Blade: The Series 1x07 - Delivery
Aug. 3rd, 2006 12:47 amAnother excellent episode.
Loved Charolette's little Napoleon complex. Her little hop onto the desk so that she would be eye level with him after making him sit on the tiny couch was gold. I'm enjoying the character and am interested in finding out more about her. Dominic seemed to know her pretty well and Armayan's have been exiled for a while. It would be interesting to know just how old she is and how she got into a position of power like that, since even among purebloods you've got to think there are older ones who've finished growing and have much more experience than her. Is she like the House of Chton's Wesley Crusher or something? Missed Glynis and her inappropriate interactions with Charolette this week though.
Chase *sobs* Ouch! Seriously the scenes with her were brutal to watch. The first unveiling was pretty bad and I pretty much had the same reaction as Krista, but that second scene where she was healing and they went all red, gooey full body shot with her wheezing in pain. Regeneration, especially on that scale has got to suck. At least it seems like it only took a couple days for her get her skin back (and pixie hair!). But on a serious note, they don't actually expect us to believe she's a natural blonde do they???? I mean, come on UMP!
Liked Marcus's bedside vigil. I know the show is all about the Marcus/Krista on the surface and the Krista/Chase in the subtext (at least in my world, lol), but I find Marcus and Chase's relationship pretty interesting as well. This episode clearly showed that he cares about her deeply and we know that he trusts her without question and I'd be interested in learning a bitt more about "Marcus and Chase: The Early Years". Especially if like a flapper Chase flirts inappropriately (as is her M.O.) with some jazz songtress or something. I like flappers :D
Also, I'm glad Jessica Gower at least got a couple of lines tonight. Her last look as Marcus went off to meet with Krista was brilliant. Chase is sooooo fucking jealous of Krista ... I can't wait to see what's going to come of it, cause she is so "nobody puts Baby in a corner!" She will not not slide into second place gracefully. My solution: Sex. With each other. ;)
*Shock* Blade was actually really interesting tonight. Fucked up Blade is good tv. Loved visions with his mom, especially the one in the kitchen (freaky, disturbing and cool) and what it reveals about Blade's self image. I mean I knew the guy wasn't sunshine and roses but there's some real self loathing and hatred going on there. His reaction to Venessa's 'vamps must suffer' speech was also really subtle and well done.
Also, in the movies his mom "died" in childbirth, but I thought the vision tonight seemed to be hinting that Blade might have killed her when he was a "little man". Anyone else? Anyone? Bueller?
Normally I don't like family subplots, but I actually enjoyed the Krista/AngryUncle/Mom subplot, and the continuation of the 'vampires are like addicts' metaphor. I'm looking forward to the continuation of it next week with Krista seeming to offer to turn her mother (oooh that scary ass dream she had of feeding off of her mom might just come true). Though if she does turn her mother you know that no good will come of it. The desire is so human, but you just know it's not going to end well. And considering how much of a hard time she's having dealing with the reality of being a vamp I boggles my mind that she's even considering it. I guess being a vampire doesn't save you from making irrational but very human emotional decisions.
Also, I totally wasn't expecting Krista to show back up missing half her arm either. That was a great reveal and totally bad-ass. Those two are hardcore. It was a smart move though because from the previews I was thinking the eye thing alone was kind of lame so, 'good one writers!' No wonder she doesn't want to work for him anymore though. When covering your ass involves dismemberment it's time to transfer to a new department!
And because I can't go an entire review without mentioning Jill Wagner's babiliciousness. What was up with that boobalicious top Krista was wearing on her comando mission. I mean after she ashed those vamps in the car, all I could think on her badass dramatic walk to the building was "bongy bongy bongy". Not that I'm complaining, but if you're going to be killing people and stealing vampire fetus's you should have proper support!

