Blade - Season Finale

OMG! So much love for this episode! I've laughed out loud, gasped, cringed, cheered, and whooped.

Glad to see Blade Totally. Going. There. once again!

"You wearing a wire or some shit?!?" LOL. I don't know why but that line made me laugh my ass off. Probably the combination of the ghetto-ness of the line combined with the generally bitchy disposition of Blade in that scene.

Loved, loved, loved that Chase did turn over to Charlotte's side. LOVED THAT CHASE OUTRIGHT SAID IT WASN'T ABOUT MARCUS. When push comes to shove, I love that Chase totally chose Chase. Plus, Chase was actually trying to do something nice for Krista last week by telling her to give up on Marcus and join her/become her friend. She was giving Krista one last chance to save herself. Also, I love how one of the first things on her list to do after sticking it to Marcus was to claim Krista as her bitch. Too bad Krista plays about as well with others as Blade does, lol. Oh I'm joking, but I appreciated the return of the subtext, plus their bitch fight was awesome, Krista got some great one liners and Chase got away battered but not dead (plus, Marcus' Chase is a badass and you should watch your ass for the rest of your life speech was great). Also, Chase's bloodgasm from torturing Shen was hot. That's right, I said hot.

Loved that Krista totally didn't seem smitten with Marcus this episode. That little dismissive "I've got a headache" peck she gave him when she came out of the bathroom killed me. I laughed, I did I did. Obviously with her "Blade!" at the end distracting Blade from ashing Marcus the connection is still there, but it's not love.

Loved, loved, loved that the Purebloods didn't buy Marcus' bullshit. Too bad they didn't just frenzy on him and eat his ass. At least then he would have been all mangled and shit for the fight.

Loved, loved loved Shen with his bad ass rolling kung-fu moves, and his taking his torture like a man and quipping, and his "do you have any toilet paper" baiting notes of kickassery. And his snark, oh how I love his snark. Shen was totally fine this episode. Plus I gotta add, Krista was totally bad ass by breaking her own fingers to help Shen out. [Stevie Wonder]Knowin' you can always count on me for sure! That's what friends are for![/SW] It was a sweet way to end a torture scene. Plus I love how Marcus was being such a delicious bastard since he totally knew Krista was working for Blade at that point and was friends with Shen.

Loved, loved, loved that Marcus' plan didn't work and BLADE SAVED THE DAY by releasing the gas.

Loved, that Krista was discovered in the end. That was one hell of a cliffhanger. THERE MUST BE A SEASON 2!!! THEY CANNOT LEAVE THINGS LIKE THAT. I WILL CRY. SPIKETV WILL HAVE MADE A GROWN ASS WOMAN CRY!

At the start with Marcus' rambling, boring, self-important speech I was discouraged. Then, my god, did it ever pick up.

This was exactly how I felt. Especially after the last episode I was very scared that it would be crap when it started out with Marcus being an arrogant dickwad, but it quickly picked up.

Lord Rusk! (Thanks for the name, I forgot it). I really liked Lord Rusk, he had a fun aurora of smarm about him, and had a personality unlike Marcus. Too bad he turned into a pile of black goo, he would've been fun to see next season. He was, as you said though, no Charlotte. I don't any pureblood can be as cool as that little girl. You know that she and Rusk were probably the leaders of the conclave. None of the others had dynamic personalities.

I really loved that first leap he made up onto the round table at the start of the fight with Blade. The wirework and effects were rather smooth, and he did look great doing it.

That was smooth, I have to admit it. That was a hella cool visual, and Neil made it look good. I love it when vamps defy gravity.

I also loved the fight between Krista and Chase. At times it made me wince, which is a good thing considering that at times the fight scenes on this show have been rather... lacking.

So true. I actually found it more brutal than Blade/Marcus. They had some really vicious blows going in that fight. Plus, there was a real antagonism that led to snark which made it fun. Again another reason why Marcus was a crappy villian, no emotional connection to Blade or real antagonism between them. Like, Blade just actually saved Marcus' ass, and Blade used Marcus' shit to kill the purebloods so it was kind of like they were just going through the motions. With Chase and Krista it was personal.

I got the feeling that Krista was not looking to kill Chase...I think that Krista may be holding out hope that in the future she can convince Chase to go down after all :) It must certainly be a fight for the top in that relationship. I can't see Chase or Krista giving in easily.

I like the idea that Chase threw Chase down those stairs just to win the fight without having to ash Chase. After all, she did try to make piece with Chase earlier in the episode knowing that the shit was about to start flying (she was at a point where it shouldn't have mattered whether Chase liked her or not). Also, I don't think Chase indeed to really hurt/ash Krista and that Krista knew that from Chase's "You're mine" and the fact that she simply held on to Krista when the betrayal was revealed (actually protecting her by keeping her from trying to get between the purebloods and Marcus) and didn't try to actually hurt her in anyway.

I'm still hoping that there will be some kind of Krista goes to Leichen subplot next season (and that Chase will end up there too, since she's kind of in a rough spot right now with Marcus hating her and since the Chthon purebloods are dead no one can vouch for her that she kept her part of the deal) and that they will have to join up together for some reason (like Frederick/the house of Leichen is shown not to be the hippy human lovers they seem like).

