I mean, it's really dark but like if Jane started feeling guilty for always surviving when others died, and want to like hurt herself as penance or something she could potentially cut herself with a thought.

OMG, totally. If you want us to believe Jane's insecure about her looks, maybe you know, you shouldn't bring it up *ten* episodes into the season.

So true. The thing is I don't even think that Jane really has a problem with her looks, I mean we've seen her use them to her advantage before. This was just a case of the writers pulling something out of their ass for the episode (not even the episode, just the opening since everyone went back to talking about how hot Jane was later on), and it was totally unnecessary because other characters (Arlene and Wanda) voiced everything that Jane was muttering about, only it made sense coming from them and was nonsensical coming from her.

Not only that, but then two seconds later we see McBride and Connor undercover as security guards!?!

They actually sent Jane and Maureen to interview the suspects AFTER Jane was attacked at the the fashion show while Connor and McBride were supposed to be looking out for them. Then they sent Jane and Mo to interview 2 of the 3 potential killers without a partner, giving the killer a perfect opportunity to kill them. Brilliant!

Because, you know, it's not like Riley totally couldn't go over the security footage from previous runway shows to see who interacted with the victims.

I know. If they didn't want us to think this was an option, then they shouldn't have showed us the footage taken from Jane and Mo's show. Especially since McBride said the feed was from security cameras and not some cameras that they had rigged up.

I hope this means when there's a neuro out there killing gay prostitutes McBride and Connor are going undercover as male strippers.

I'm pretty sure I would rather see this episode then the one next week when Jane and Connor make out. *shudder*

Finally, the model episode! While not quite as good as I'd hoped... I still enjoyed it in a weird, dirty way. And, come on, it was a huge subtexty step up from last week's Connor lovefest.

Jane: You're a MONSTER!
Wanda: No. Darling. *pause* I'm a model!

Hee... I laughed and cringed at that exchange. The writing for this show so is just so awful. It makes "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" seem like Shakespeare.

I've got to give it to the actress, though, for making me like Wanda. She compelled as much as she repelled. (Like there's anyone here who wouldn't want to keep Jane chained to a bed for easy fondling and kissing access. Way to go, Wanda.)

Why bring Amanda back for that? Seriously, I would have rather we'd never heard from the character again then have her brought back just to be randomly killed.

I know! I mean, why bother? What a waste. Idiots. Bye Amanda, at least you've escaped the madness that is this show.

But, yeah, I liked this one overall... probably because bad tv is always made better by girls kissing.

This show has some sort of diabolical hold over me... so I just keep on with my mantra of "PKJ bad, Loken pretty"... and hope the shallow is worth it.

Amanda! NOOOOOO! At least that they owed us.

Every small ship is a good ship with this show. Hopefully the creators are slowly getting it. I mean, what else is possibly going to keep us watching, except for the love for the original comics or a wish to drool over the pretty moving pictures of our Norwegian goddess. Thanks for the illustrative photo, by the way.

psst, j. the PKJ comics have lots of femslashy subtext/text in them:

I already tried to hook her to the comics few weeks ago and she seemed to like them. I was going to upload at least the PKJ/Vampirella crossover, but kinda forgot about it.

BTW, since you are another comics fan, may I ask if you have the 3rd issue of the first volume from Dynamite? I have everything else, but that one I just can't find anywhere.

Hey, I'm on Demonoid too. *wave*

But this not the one I'm looking for. This one is from Event and not from Dynamite and I'm pretty sure the one I want is not anywhere on Demonoid or Z-cult. I can upload you the first two issues so you can see the vol. 1 really does exist, because the only place I've seen it mentioned on the net is the Wikipedia. *shrug* I'm not even sure it was scanned. Thanks, though.

I was worried it was going to suck at the beginning, but once Jane got to Wanda's apartment I really enjoyed the episode *wink* At first I thought all we'd get were kisses on the cheek, so when we got two evil full mouth kisses I was pleased. Wanda was also a much better villain than the show usually has, and Mentor Lady was hot, so overall I eventually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Hee... I laughed and cringed at that exchange. The writing for this show so is just so awful. It makes "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" seem like Shakespeare.

Yeah, I know. It's so horrible. The worst this episode had to be "for a model being forgotten is worse than death". I have to give it to the actresses who deliver these lines for giving it their all though. I thought Wanda pulled "I'm a model" off rather well, Mentor Lady's delivery delayed by cringe on the 'worse than death' line, and Loken's sneer on "you're a monster" was well done.

I've got to give it to the actress, though, for making me like Wanda. She compelled as much as she repelled. (Like there's anyone here who wouldn't want to keep Jane chained to a bed for easy fondling and kissing access. Way to go, Wanda.)

Yeah, Ory did a good job. I've seen her in things before and have been underwhelmed by her in the past (she's one of those Vancouver actresses that pops up in every show filmed there, like Dark Angel and Smallville, etc.) so I was very pleased by how good she was this episode.

Also, I totally sympathized with her wanting to keep Jane as a pet. I kind of wanted Jane to take her up on the offer, and they could just live in sexy luxury forever.

Bye Amanda, at least you've escaped the madness that is this show.

Yeah, now the actress can audition for Battlestar Galactica where the scripts won't make her cry with horror.

bad tv is always made better by girls kissing.

This quote should be immortalized on a t-shirt because it's soooo true. Honestly, the girl-kissing is the only reason that I liked this episode. When I think about it nothing really happened, and everyone was stupid, but there was girl kissing and that makes it alright by me.

This show has some sort of diabolical hold over me... so I just keep on with my mantra of "PKJ bad, Loken pretty"... and hope the shallow is worth it.

Sigh, I know. This show is shallow viewing at it's worst. But I'm going to continue watching ... because when it comes to Lokinator I'm shallow.

Amanda! NOOOOOO! At least that they owed us.

lol. Jane's teary eyed "You killed Amanda? YOU MONSTER!" was pretty good. It wasn't the same level of awesome as her "Maureen? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!", but it totally convinced me that Amanda used to sneak into her bedroom a lot at night, and would play undress-up with Jane quite often.

Every small ship is a good ship with this show.

Yeah, anything that makes the episodes somewhat bearable.

or a wish to drool over the pretty moving pictures of our Norwegian goddess. Thanks for the illustrative photo, by the way.

Seriously. Like the producers and Kristanna are lucky she's super pretty, because staring at her is the only reason like ANYONE is still watching this show.

Also, no problem. Searching through numerous photos of Loken for one to post was a tough job but ... ah, I'm not even gonna pretend. It was just fun!

That's it! *goes off to make a 'het is wrong' sign*
