Summary: What happened between Chase helping Krista out of Marcus' office and Krista ending up in chains. Vague spoiler for episode 9 "Angels and Demons".
Krista listlessly tilted her head up as Chase approached her with a damp cloth allowing the blonde to lightly grasp her chin in her hand before she lifted the cloth to her face and carefully began to clean the cuts her fight with Marcus had caused.
Chase had been mostly silent on the limo ride back to the coven but she had felt the blonde’s eyes on her, boring into her as they drove. Chase was looking at her the same way now, with silently accusing glances, judging her even as she tenderly cared to wounds she would have gladly inflicted if Marcus hadn’t taken care of it himself for once.
“Why don’t you just say it,” Krista muttered morosely as Chase drew the reddened cloth away from her face.
“Say what?” Chase responded softly though her eyes focused intently on Krista making it clear that she had quite a bit to say but was holding herself back.
“That I fucked up,” Krista replied meeting Chase’s gaze. “That I never should have been made, and am more trouble than I’m worth. That I bring nothing but trouble and destruction and that he should have just let you break my neck on that rooftop two months ago and spared everyone the headache,” she finished finally looking away from Chase, blinking rapidly to combat the stinging in her eyes as she did.
“Honey,” Chase drawled slowly, running her finger down Krista’s cheek gently as she spoke. “There’s really no need for me to say it now, is there?” she asked watching as Krista’s back stiffened, feeling her jerk her head away from her hand a moment later. “And I wouldn’t have snapped your neck,” she added conversationally smiling suggestively at Krista before stepping away from her and tucking some strands of white-blonde hair behind ear.
“Why do you say things like that?” Krista asked standing up, glancing at Chase briefly before she walked over to her window and gazed out waiting for Chase’s response. She wanted to hate the blonde for agreeing with her earlier statement, but Chase was right she was the one who had made it, and she truly believed it. It would have been easy to transfer her anger at herself over to Chase and give herself a brief reprieve, but she didn’t deserve to feel better about herself.
“Because I mean them,” Chase responded simply once Krista had ensconced herself by the window, smiling when the brunette turned to look at her questioningly.
“You despise me,” Krista stated as if that disproved Chase’s response.
“So?” Chase asked smirking a little as she shrugged and began to move towards Krista. “I’m attracted to you. I don’t want to marry you. You’re not naïve enough to think they’re the same thing are you?”
“No,” Krista replied leaning against the wall and turning to face Chase. “I understand,” she continued licking her lips as she stared at the blonde. “I understand too well. I don’t even think I’m capable of love anymore.”
Chase stopped as Krista’s words hit her and eyed the brunette curiously before enlightenment dawned in eyes.
“She wasn’t caught by the sunrise was she?” Chase asked, surprise and something that sounded a lot like pity in her voice. Krista had told her about her mother’s cancer in the limo. She told her she’d seen her when she came back to coven and had followed the ambulance, but that after the crash her mother had escaped. She’d given chase, but the sun had started to rise. She managed to find shelter but her mother … hadn’t. That’s what she had said, but clearly that wasn’t the case.
Krista looked away from Chase, looking towards the window though her eyes were squeezed shut.
“Silly girl,” Chase murmured moving towards Krista once more stopping just in front of her. “We never turn anyone over forty-five, and never anyone sick. The older you are the harder it is to let go of your former life, to change your way of thinking and adjust not only to a change in circumstance but your entire way of life. And the sick,” Chase continued resting her hand on Krista’s shoulder as she spoke. “They’re already weakened. The virus attacks them much more aggressively,” she went on molding herself against Krista’s side. “You really couldn’t have helped her. Ashing her was the smartest thing you did after leaving the coven three days ago.”
“I’m not sure whether you’re trying to torture me or comfort me,” Krista replied after a moment opening her eyes and turning her body slightly so that she was facing Chase. They were practically nose to nose.
“I’m trying to help you,” Chase replied. “Which is a little bit of both I suppose,” she continued reaching up to brush some lose strands off brown hair off of Krista’s forehead. “You’re a liability to us right now, but you’re also a danger to yourself. Reckless and suicidal is not good for the house.”
“Marcus …”