So true. I will miss Charlotte dearly, she was awesome. You just know that she must have been the driving force behind the Chthon conclave, she was young and dynamic and had plans. Speaking of young, just where did Charlotte come from? She must have been born into Chthon, but how? Were the members of the Conclave her parents and if so, which ones (there was only one woman, but which man)? Do the purebloods have parents? If not, where do they come from? Rusk must have been her father if purebloods mate to make more purebloods, he seemed to be genuine with the sadness over her death. On the other hand, no one seemed that broken up over her death, and the death of a pureblood must be a huge event, there are just not that many purebloods and I imagine that the birth of a pureblood must also be a huge event. Do purebloods have familial bonds? Clan seems very important to vamps, and Houses are paramount, but do the vamps love their kids? Are purebloods the only ones who can have children, and do they raise them and love them, or are they on their own right after birth like a baby shark? I just had this image of a baby Charlotte, crawling around on the floor for 20 years and biting ankles. Being an infant pureblood must suck, how long does it last?

Very much so, it looked like it really hurt, which is good stunt work. Quippyness during a fight is always good, and snarky lovers' tiff snark is even better. Oh Khase, such a hot 'ship...

This is very true, Blade didn't even really want Marcus dead, he wants Marcus higher up the vamp hierarchy. Maybe this is why the show doesn't work for Blade fans, the hero doesn't want the villain dead or stopped, he wants to help him advance up the corporate ladder. Not very compelling drama. I had no problem with Krista stopping Blade ashing Marcus because Blade could not have wanted to kill him that bad. I think he got caught up in the fight and was going to kick Marcus' ass, but then Krista reminded him that he doesn't want Marcus dead yet.

Yeah, Chase could have threatened to kill her, she has not been shy about that in the past. Instead she claimed her as her bitch. I can't fault her priorities. I think Chase was protecting Krista, as I am sure the Conclave would have been very interested in just what part Krista played in the plot to kill them. Marcus' fave would have been a huge target and Chase stepped in and
made it obvious she would take charge of Krista.

I really want a second season. My wishlist for that second season: Lots of Krista, lots of Chase, plots that revolve around Leichen, loads of Krista/Chase snark and (sub)text, minimal Marcus, loads of Shen.

Speaking of young, just where did Charlotte come from? She must have been born into Chthon, but how? Were the members of the Conclave her parents and if so, which ones (there was only one woman, but which man)? Do the purebloods have parents?

In an interview Emily Hirst (Charlotte) did, she said that purebloods could be produced by two purebloods mating, or that sometimes as a kind of freak mutation a pureblood vampire could be born to two human parents. Hirst said that on set they decided that Charlotte had been born to human parents and had then eaten them. So she was probably just adopted into Chthon.

I'm guessing that they were pissed, but they had to act 'normal' around Marcus and pretend like they thought her death was an accident so as not to tip their hand to him. Still it would have been nice to hear a line like "You're going to suffer. Evisceration was a favorite of Charlotte's, I think we'll start with that ... in her honor" or something like that.

Hee. And word. Really in would make sense for purebloods to like age naturally (like Blade) until 21 or so, and then have the aging process virtually stop, so that they look that age for hundreds of years. Emily Hirst is about 12 years old, Charlotte is 200 so I figure vamps visually age about 6 years every 100 years or so. That means that pureblood children are virtually helpless for their first 100 years of life. Like not only does that suck for them, but think about their parents having to change diapers for like 25 years or something, lol. And then you get the whole mess of adolesence, though I suppose purebloods could be considered grown once they're like 13 or 14 like back in ancient Rome and medieval times and stuff. Which is fine for purebloods, but turnedbloods like Glynis probably still would've been like "ah hell noes" if little tween purebloods were to come on to them.

I didn't even think of that, but that makes me go 'grrr'. The writers hard on for Marcus is really screwing the show over. The good guy should not want the bad guy to succeed and help him do so. It's just bad story telling. The villian should be the villian and even if we love to hate them we and the hero should clearly want them stopped. Seriously, worst. bad guy. ever.

Very true. I didn't quite think of it that way, but she did really annouce it to the whole room, and it was a great way of saying without saying "she was with Marcus, but she's with now so she's cool". Really if Chase hated Krista as much as she was pretending she would have just let her rush to her death, but she protected her. Plus, that look smirky-sexy Chase give Krista as she walked out the door just before the Shen-torture was totally a look of "all that is going to be mine soon". I thought the look was strange at first, but Chase totally knew that Krista would have to go with her if she wanted to live once the shit went down. Oh, Chase, I'd say 'kiss the girl!' but you already did that. And I'd say 'tie the girl up' but you already did that too. Then I'd say 'take her to dinner' but you tried to do that and Krista was all like "I'm on a diet". So now I'll say you should try buying her something pretty (it seemed to work for Marcus!)

So much love for Charlotte. Hirst rocked that character, she really did. She should have been the villain of the season, not Marcus. God, things would have been so much better if it was Charlotte and her henchvamps Chase and Glynis the whole way through.

Also, I have to wonder how much Chase knows about Krista working for Blade, and when and if she knew. She lead the team to the hideout, but Marcus doesn't seem to have been telling her much lately. It is possible that Chase doesn't know, which could make things interesting. I wonder if she knew when she went to Krista's room in last week's ep. Was she asking Krista to forsake both Blade and Marcus for her?

Definitely, I want to know more about Chase, her backstory, the deal about her and Frederick, and to see more of him and Leichen. If we had to suffer through a Marcus centered douche-tastic flashback ep and had a Blade flashback ep, I want a Chase backstory ep damnit!
