I loved Spike when he first showed up, and was a big fan into the Season 5.
Then ... Spuffy happened.
Seriously, the Spike/Buffy romance ruined the character for me. RUINED. I HATED him after that (and didn't like Buffy very much while it was going on either). And then, by the time the character moved over to Angel I couldn't even stand to look at him. I almost didn't even watch the last season of Angel because I didn't want to see Spike all over the place, and then I was filled with annoyance every time he was on screen. I was actually relieved when the Faith show didn't go through, because I knew that I couldn't sit through another show with Spike, and I was filled with despair at the though of missing out on Faith, because I couldn't stand Spike.
It's like at this point, I can't even really remember the specifics of why I hate him so much. But I can still feel the intense dislike burning brightly in my heart.