“Marcus has injected people with garlic extract for a lot less than you’ve done,” Chase interjected before Krista could continue. “I don’t know why, but Marcus has gone stupid for you, which means it’s up to me to make you less of screw-up for all of our sakes.”
“Yeah, well … you’re not doing a very good job,” Krista responded somewhat petulantly though she was surprised by Chase’s response. She knew that Marcus was fond of her, but she hadn’t realized how many allowances he’d made for her that he wouldn’t have made for others.
Chase smirked at that. “Maybe you just need tough love,” the blonde responded before stepping back from Krista and turning her back towards her as she started to walk towards the door. “How are you feeling?”
“Like shit. I thought we covered this already,” Krista responded tightly as Chase reached the door and bent down to pick up a black duffel bag that hadn’t been there when she had left a few days before.
“So you’re not feeling dizzy? Nor having flashes? You’re head doesn’t hurt?” Chase asked moving towards the bed with the bag, dumping it on the mattress before turning her attention back to Krista. “That’s what I thought,” she continued when the brunette simply frowned at her. “You’re going to want to change into something more comfortable.”
“Why? What’s happening to me? What are you going to do?” Krista asked pressing herself against the wall suddenly feeling very uneasy. She thought that the beating she’d taken in Marcus’ office would be the extent of her punishment, but with Chase’s previous comments and current actions she wasn’t quite sure.
“I’m not going to do anything to you except make you comfortable … well, as comfortable as possible,” Chase responded as she unzipped the duffel bag. “Then Marcus will be coming to see you,” she went on moving over towards Krista. “When he rubbed his blood on your lips it strengthened the bond that formed between the two of you when he turned you. It’ll be like your after death experience only this time Marcus will be able to control what you see,” she finished reaching out to stroke Krista’s hand softly before lightly grasping it in her own and guiding Krista towards the bed.
“What’s in the bag?” Krista asked allowing Chase to led her towards the bed. The last thing she wanted was to be inside Marcus’ head again, but she could feel the flashes coming more often and more intensely. She was beginning to be able to see buildings, and people though for no more than a second.
“Chains,” Chase responded turning to smile at Krista. “The leather cuffs are quite forgiving however, there’s no need to fret,” she went on releasing Krista’s hand and reaching for the bag, beginning to remove the chains.
“Is he going to punish me again?” Krista asked her voice surprisingly devoid of fear. In fact as Chase separated the chains she thought that she almost detected a note of anticipation in Krista’s voice that shocked and excited her.
“Is that what you want?” Chase asked abandoning the chains for a moment and moving over to Krista’s closet flinging open the doors dramatically before walking in. “To be punished for being a naughty, stupid girl?” She didn’t look back at Krista as she began to look through her clothes. “Do you want Daddy to spank you?” She asked removing a thin black slip from the closet and heading back towards Krista.
Krista opened her mouth a small sound emerging before she closed her mouth again and stared at Chase.
“Put this on,” Chase said flinging the slip at her. “Then Mommy will give you want you want,” she continued smirking at Krista who eyed her hesitantly for a moment before beginning to strip her clothes off.
“Lie down on your stomach,” Chase commanded softly when Krista had finished changing. As the brunette disrobed she had removed the duffel bag from the bed and moved the chains over to one side.
Krista moved towards the bed but didn’t get on it right away. “Why?”
“Because I agree with you,” Chase replied simply rubbing her hands together slowly. “You deserve to be punished. You need to be punished, and Marcus won’t do it.”
“So once again the responsibility falls to you?” Krista asked lifting her eyebrow mockingly though she placed a knee on the bed as Chase spoke. She knew that she should fight the blonde, that she shouldn’t let those chains anywhere near her, her pride screamed at her to fight. But her pride and arrogance had killed her mother and uncle and she deserved to suffer for that in some tangible way. Feeling bad wasn’t enough. She wanted to hurt as her mother had. She wanted to suffer for it. She needed … she needed to pay a price.
“As usual,” Chase replied as Krista settled herself face down on the bed.
Once the brunette was lying still, Chase then climbed onto the bed herself, running a finger up Krista’s thigh as she crawled up beside her before settling next to Krista’s hip. Once positioned where she wanted to be, Chase then slipped her hand under the hem of Krista’s lips pushing it up over her ass and hips exposing the brunette’s firm, tanned bottom to her.
