The new 'Bionic Woman' preview

Plot: Struggling as a bartender and surrogate mom to her teen-aged sister, Jaime Sommers didn't think life could get much harder. But when a devastating car accident leaves her at death's door, Jaime's only hope of survival is through a cutting-edge, top-secret technology that comes at a hefty price.

With a whole new existence and a debt to repay, Jaime must figure out how to use her extraordinary abilities for good, while weighing the personal sacrifices she will have to make. Ultimately, it's Jaime's journey of self-discovery and inner strength that will help her embrace her new life as...The Bionic Woman.

Preview Comments: The editing for the preview is kind of cheesy at points, but despite that the show actually looks pretty cool. I can't help but make a "Michelle Ryan is no Lindsey Wagner" comment (although in Ryan's defenseit's hard to be as hot as the Wagner ... see *fondly remembers teenage girl!crush*) but she looks like she can be pretty bad-ass, and she does an awesome 'almost cry'.

Plus, Katee 'motherfrakking' Sackhoff shows up in the trailer as Jaime's nemsis, the first bionic woman. And in true 'motherfrakking' Sackhoff style, she manages to make the "ta-da" completely awesome!

They show also stars, Miguel Ferrer, Molly Price, Mark "Badger/Romo Lampkin" Shepard, and Mae "Anne Beal" Whitman doing a very good, as Joy from "My Name as Earl" would put it, "deaf accent".

All in all, this show looks like it might not suck elephant cock (yeah, I'm looking at you PKJ! Getting my hopes up only to stab me in the heart every week!!!)

Wow, did I detect a hint of deaf-sibcest in that promo? 0_0

*will be watching this show now*

LOL! You are awesome. I totally thought the same thing. I spotted hate!sex potential between Jaime and Starbuck, and then I was totally feeling the sibcest when Jaime crawled into bed with deaf-Anne. Also, deaf-Anne's "you left me" totally spoke of a love that dare not speak it's name for her older sister.

And you know if there's even the hint of sibcest I'm there ;)

So how long is it going to take before fandom explodes with Jaime/Sarah fanfic?

Omg, yes. Sibcest ftw. But deaf sibcest? For the FUCKING PWNING ALL TIME WIN.

[Joy]Deaf accents[/Joy] totally turn me on. *is ridiculous*

Could be good, but the "OHMIGAWD HOW COULD YOU SAVE MY LIFE AND GIVE ME SUPERPOWERS YOU WHORE!" could get old fast. Really, superhero fiction, we do not need to have angst every five seconds. Cut it out.

NBC won't let me watch the trailer but I caught a couple of preview clips on YouTube and it looks good - well, Jaime and Starbuck fighting it out looked good. But did they have to cast Michelle 'Zoe from EastEnders' Ryan? It would be hard enough for anyone to fill the lovely Ms Wagner's shoes (I had a bionic woman doll as a kid and the devotion has never died) but now I'm going to expect her to suddenly scream 'You're not my mother!' every time it starts to rain.

Gah!! So many mixed emotions!! I mean, sure, I'm totally going to be there and watch the Hell out of it. But this looks soo, I don't know, like an emo version of Jake 2.0. That and I can already tell it's going to take awhile to warm up to Michelle Ryan. She just looks so... milquetoast. Dammit, it's not like Jill Wagner's doing anything these days!! But there's always Bionic Starbuck bringing the HoYay! like nobody's business.

Fortunately, it looks like the boyfriend dies in the pilot. Which is good because while getting superpowers is cool and everything, having the procedure done by your overly invested boyfriend while you're unconscious and can't give consent is *totally* creepy.

Hopefully it doesn't go all PKJ, but at least we have Starbuck bringing a certain level of badassness. I am a bit worried about Michelle though. It's almost like she's concentrating so much on getting her accent right that she isn't really acting. Just because she's the good girl doesn't mean she has to be timid.

It could well be good but it'll need a few brilliant arcs in the first season to keep people entertained. After all, it's a concept that was done to death 30 years ago and it's going to be competing with Heroes and PKJ in the genre. I wish them both the best but i fear it wasn't a great move for either of them.

From good to gooder!

[Joy]Deaf accents[/Joy] totally turn me on.

