Does anyone know why LJ/Dreamwidth spacing is so funky when you cut & paste documents?  Every time I post fic, LJ/Dreamwidth automatically converts it to being double-spaced and then I have to go back and manually delete the extra spaces which is so incredibly boring and tedious.  I don't care how first world problems it is, I need for this not to be my life any more.

DOES ANYONE?  Help me, please!

Are you using Windows 7? I started having that problem when I switched over. If you write with their default spacing instead of switching to no spaces, then pasting it into LJ adds in those spaces. At least, I think.

Then again, lately I can't seem to get more than 5000 words per LJ post, which annoys me greatly. I might not know what I'm talking about.

Have you clicked the 'auto format' thing before you post? Not sure if that would help or not.Another idea would be to write the story in either Notepad or Word pad, which are just simple word processors from Windows. I don't think they add all the junk formatting in that Word does, just plain text.

Do you use Word? Word formats paragraphs differently than HTML and it causes garbage in the code if you are auto-formatting paragraphs using space before/space after format spaces.

Turn off any funky Word paragraph settings and use actual double spacing between paragraphs, and this should translate into two regular line break codes in HTML (these if you use the code view:
).

You could also use Dreamweaver to do a code find-and-replace to remove the extra weird paragraph spacing code.

if you're using word 2007, highlight all your text, choose "no spacing", and then copy to LJ/Dreamwidth. it should get rid of the extra spacing.

I use Scrivener to write now and am on a Mac but one of my LJ friends was having this same problem. After working through it with her, eventually it was solved by checking the Smart/Copy Paste option and it stopped adding in extra paragraph spaces. I think this solution should apply for Word as well.

Turn off computer, walk to nearest bar, order several drinks to eliminate seeing double spaces! This works for all technical problems.