Krista tensed as Chase exposed her, her breathing becoming shallow with apprehension and anticipation as Chase ran exploratory fingers over her ass.
A moment later Krista’s head flew back, her fangs showing as she growled at the first contact of Chase’s palm against her bottom. She knew that the blonde was planning on slapping her, but the movement from caress to smack had been so quick that it caught her entirely unaware.
Chase watched as her hand connected with Krista’s bum, breathing in deeply at the sound of contact before removing her hand so that she could watch as Krista’s ass reddened slightly.
Krista forced her tense muscles to relax and settled against the mattress once more burying her head in the pillow beneath her preparing herself for the next blow, lifting her ass minutely when the blonde didn’t immediately strike her again.
She didn’t have to wait long after that before the sharp sting of the blonde’s hand was felt against her once more.
Krista pushed her face down into the pillow below her, flashes of white and nameless faces, intermixed with those of her mother, and brother and uncle accompanying every blow of Chase’s hand against her tender flesh. Tears stung her eyes and dampened the pillow beneath her as she gasped into it with each new painful contact, crying and crying out, lifting her ass demanding more, feeling lighter and calmer with every shooting pain that flowed from Chase’s hand to her ass and through the rest of her body.
Chase stared down at Krista, lowering her hand without striking the brunette as Krista ceased to move beside her except for taking in shaky breaths every few seconds. The younger vampires sobs, and cries and growls and curses had gotten progressively quiet as her spanking went on and were now gone completely.
Chase bent over Krista and lowered her cheek to the brunette’s ass, resting her soft skin against the temporary heat of Krista’s red, abused posterior, making soft sounds as she caressed the exhausted woman’s other cheek with her hand soothingly until Krista’s rough breaths evened out as well.
“Come on darling,” Chase said finally pulling back from Krista and lowering the slip back over her bottom. “Let’s turn over,” she continued her voice soft and soothing as she spoke as she gently helped Krista turn over, stroking her forehead and brow as the brunette hissed slightly when her bottom hit the mattress.
“How do you feel?” Chase asked a few moments later, still gently stroking Krista’s face.
“Sore,” Krista responded tilting her head into Chase’s touch unconsciously sighing tiredly. “Better. Calm,” she added her eyes fluttering shut as she fought a sudden wave of exhaustion.
“Your strong Krista, and because of that the transition has been especially hard for you. Most don’t need to suffer this much before they let go,” Chase said gently, drawing her hand away from Krista’s face as she twisted her body slightly to reach for the chains. “This was a harsh lesson for you, but one you needed to learn. You’ve been punished,” Chase continued securing the straps on Krista’s ankles, “and now you need to accept it and move on. You fucked up, okay, we all do. We all have. Remember, but let it go,” she went on shifting up the bed to begin securing Krista’s wrists.
“I don’t know if I can,” Krista admitted softly, closing her eyes and seeing her mother’s face once more.
“You have to, or you’ll die too,” Chase replied moving to straddle Krista’s waist now that she was secured. “Our lives are measured in centuries, soon you’ll understand how decades go by in the blink of an eye. You would have lost her soon enough anyway, as we all lose our friends and family to sickness and old age,” Chase went on as she drew her hands up Krista’s sides. “Marcus was right, we are you’re family now. You’re not alone,” she continued softly before leaning down to press a kiss against Krista’s forehead. “So don’t let us down,” she added staring seriously at Krista before pulling away from the brunette and climbing off of her to stand by the side of the bed.
“Marcus will be here soon. Try to rest until then,” Chase instructed a few moments later as she bent of Krista testing the restraints making sure they had enough give so as not to hurt her too badly. “You’ll need it.”
Krista watched as Chase headed towards to door. She wanted to say something to the blonde, but she was so tired. She hadn’t slept in days and thought she might never sleep again but she could now barely keep her eyes open. She wanted to … she wanted to tell Chase that she had helped, but all she could do was close her eyes.
Chase stopped by the door and turned to look at the now slumbering brunette, shaking her head.
Krista was a piece of work.
But then again, that’s what everyone had said about her.
The End