Date: 2006-08-03 06:31 am (UTC)*Shock* Blade was actually really interesting tonight.
I was *really* happy with this development because it seemed like Krista was getting all the emotional depth while Blade was continually left in 'grr-argh' mode.
Also, in the movies his mom "died" in childbirth, but I thought the vision tonight seemed to be hinting that Blade might have killed her when he was a "little man". Anyone else? Anyone? Bueller?
I'm going with died in childbirth. I don't think these guys want to deviate *that* much from canon.
Liked Marcus's bedside vigil.
While I still don't like Marcus, I no longer wish for his death. It's kinda fun watching him get smacked around by Charlotte and, now, the Armayans. I honestly see him as a 'disposable' character (especially if that means Chase is put in charge). I found it interesting that it was Chase who mentioned that Marcus has humiliated Charlotte. Because, really, if he hasn't noticed, he really isn't as smart as he thinks he is. As the saying goes - pride goeth before a fall. So I'm hoping for some serious consequences for Mr. Overly-Ambitious.
Plus the slight foreshadowing that the Houses just might have a vampire worker revolt on their hands.
Also, I totally wasn't expecting Krista to show back up missing half her arm either.
Considering the damn promos revealed the facial wound, it was almost a relief. Like, yay, at least there are *some* surprises left!

Date: 2006-08-03 05:46 pm (UTC)Verily. As much as I love Krista (and I do love me some Krista), the show is called Blade: The Series, so Blade should actually get some good stuff to do. I'm still not loving Sticky Fingaz (seriously, no grown man should call himself that), but if the writers keep doing interesting stuff like this with the character I might get interested in Blade despite him.
I'm going with died in childbirth. I don't think these guys want to deviate *that* much from canon.
That's probably a good bet, especially since they had Randy Quaid mention that she died in childbirth in the pilot episode. I just think it would be cool and the cause of a whole lot more angst if she had lived for a while, though they could accomplish a lot of the same stuff by making his father slowly realize that he's a 'monster', which is where it seems to be going (love little Blade's afro in the previews. Such a cute little vampire boy).
While I still don't like Marcus, I no longer wish for his death.
Yeah, I'm in that camp too now. His constant scheming is also making him a bit more interesting. He's smarter than I gave him credit for at first. He's like the Arvin Sloane of vampires (he could even be called UncleInappropriate with the way he ogles Krista and enters her bedroom unannounced when she's in her underwear).
It's kinda fun watching him get smacked around by Charlotte and, now, the Armayans.
Yeah, that Charlotte scene was tons of fun, I really like that character. And watching Marcus get smacked around is great no matter what. Though I do suspect that he isn't in nearly as much trouble as everyone thinks he is. I think Charlotte and Dominic are underestimating him and his plans for his babygoo.
I honestly see him as a 'disposable' character (especially if that means Chase is put in charge).
He's certainly the one I would mind losing the most. I'm all about the Krista, Chase and Shen. Though, considering that he's the prettyboy on the show I doubt he's going anywhere.
The only thing is he admitted that he knew he was humiliating her and sounded kinda sheepish about it. I think he knew exactly what he was doing and that somehow getting Charlotte to propose this to the council (and maybe lower their estimation of her) will serve whatever purpose he has for the babygoo. So devious.
it was almost a relief. Like, yay, at least there are *some* surprises left!
Are you me? Cause that's exactly what I was thinking. I was kinda pissed that the previews showed Krista's scared face because that should have been a big suprise. But then when they panned down to her missing arm I was like "whoa!" and it worked like it should have.
I am so pleasantly surprised by this show which I can say is good without any qualitfication now.

Date: 2006-08-03 07:08 pm (UTC)*sigh* Sticky Fingaz is what you call yourself when you're sitting around with your friends, smoking a bowl and watching Jackass. Plus, it's such a lameass name, might as well have gone with Doodie Head. Although, it's funny to see in the credits he's referred to as Kirk "Sticky" Jones. Glad to see someone wisening up to the ridiculousness of it all.
I just think it would be cool and the cause of a whole lot more angst if she had lived for a while..
It does make me wonder if they're gonna go the movie route and reveal that she's still alive, albeit a vampire. Although I am having a hard time figuring out where this show fits in regards to movie and comics canon. That and it's just the shallow viewer in me that wants Jessica Biel to revise her movie role on the show.
His constant scheming is also making him a bit more interesting. He's smarter than I gave him credit for at first.
I think what I like about him now is that he's no longer 'The Big Bad', per se. He's just one of many in a giant chess game and not the biggest player on the board, so to speak. I just don't want it to be where, five years down the road, Blade is *still* fighting Marcus and would rather it be Blade fighting his way up the food chain as opposed to battling the same shark over and over again.
I am so pleasantly surprised by this show which I can say is good without any qualitfication now.
I *know*!! And who knew one of the best shows of the summer would be on the friggin' Spike channel!?!
