fembuckThis is the most fantastic, gayest, most wonderful episode of anything that I have ever watched. Yumi and Sachkio are like two little button-nosed puppies frolicking in a green meadow with sunshine and rainbows bathing them in a radiant light that's made of pure love and chocolate chips, smothered in creamy, pure innocence and delight.
Seriously, I cannot express to you how wonderfully gay and awesome this episode is (yes, gayer than "The Lamb's Vacation" where Yumi watched Sachiko take off her top, and then at the end they agreed to lay around on blankets and sleep together!).
Precious Moments from "A Breath of Fresh Air":
1. Sachiko getting embarassed after Rei tells a story about Sachiko drooling during a flight. After glaring at Rei, Sachiko stands very close to Yumi and tells Yumi that she's can't believe anything that Rei says. Then she very playfully knocks Yumi in the head before taking her seat at the table and telling everyone to get to work. First of all, the image of Sachiko drooling is absolutely precious, but the little playful knock she gives Yumi is just so un-Sachiko and really shows how close the two of them have gotten and how comfortable Sachiko now is around Yumi.
2. Sachiko = Best Girlfriend Ever Moment #1 (there's a lot of them). Yumi has been being kind of stalked by a first year girl for the beginning of the episode, and finally when they meet in the greenhouse Yumi addresses the stalking. First Year Girl launches into a speech about hating men that makes Sachiko look boy crazy, and then she goes on a Crazy!Woman rant about how Yumi is pure and must not be tainted by dirty boys, and should remain in a state of child-like innocence forever. Yumi is understandably freaked the hell out. First Year Girl then goes on to beg Yumi to act innocent even if she isn't for the benefit of the girls at the school, but before she can get very far into that speech, Sachiko's soft glorious voice is heard and in no uncertain terms she tells First Year Girl to "step". Sachiko-sama to the rescue! Sachiko goes on to completely pwns First Year Girl ("Put an end to your arrogance. You do not write the rules for this world, now do you?" booyah!), who runs out of the greenhouse crying because Sachiko nobody messes with Sachiko's boo! Yumi overcome with relief at being saved falls down at Sachiko's feet, and Sachiko very gently reaches out for Yumi's hands and they hold hands as Yumi tells us in a voice over that there's no one she would rather be with than Sachiko and omgtheyaresocuteandtotallygayforeachother!
3. Sachiko = Best Girlfriend Ever Moment #2. Sachiko tells Yumi that she loves her!!! So I'm serious. She's says, and I quote "I love everything about you: your hair, your face, your voice, your fingertips...but it wasn't your outside appearance that inspired my love for you. It was your heart which shapes the rest of you." And all the while she is tracing her fingers over Yumi's face and down her neck and over her shoulders before finally fingering Yumi's scarf at the end. Then they hold hands and Yumi very sweetly runs her thumb over Sachiko's fingers.
And then as if that weren't enough, Yumi asks Sachiko if she can see her heart, and Sachiko responds "of course", before launching into this speech ... which is again entirely made of love and awesome. "Even if I were in a pitch-black, soundless world, I'd sense your presence immediately. And ... yes, let's say you were in a terrible accident. And in the hospital you were taken to a thousand people were laid out on beds, wrapped up in bandages like mummies. I'd most certainly find you on my first try...I know that I would never mistake you for another, even under such circumstances."
Yumi then promptly flings herself into Sachiko's arms, her face buried in Sachiko's chest and Sachiko lovingly strokes her hair.
*swoon*
4. Sachiko = Best Girlfriend Ever Moment #3. It's Handara festival time and the Roses and en butons arrive at the boys school. As they are moving through the grounds and giant Panda comes over to Yumi and gives her a big lollipop before patting her on the head. Yumi gets embarassed at being singled out, and she gets teased by her brother about seeming like a kid, but Sachiko once again comes to the rescue and tells Yumi that it's a blessing since she like sweets. Then displaying how well she had gotten to know Yumi, Sachiko says "If you don't want it, then give it to me." Yumi, because she's cute as a button then hides the sucker behind her back and responds "No, he gave it to me!" like a three year old. Sachiko smiles knowingly, pleased with herself for getting Yumi to want the sucker and they head off. Awwwwww!
5. Yumi = Equally Awesome Girlfriend. This episode is all about how well Yumi and Sachiko have gotten to know each other, like they are almost now a part of each other and Yumi gets to demonstrate her mad Sachiko skills at the festivals. The Roses need to go up onto these high scaffolds to judge the competition, but Sachiko is afraid of heights and Yumi, knowing this, says that she would like to go up on the scaffold as well "to see what it's like". She then invites Sachiko to join her, which allows Sachiko to take her hand and be led up the stairs to the platform without losing face because she's "doing it for Yumi". Yumi then even tests out the chair on top of the scaffold to make sure that it's safe for Princess Sachiko before Her Highness (just kidding, I love you Sachiko) sits down on it.
6. Yumi = Equally Awesome Girlfriend Moment #2. Crowds of sweaty boys are crawling up the platforms to reach the roses, and Sachiko begins to sweat. She's no longer afraid of men, but crowds of panting, sweating ones surrounding her still makes her nervous. She reaches into her bag for a damp towel but OMG she's forgotten it. Yumi, being the good girlfriend that she is, volunteers to go get the cold compress from Sachiko's other bag.
7. Yumi is taking a very long time getting the towel and Sachiko begins to get worried and orders Yuuki to go search for Yumi. She literally orders him, and it is crazy sexy cool. Anyway, eventually Yumi finds her way back to the festival grounds but there's a catch. She's dressed in a giant Panda suit. However, Sachiko sees the giant Panda running through the crowd and immediately whispers "Yumi". Then, despite her fear of heights, she climbs down from the scaffold on her own and runs out into the crowd hugging Yumi to her body, falling down to her knees with relief finding Yumi safe.
I never thought that a girl hugging someone in a Panda suit could be romantic, but I was WRONG! Seriously, it is like the sweetest most romantic thing ever, as they cling to each other in this large crowd whispering to each other with Yumi in the Panda suit.
I cannot express my love for Yumi/Sachiko. So awesome.
Also, for you Sei fans, she makes a very cute cameo this episode! And yes, Sei is still obsessed with draping herself all over Yumi at every given opportunity :D