Date: 2006-08-25 08:09 am (UTC)Hee, that's totally Marcus, in regards to Krista, in a nutshell isn't it?
This was just.. *sigh*. I think what I liked best was the 'comrades in arms' aspect. Chase may not like Krista but she'll do what needs to be done for the Coven. Krista may not completely trust Chase, but she trusts her more than she does Marcus. Whereas Marcus imposes his will upon her (at *his* leisure), Chase has been more of a reluctant guide. Marcus breaks her and Chase is the one who picks up the pieces and puts her back together again*. And then there's the ending which puts a perfect coda on Chase's feelings towards Krista - she sees a bit of herself in the woman. Although, with Chase, I suppose that's a good *and* a bad thing.
* And, I'm eagerly waiting for the episode where those roles are reversed, where it's Krista who's the one putting Chase back together again.

Date: 2006-08-29 08:56 pm (UTC)Totally, he makes no sense around her, lol. He's a pretty organizer banker vampire, but nothing he's done with regards to Krista makes any sense. *pokes writers with a sharp stick* Oh, well, all the more reason to concentrate on Chase/Krista which DOES make sense.

Word. Chase and Krista have a reluctant respect or at least tolerance for each other. They'll snip at each other like High School girls, but when it comes down to it they look out for each other. Right now the real things standing between a true friendshp (or more) between them is Chase's jealously and Krista's 'vampires are evil' issues. There's such a great potential for a beautiful and interesting relationship between them.
And, I'm eagerly waiting for the episode where those roles are reversed, where it's Krista who's the one putting Chase back together again.
Oh how much would I love to see that episode. It would be a really important step forward in there relationship. A mission gone wrong where Chase is injured and Krista risks herself to help/get Chase back to safety. If they do a war between the vampire houses in season 2, this trench warfare story so needs to made. It'd even be interesting to see if Krista would try to save Chase if she was in danger from Blade, like despite agreeing with his mission in theory she can't quite let him kill someone she's gotten to know.
*sighs with pleasure at all of the wonderful possibilities for these characters*

Date: 2006-08-30 01:15 am (UTC)I like the comrades in arms aspects because both women are, in their own ways, soldiers. I like to think of Chase as Krista's Sergeant compared to Marcus' distant and bullying General. And, imo, it's this mindset that makes Krista respond more openly to Chase than she does to Marcus. It's easier to relate to someone who you're fighting with side by side in the trenches than the General overlooking the battle. I'd also note that Krista responds to Blade in the same manner as Chase - a higher ranking soldier, but a soldier nonetheless.
It's funny, if TPTB weren't shoving the Marcus/Krista ship down our throats, I'd swear the *real* triangle of this show is Chase/Marcus/Blade.
It'd even be interesting to see if Krista would try to save Chase if she was in danger from Blade, like despite agreeing with his mission in theory she can't quite let him kill someone she's gotten to know.
You do realize I'm squeeing internally over the idea of Khase hurt/comfort storyline right? I mean, just the idea of a wounded Chase with Krista kissing her boo-boo's already is hotter than the Marcus/Krista pity fuck.

Date: 2006-08-30 02:53 am (UTC)I like this description of their relationship a lot. I think it's very fitting. Chase and Krista are out there together, whether it's prowling the streets for skeevy men to bite, and fighting ashers, and taking Lycan bloodbaths they're out there together, while Marcus in back at the coven sitting in his big chair throwing pencils at the ceiling and drinking scotch or whatever it is he's doing while his minions are out doing the heavy lifting. And as Xander and Cordelia proved being in scary, potential deadly situations together = sexy times, lol.
I'd swear the *real* triangle of this show is Chase/Marcus/Blade.
Chase or Krista?

I know, I know! It's like Krista's licking of bloody wounds would actually be sexy if it was Chase she was taking care of. Chase watching her as she did, all pretense of hatred and rivalry gone replaced by tenderness and a slightly surprised awe that Krista is taking care of her so lovingly. *sighs dreamily* Hell, the TPTB at least give me and Krista and Chase platonic hurt/comfort scene I'll slash it myself (and well, really I'm sure Jessica and Jill will help with the bedroom eyes they would inevitably make at each other in such a scene!)

Chase or Krista?
Dammit, I meant Chase/Krista/Blade with Chase and Blade representing the two sides pulling Krista in two equally opposite directions. Both are guides for Krista as she makes her way through the vamp world, with Chase pulling her deeper and Blade pulling her out. *sigh* I hate to admit I'm turning into a Blade/Krista shipper but, dammit, the Big Dumb Vampire really does care about his Boo.
Chase watching her as she did, all pretense of hatred and rivalry gone replaced by tenderness and a slightly surprised awe that Krista is taking care of her so lovingly.
Hee, Chase already hates how much she's attracted to and admires Krista. It would just *kill* her, but in a good way, if Krista were the one to lick her wounds.. figuratively and, most importantly, literally!
Now, if you'll excuse me - I'll be in my bunk.

Date: 2006-08-30 03:47 am (UTC)I kinda love the idea of Marcus as the metrosexual best friend that just wants to see those two crazy kids get together.

