didn't see the Spock/Uhura romance coming; loved it.
This was me exactly. I was really obtuse about it. I didn't realize until she kissed him. I was like "Aw, Uhura is a really great co-worker ... omg, she's wearing his lips on her face!" I thought they were adorable to. I will be livid if they break them up. Uhura/Spock makes my heart melty.
i nearly laughed out loud when i saw Winona as Spock's mom but she wasn't half bad
lol, my friend giggled every single time she showed up on screen. It's sad that she's now lulz worthy simply for showing her face. I thought she was pretty good as Spock's mom, I really enjoyed all their scenes together and I was DEVASTATED when she died. I didn't see that coming. She was so much cooler than Sarek, who I didn't love in this movie. It cracked me up that even wtih aging makeup Winona still didn't look all that old though. The woman is Benjamin Button, it's crazy.
Scotty's rock friend was cute; i just want to pet him.
I LOVED Scotty's rock friend so much. I was so happy that Scotty went back for him. "You have like a bean and you're full!" lol. When Scotty beamed away and the rock guy sniffled, I was all teary. I was so happy to see him at the end (and in uniform! So cute)
the people i went with were complaining about how they couldn't predict the sun going nova in the far future when they were so technologically advanced.
I didn't really think about this the first time, but the second time I saw it, Nero's motivation seemed even more ridiculous. It's like clearly the Romulans were on par technologically with the Vulcans. They asked the Vulcans for help. It's like, okay Spock was too late, but WTF your scientists didn't come up with anything to solve the problem. Don't destroy Vulcan because apparently everyone on your planet is stupid. Why didn't they just evacuate Romulus? They managed to get 10,000 Vulcans off of Vulcan in minutes, you're telling me Romulus had no idea this was coming. And why the hell was Romulus like two feet away from a sun away? AND HOW ON EARTH WAS STARFLEET TO BLAME FOR ANYTHING? And I don't understand why villians think that killing hundreds of billions of people for other worlds will protect their people? It just makes you the biggest, evilest douche that ever lived.
But, the movie was good enough that the stupidity of Nero didn't bother me too much.
