oh boy.. been so long... eh there is always a ton of tension between them first off sometimes they're best friends, other times Serena is dating Blair stepbrother or something - the usual drama that comes with books like that (the ole' "Oh poor rich stoned me! boo hoo, I could buy whatever I want but throw a tantrum when I don't get my way on one insignificant thing!" is included in that)
their characters in the books are interesting, at least I haven't seen the pilot for the show or anything, but I'm not sure they could really capture the personalities exactly looked up pics of the actors in the show and even they don't match up with my mental image
I'm more a fan of books with a plot, so the gossip girls series seems to be the same thing ad nauseum in different ways, but if you can get through that go for it at least the first book is worth it, and the covers are hot - 'tis what led me to believe there could be slash in the first place