OMG, how much more innovative and interesting and sexy would that have been! *daydreams about its awseomeness for a moment* And while Khase will always be my #1 Blade the Series OTP, I like the idea of Blade/Krista for canon (especially since with Blade being Blade they would have to take their time with it, and actually develop their relationship before throwing them into bed together). Chase is the temptress that appeals to Krista's darker more primal instincts, and Blade is her corner stone, her foundation that draws her back to the light/good side (which also has cookies), who pulls her back above the surface when she thinks she's going to drown. Plus there's that nice symmetry of them being the only people who can really understand them because they're both fighting their vampire natures. Much more moving and poignant that Marcus smearing Krista with his blood (again, ewww).
I'll be in my bunk.
Oh Jayne. And Inara kissing girls. *misses Firefly* Morena for WW!!!! [Rob Cordry]Holla!!!! Oh, wait that's hola.[/RC]

Yes, they're both fighting their vampire natures and Krista's symbolic of their 'lost humanity'. And can you imagine the hot angry!sex when each of them finds out Krista's been sleeping with the enemy!?! It's a shame that with all the story options the PTB had available to them, they chose the path they did for Krista/Marcus. *ponders a Chase/Krista/Blade threesome after picking someone besides Sticky to play Blade*
Oh, and I also have to add I'm on the Blade/Krista train more because of my 'get Blade laid' campaign. Three movies, three hot leading ladies and Blade doesn't get busy at least *once*!?! Man must have the bluest balls on the face of the planet!! No wonder he's so pissed off!

Date: 2006-08-30 04:37 am (UTC)*giggle* *snort* And his hair was just as bad in those flashbacks. Plus he's got his own little vampire girl making his life hell as well. Marcus is totally Blade the Series answer to Lestat!
And can you imagine the hot angry!sex when each of them finds out Krista's been sleeping with the enemy!?!
*thinks of the unimaginable hotness that is Chase strapping Krista down on that chair she stabbed Fritz on, and punishing her with pain and pleasure for consorting with Blade. Then thinks of the angry!wallandfloor sex that Krista would be in store for after Peeping!Blade spied her getting it on with Chase as he fucks her for her soul, lol.*
*Glares at writers with much venom because this will not happen*
*ponders a Chase/Krista/Blade threesome after picking someone besides Sticky to play Blade*
That would be pretty awesome with my movie boyfriend Chiwetel Ejiofor taking Sticky's place as Blade in this fantasyland. OMG, a Chase/Krista/Ejiofor ménage might be too hot to handle *fans self*
Three movies, three hot leading ladies and Blade doesn't get busy at least *once*!?! Man must have the bluest balls on the face of the planet!! No wonder he's so pissed off!
I know! Poor Blade. Seriously, being denied the hotness of Leonor Varela alone would make me a very, very angry vampire slayer. Let alone not getting any N'Bushe or Biel or Posey action. I mean dude, it's his trilogy and everybody gets more action than him. Blade didn't even get to be tortured by any girls like Hannibal did. It's just kill, kill, stab, stab. Big guy needs a little lovin'!

Date: 2006-08-30 06:30 am (UTC)The sad part is, even with Marcus replacing Chase in this equation, the setup is totally there - they're just not doing it! Hell, as the series stands right now it might as well be called Blade: The Battle for Krista Starr's Soul. It's just missing the *real* sexual tension of a good versus evil love triangle. TPTB are just wimping out on making Marcus actually evil. That and Jackson's inability to portray layers!
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Once again, I weep for what could have been for Blade. 'Cuz CE would have rocked and the sex with Krista and then Chase ( c'mon, in this scenario ya gotta do the storyline where the enemies have to work together) would have been smoking!
Big guy needs a little lovin'!
Totally! When the villain is getting more play than the leading man somethin' just ain't right!

Date: 2006-09-02 11:22 am (UTC)And yes I agree, a Chase/Krista/Blade triangle would be much more compelling for me to watch than the Marcus/Krista/Chase one that seems to be brewing.
I am also a total supporter of hurt/comfort goodness between our two girls. I too long to see Krista kissing Chase's booboos for once.

