fembuckSo, I just got back from Transformers and it was not the complete and utter mess that I was anticipating based upon the trailers (which I didn't think were that great).
In fact I pretty much enjoyed it!
This is not a deep movie, this review will be short.
- The transformations are really cool, though the transformer fights were a little shaky and it was hard to make out what was happening or who was who some of the time.
- There is much eye candy:
Megan Fox, who I never really thought was hot (or could act) based on the promos, but who proved to be pretty hot, and a decent actress. Also, Mikaela wasn't just a damsel in distress and she got to kick much ass in her own right which I liked. Yeah, she got dragged into the situation because of Sam, but she held her own.
Rachael Taylor as Computer Analyst Barbie ... um, I mean ... nah, I'll stick with Computer Analyst Barbie. Actually I liked CAB, she was smart, determined, and had an Australian accent and a sweet tattoo.
Josh Duhamel as Perfect Handsome Soldier. He was pretty much a Perfect Handsome Soldier with a wife and baby at home that he was fighting to get back to, even, but ... pretty. His character made me think of "Army Wives", cause he was totally an Perfect Handsome Soldier like Trevor and Michael and Frank and that made me like his character even more because I like "Army Wives".
Shia did a good job. Yeah, I know he's in like every other movie being released for the next year, but whatever. I like the kid, and he's [grandma voice]becoming quite the handsome young man[/gv].
- It was pretty funny. It was action movie comedy but it was well done. I laughed at the parts I was supposed to laugh at, and now that I'm thinking about it there weren't really any insanely dumb moments that made me laugh at the horribleness of it. In fact I even liked Anthony Anderson and I usually can't stand that guy.
The glasses thing was ridiculous though.
- There was a cameo from a Buffy cast member (Tom Lenk aka Andrew for those of you wondering) which was cool. Though not once did he hilariously draw out the word 'cru-el', gaze longingly at another man, or say that decepticons taste funny.
- The relationship between Sam and Bumblebee was actually really touching. I was rooting for those two to make it. The Mikaela/Sam relationship was also handled well. I really appreciated that they didn't have them kiss as they said goodbye in the middle of an exploding city like pretty much every action movie ever does. I was anticipating it, and like "and now's when they kiss at the worst possible moment" and then they were all like "bye good luck" and went to kick ass separately and I was like "awesome"! I mean, of course they do get together, but the lack of the kiss at the worst possible moment actually made happy that they got together later on (and that is so not a spoiler because there's no way that they WEREN'T going to get together).
- I can't believe they managed to kill off the one Autobot that was clearly voiced by a Black actor (you can tell because his name was "Jazz" and he talked like a real hep cat). It's like 'dammmmmmn'. Tyrese survived though so I guess that's something.
- 'Twas a tad long. I blanked out for a couple minutes near the end ... I think I missed some shit blowing up, but there's plenty of that so I'll be okay.
So, yeah, overall a pleasant mindless viewing experience. If you watched the cartoon growing up, and like action movies and pretty people I would totally recommend it.

I'm going away in a couple days though so if they keep airing new episodes I'll probably miss reviewing 2 or 3 of them. Though it's likely I'll feel the need to rant when I do watch them, so the review will just likely be weeks late :D
