What a mind fuck!

Holy hell that is a dystopian future!  I mean, I knew that what the Dollhouse was doing wouldn't lead to anything good, but I don't think that I'd picture that scale of devastation.  Wiping entire cities at once and having bands of mindless butchers roaming the streets hadn't even occurred to me. I was watching parts of the episode like:

This might honestly be one of, if not the most horrifying visions of the future I've seen on screen.  Like damn.

Amy Acker continues to amaze and astound me.  She's so good.

I love her like James Franco loves pie.  She's glorious.  I love Dr. Saunders more than Whiskey tbh, but no matter what character she's playing she's awesome.  When Boyd was leaving, Acker had me near tears.  Oh, emotional!Claire, come to woman's breast!  I will comfort thee!  And as Whiskey she was otherworldly and mesmerizing.  I just loved everything that had to do with Acker/Whiskey/Saunders.

Adelle!  My British baby.  I really loved seeing the changes in Adelle through time in the flashbacks this episode.  To see her go from being that glowing, smug, supremely confident director, to the broken, lost woman just trying to preserve what dignity she could for the people under her care in a world she had helped destroy was amazing.  Also, it has to be said, I want Adelle Dewitt to cuddle me and kiss my forehead when I'm feeling sad.  She looks like she gives amazing hug.

Also, the way she said, "Caroline does" when talking about who had a cure, cracked my shit up.  The look of distaste on her face was amazing.

Topher, dude.  I was laughing with/at you in the beginning (insulting Dominic always wins me over), but seeing the complete meltdown he had as a result of realizing what his experimentations and ideas about the technology had led to was moving.  His rambling at the end about not doign things just because he knew how was a little heavy handed, but it needed to be said.  That characters zeal for exploring fucking dangerous ideas has always bugged the hell out of me, and it made me like him a bit more to see him suffering because of what he had done.

I liked learning that Caroline is learning to/will be able to keep her personality, even while still going through the imprinting process.  No wonder the she gets fucking headaches.  That shit must me insane.  I liked the scenes with Caroline and Dr. Saunders, and Caroline and Adelle as well.  The stuff with just Echo and Paul kind of bored of me.  Paul is just such dead weight (I still love you Tahmoh), and Caroline is only tolerable when she's on screen with characters that I like (like Saunders and Dewitt), otherwise she's irritating.

Why Papi thought it was a good idea to shower is beyond me.  I was sad to see her go, but really ... dumb, gurl, really dumb.  As soon as your took your clothes off, I'd already said goodbye to you.

I didn't really care too much about the future people (their future lingo really, really bothered me).  I mean I'm happy some of them got out, but that little girl was best out of all of them.  She went from being annoying, to creepy as hell, to someone that I would follow into battle.  Pretty awesome job for an actress that's like 10.  And I'm sad to say I just don't get the Felicia Day love.  She's like a less memorable (and irritable) Chloe O’Brien (aka Mary Lynn Rajskub) to me.

I don't really know what else to say, this episode amazed me but left me feeling generally depressed.  That future is so bleak!  So very, very bleak!  At the very least it's given me a lot of insentive to cheer for Caroline and company even though they are boring fuckjobs.  If season 2 is the season of convincing me that what the characters are doing will make sure this future doesn't happen then I'm all for it.

HOLY.. I don't even *have* the expletive to go with how I feel about this ep! Mainly, I was just really squeally over new Dollhouse to watch. I know FOX opted not to buy episode 13 for air but I can see how the actual episode may have influenced their decision. Because, really, *everything* changed.. to the point of, if it continued in this vein, being a completely different series. But, had they actually canceled the series this would have been a good episode to end on.

I just loved everything that had to do with Acker/Whiskey/Saunders.

They killed Claire. THOSE BASTARDS!! And we never got to know her real name. Seriously, Acker does 'quiet tragedy' really well. The part that got me was realizing that wasn't Whiskey in the future but a Saunders who'd gone insane from loneliness. That's effin' harsh man!

..but seeing the complete meltdown he had as a result of realizing what his experimentations and ideas about the technology had led to was moving.

See, I felt the same for him as I did Captain Jack at the end of Children of Earth. Like, sorry dude, won't be joining your pity-party because you feel bad about the chaos *you* created. I feel that, ultimately, this was the direction his character arc was going but I still found it a little too rushed/forced.

I found Adelle much more sympathetic mainly because she didn't *expect* any sympathy.. and didn't break down like a fucking baby and was actually willing to face the consequences of her own actions. Which is why I'm going to assume Caroline didn't kill her. For starters, it's Olivia FUCKING Williams and, honestly, as much as I like Eliza Dushku she can't do all the heavy (acting) lifting on her own. And second, it wouldn't be a good idea to kill one of the few remaining people who understands how the technology works and is willing to try and find a cure.

I didn't really care too much about the future people..

Seriously, those first ten minutes could (and should) have been cut by half. I don't watch Dollhouse for a bunch of one-off characters sucking up screentime. And, yeah, Papi deciding she needed to take a shower RIGHT NOW and by herself doesn't give me faith in the future of humanity. I also second your meh-ness towards Felicia Day. I would have actually preferred Acker (as either Whiskey or Saunders) in that role and November as 'the Doll that got left behind'.

MTE. If season 2 takes more steps towards this future I don't know. I mean that was a pretty depressing future. I'm not sure I could handle 22 eps of watching Adelle and Topher lead the dollhouse to its doom.

Thanks for the link! I was going to wait for its premiere at Comic Con but now that it's leaked, there's no one I could wait another week! What an amazing episode!

My favorite part was of course all the Acker goodness! She's just fantastic no matter who she plays. I hope Saunders still plays a prominent role in season 2.