Date: 2006-08-29 09:07 pm (UTC)This was like one of the best parts of the episode for me, because I was like "WHAAAT? She just had a few cuts on her head, why is she chained to the bed. How did she get chained to the best considering how beligerant she had been beforehand? Why didn't they just lock the door if they wanted to make sure she didn't get out?" It just made no sense. But apparently when Chase tells you 'change into a slip so that I can tie you to the bed' that's exactly what you do, lol.
but these two have obviously been through this before
I certainly like to think they have ;) Krista must have been so disappointed when Marcus came into the room, after anticipating spending some quality time with The Chase!

Yep. Their relationship is a complex and messed up one. Which is why I love them ;)

Date: 2006-08-31 12:29 am (UTC)Chase does seem to have a knack for disarming Krista even at her most suspicious. It's the girl bondage...or maybe bonding, whatever :D.
Krista must have been so disappointed when Marcus came into the room, after anticipating spending some quality time with The Chase!
How disappointing indeed! What I want to know is how Chase can live with herself letting Marcus play his tricks on her girl Krista. And why does she let Marcus treat her like shit all of time when she's not recovering from being burned? Maybe it's time for Charlotte to offer her a better deal.

Yeah, I know. It's like Chase, stand up for gf! And the way Marcus has been treating Chase has really surprised me. At the beginning of the season there was trust and respect between them. She truly seemed like his confidant and First Commander or whatever. And I thought that his vigil over her when she was burned was very sweet and showed that he was equally devoted to her as she was to him. But once she got better, my god his behavior has been atrocious and cold. I really thought that they were going for a Chase betrayal story because with the way he's been treating her it would totally make more sense then her undying loyalty. I'm still keeping out hope that Chase is working on a double bluff or something, like telling Marcus about Charlotte was a play inside of the C/Cs larger plan. I live in a dream world like that, lol.

Date: 2006-09-02 10:12 pm (UTC)Totally. Chase, stop pimping Krista to Marcus, you know you want her for yourself. Which actually makes me realize maybe that's why Chase is making her move next ep. I was wondering about the timing, but maybe she is letting Krista know that she's got options. Better looking *and* more predictable if psycho options. What's not fun about that, lol!
At the beginning of the season there was trust and respect between them.
It seems there's mostly trust and respect as long as Chase doesn't challenge Marcus' judgement. Overall Marcus has been very harsh with Chase anytime she's questionned him. Like in the first ep when they discuss the advisability of Krista, he showed her the fangs of doom and the unhappy vampire face and it was totally about dominance.
Seems like when Marcus is unhappy with Chase, he doesn't hesitate to remind her who's boss. Like when he sends Chase after Boone. He tells her to take Krista and go to Leichen. When she pushes back, he goes all 'you'll just do what I say' on her and 'your petty concerns are trivial, so grow up'.
Yet despite completely disregarding Chase and taking her obedience for granted, he does trust her to have his back and she does. And vice versa as shown when Chase was burned.
Anyways, I don't think Marcus' attitude is a new thing, so Chase could have built a healthy aspiration to get out from under his power for many years now.
It would have been interesting to play this option out.

Date: 2006-09-02 11:13 pm (UTC)LOL so true. And I love Chase's psychoness it's part of what makes her so awesome ... and so much more interesting than Marcus.
It seems there's mostly trust and respect as long as Chase doesn't challenge Marcus' judgement. Overall Marcus has been very harsh with Chase anytime she's questionned him.
You know what, I've been so absorbed with his recent asshat behavior that I totally forgot about all of that. But everything you mentioned does show a history of a lack of respect between them. He'll use Chase but she better fucking remember her place. I liked that moment in the first episode when he just freaked out on her cause it made him look like a badass vampire, but considering how much Chase has done for him and is loyal to him to treat her like that after years of service is really low.
You know, I'm firmly convinced that Chase was a battered wife when she was with Frederick (Charlotte's comments this week about her being a survivor cementing that feeling), and she escaped from that which is good, but she's gotten herself into another relationship which is abusive as well. Even though she kicks ass now, she still takes Marcus' temper tantrums, when he disregards her opinion and phsyically threatens her she runs back to him like the battered wife she used to me, and she let him whore her out to Alex (like she talked about being given to other in her AA meeting speech).
Chase! You could do so much better! You've just substitued one abuser for another!
Omg, I didn't think it was possible but you've made me hate Marcus even more. He's such a bastard, which is fine for a villian, but TPTB need to stop trying to make him a leading man because he's despicable.
Chase could have built a healthy aspiration to get out from under his power for many years now.
You would think. Recent eps have shown her with extremely disappointed expressions so I'm hoping that her telling him about her meeting with Charlotte is part of a larger deception (that she's formed on her own or with Charlotte) and that she plans on not only leaving but destroying his ass as well. I mean during that tea part Charlotte showed Chase more respect (and she's an arrogant pureblood) than Marcus has all season long.