They turn Jaime on too, especially when it's her sister ;)

Um, based on the gayrific meeting at the bar that was hinted at in the preview, and the hate!sex fight in the rain on the rooftop, and Starbuck Katee Sackhoff in the mix, I'm guessing ... after the first episode ;)

Totally agree. Mopey people with awesome powers bug. I'm slightly comforted by the fact that Jaime was all "I'm awesome, what are you going to do about it, bitch?" while still confined cause it hints that she starts to embrace the power early on, and the fact that she starts training herself in the pilot also makes me think that she'll probably be a bit proactive. There was a fair about of 'almost-cry' faces, and Lifetime movie angst hinted at though, but hopefully they just played that up for the preview and its not a HUGE component of her character.

it looks good - well, Jaime and Starbuck fighting it out looked good.

Yeah, the fight looked good. I'm hoping that this show will lead to some awesome f/f fight scenes that I haven't seen on tv since Alias got canceled. If Jaime/Sarah is half as awesome as Syd/Anna I'll be in love. Hopefully Katee will have a bigger role that Gina Torres did on Alias (though I doubt it since she's returning as Starbuck to BSG)

But did they have to cast Michelle 'Zoe from EastEnders' Ryan?

I don't really have any idea who Michelle Ryan is, I've never seen EastEnders, but I'm not really thrilled with her casting. I kind of spent the trailer thinking "This would be so cool ... with another actress". I won't say it was horrible casting yet, but its interesting in a way I'm not convinced is good.

*sigh* Jessica Biel, why did you have to forsake television?

Yeah, the emo in the trailer didn't really win me over. I really don't want her to be on the verge of crying every 5 seconds. I mean, I think I could deal with the emosity in the first few episodes as she adjusts to the change, but it better not be an on-going trend. I am slightly comforted by the fact that Jaime did display so sass and badassness in the preview and that she could get over her angst by pummeling people!

That and I can already tell it's going to take awhile to warm up to Michelle Ryan. She just looks so... milquetoast.

Totally agree with you. I wasn't thrilled when I first heard the casting news, and having seen the trailer I'm not sold. I don't think she's a horrible actress or anything, she just doesn't seem like Jaime Somers to me. I mean off the top of my head I could think of people I would have much rather seen in the role.

-Rachel Nichols would have been absolutely perfect for the role. Perfect. In fact the thought of it makes me a little misty eyed.

-Jessica Biel would have been an awesome choice if she hadn't forsaken television (damn you, 7th Heaven!!!).

-If they really wanted a bionic WOMAN, Dina Meyer would have been awesome, and made emo hot.

-Kristin Lehman of the recently departed Drive I think would have been an awesome Jaime.

-Hell, Maggie Grace would probably have been decent and been more along the line of Wagner-ish Jaime.

I mean, you could probably throw any name at me and I find them better in theory than Ryan.

But there's always Bionic Starbuck bringing the HoYay! like nobody's business.

That's something to look forward to at least. The HoYay was already rocking in the preview so I can't wait to see them bring the hate!sex energy.

Fortunately, it looks like the boyfriend dies in the pilot. Which is good because while getting superpowers is cool and everything, having the procedure done by your overly invested boyfriend while you're unconscious and can't give consent is *totally* creepy.

Word. Just word. *shudders*

Well, I'd be fine with this if her name wasn't 'Jamie Sommers'. Just the newest, niftiest bionic woman. With Lindsay Wagner's Jamie still being the original from which they all follow. That way, LW could show up once in a while to lend a hand and show these kids a thing or two. And giving me much sentimental happiness.

There's no Oscar, no Rudy, totally new backstory... so why make Michelle Ryan try to fill someone else's shoes. She'd be much better off being her own unique character.

Though I won't miss all of proto-Jamie's crying. Or Lee Major's singing that Jamie song. That needs to never happen again.

ITA. I'm guessing TPTB thought they could catch lightening in a bottle after the success of BSG. But, unlike BSG, this doesn't really look like a revisionist version of BW as much as 'A Bionic Woman for the New Millenium'. I just wish I could warm up to the lead a bit more.

Or, you know, Bigfoot!

And why the Hell isn't this show out on DVD!?!

Bring on the Fembots though!

And why the Hell isn't this show out on DVD!?!

I know. Since I have a region-free player (so I can watch my Bad Girls and Torchwood), I picked up Bionic Woman Seasons 1 & 2 from Amazon UK. Why do the British have BW and we don't?
