So, I just got finished watching The Heart is Decietful Above All Things, which from now on will be known as the most depressing film I have ever seen in my life (seriously, I don't think that there was one ray of sunshine, one note of hope or anything even slightly redeeming about 95% of the characters in this movie). It was well made (go Asia Argento!) and well acted, but whoa I feel like I need to scrub my brain with industrial strength cleaner and a brillo pad after it.

So, interested in finding out if anyone's life could possibly have been that screwed up, like nothing but an endless trail of unimaginable physical and mental abuse, I looked into finding out more about JT LeRoy, whom the movie was supposed to tell 'the true story of'. I'd heard some about LeRoy when the movie was first being made, and his/her novels and LeRoy's cult of celebrity followers and was kind of fascinated by the phenomenon (which I promptly forgot about).

Now I've learned that JT LeRoy, the transgendered, former hustler, victim of childhood physical and mental abuse, who was once homeless, has AIDS, and used to hook at truck stops, was nothing but an elaborate hoax perpetrated by a 40 year old woman. CRAZY INSANE!

Sugar Rush!

So I just got through watching the first season of the Channel 4 show Sugar Rush, and it's absolute brilliant!

Synopsis: Channel 4 and the makers of 'As If' bring Julie Burchill's novel Sugar Rush to the screen, starring Olivia Hallinan and Lenora Crichlow. Each episode is a different journey inside Kim's world as her wry observations take us into the mind of a screwed up, loved up, lustful adolescent experiencing the bright lights of Brighton and the rush of forbidden love for the first time. Being a teenage girl is tough. Being an un-cool, 15-year-old lesbian who's completely infatuated with the most outrageous and popular girl in school is downright unfair... Sugar Rush explores the world of Kim and her earth-shattering lust for the gorgeous and sassy Maria Sweet, otherwise known as Sugar.

The show is at times hilarious (see: episode about the STD crabs, no seriously it's good comedy), heart-wrenching, weird, and sexy. I learned about the show from SoN message boards, and it is like South of Nowhere's edgy cousin from New York or something. Seriously, Sugar makes Ashley Davies look like a girl scout, and compared to Kim, Spencer really does seem like she's entirely made up of sugar and spice and everything nice. Hell, Stella even makes Mother Superior seem ... well, actually Stella is fun whereas Mother S is just a bitch, lol.