Date: 2006-09-03 12:18 am (UTC)Yes, of course you're completely right about Chase having been abused. I remember watching that AA scene and thinking that it was obvious the writers meant for that little speech to be actually the truth of Chase's past (classic 'kill two birds with one stone' writer trick). The reason I was having trouble tieing it to the rest of the storyline is that they made Frederick a little too sympathetic. I suppose he may have learned the errors of his ways in the intervening years since he went to Leichen, but he should have been groveling to Chase a little more when she was around given that she's obviously still not recovered from what he did to her. Of course maybe he's just one of these creepy guys who seem sympathetic and then turn out to be wife beaters. There's still something that doesn't add up with him because you know he found Krista's empty serum vials. He's got to know what they are and yet he hasn't said anything to anyone. Whatever, I'm clearly overanalyzing.
I'm hoping that her telling him about her meeting with Charlotte is part of a larger deception (that she's formed on her own or with Charlotte) and that she plans on not only leaving but destroying his ass as well.
The writers need to come up with something like that otherwise the show's going to lose much of its complexity. Unfortunately, I suspect Chase is more the happy-go-lucky, do whatever feels good in the moment type and she needs someone like Charlotte (or Marcus) to be the braintrust and come up with the planning ahead. Not that she's dumb, because she's obviously not, but it's just a personality thing. If she'd been the scheming type, she would already be the boss.
Maybe what she needs is to kick Marcus to the curb first. My guess is this can only happen if a friend (Krista?) helps her with it. Charlotte's not close enough emotionally to support her through it. Once Chase shakes off the battered housewife thing she has going with Marcus, she'll blossom into the kick ass vampire leader she can be.

Chase really seems to be trying to help Krista adjust to her new life. I hope Krista gets around to rewarding her properly soon. *winks*
I don’t even think I’m capable of love anymore
This had resonance for me, and I think it's part of Krista's baggage. But I think she's wrong, and it would seem Chase knows it too. I mean if you are capable of intense hatred, then you are capable of love. It's indifference and not caring at all which is the danger.
It reminds me of some random movie I saw on telly where someone said 'The true evil is a lack of empathy.' I would agree with that.

I love that description of Chase. So true.

Definately. Chase has been where Krista is before and knows that the dark feelings will pass. I think Krista reminds her a lot of herself after she was turned (with her having problems adjusting and trying to hold on to her old life) which is why she can be so terribly bitchy and concsending but also protective and mothering. It's like she hates being reminded of her weakness, but she kinda wishes maybe someone had taken her under their wing because it would have made her transition easier. Fascinating. I love them!

Date: 2006-09-01 03:29 am (UTC)Yep. This is it in a nutshell. And you can see the fear, that Krista will soon outshine her, surpass her own abilities, and yet an odd identification as well, with Krista's internal struggle as a newborn and her resistance against succumbing to the growing darkness inside of her.

Date: 2006-09-01 04:34 am (UTC)So true. I gotta hand it to Jessica Gower because she makes Chase's fear/weariness/insecurity and all that jazz about Krista so palpable. When Krista came back from Berlin and Marcus felt Chase's side to go see Krista that look she shot at him as he got into the elevator was heartbreaking. So very scared of Krista taking her place. And yet, when push comes to shove she'll protect and guide her. There's this sense of understanding and you know (thanks Fritz!) that Chase was not always the badass she is (or pretends to be) now.
Besides Krista's probably the most interesting/exciting thing to come along in a couple decades ;)

Date: 2006-09-02 03:10 pm (UTC)Totally. The writers teased with some complexity to Chase with the reveal that she had night terrors for 10 years which went against what we had known of her from the pilot, and then the AA meeting just added to that sense that we don't really know Chase at all. I hand it to Gower because it was just her tone when she was speaking about not letting someone hurt her again that hinted without making it painfully obvious that Chase was pulling from a personal place. Since then Chase has just become a beautiful mess of complexity, vulnerability, sensuality and so much more. Love her!

Chase needs to put the blame for Marcus' asshat behavior where it belongs, on Marcus. Krista didn't ask to be his special new pet. Chase needs to kick Marcus to the curb and then she and Krista will be free to be sistahs doin' it (and each other!) for themselves.
