It's better for everyone this way ...

SCI FI Channel is pulling the plug on "Painkiller Jane," says The Hollywood Reporter.
The action-hero series starring Kristanna Loken is wrapping production on its 22-episode first-season order, which will run as planned. Sixteen episodes have aired so far, with the season/series finale slated for Sept. 21
Based on the comic book of the same name, "Jane" centers on top DEA agent Jane Vasco (Loken), a woman with regenerative powers who joins a covert government agency that hunts down "neuros," people with neurological powers.
The last episode that aired was an "it's all a dream episode" as well as a clip show. *shakes head* It's the merciful thing to do now, for the viewers (all 5 of us left) AND everyone involved with the show. Seriously, this is like the first cancellation I'm relieved by.
I'll miss seeing Kristanna every week, but hopefully she'll get another show for next season. And I never thought I'd say this, but I'm ready to see her NOT playing a superhero (unless Sarah Connor Chronicles needs TWO Terminatrix's. Then Kristanna could be the evil hate!sex bot and Summer could be the Schoompy!Snuggle!bot who gets into sexy fights to save Sarah from Kristanna).
Let's hope for a a doctor, a lawyer or a cop show (this includes forsenic/crime scene investigation shows)... or if it's a mid-season replacement show based on this years theme she might end up playing an alien, a vampire, a various other type of immortal or a hapless fool who finds herself in a position of great importance. Mostly though, I hope she can joins "Women's Murder Club" with Angie Harmon so I can go ahead and swoon from the overpowering amount of sexy.

Date: 2007-08-15 06:33 pm (UTC)Yeah, now if they can only do the same thing to Flash Gordon! I never thought I'd see a show on SciFi that is *worse* than PKJ.
And I never thought I'd say this, but I'm ready to see her NOT playing a superhero..
I don't know. KL reminds me in alot of ways of Yancy Butler, where she just has such a strong physical presence that action roles are the best for her. I still snicker at her being cast opposite Shane on TLW because she looked like she would crush Shane at any moment. But, I totally second putting her on 'Women's Murder Club'!

Date: 2007-08-15 07:01 pm (UTC)Worse than PKJ?!? Surely that's some sort of horrible joke! I've got a copy of Flash Gordon downloaded but I haven't watched yet. *sigh* At least I know what I'll be getting myself into now, though I have to admit the promo material made me think of Mutant X, only with enough female cast members for Les!yay, and no Vicky Pratt to stare at.

Mmm, Yancy Butler ... ... ... oh, yes where was I? I know what you mean, for some reason Kristanna just seems larger than life even though there are other actresses around out there around her height, for some reason she just seems like a warrior. I think that presence could work well on a cop show, or even with her playing a lawyer, because in both though jobs you need to kick ass, even if you don't always do it physically. The sci-fi/action genre is just so iffy, that I'd like to see Kristanna delivering decent dialogue in scripts that make sense. I think she has a really charming screen presence and I'd like to see her actually get a chance to do some real acting.
But, I totally second putting her on 'Women's Murder Club'!
Oh, how glorious it would be. I mean, Angie would win the smoky voice competition, but it would be a battle I would lovingly turn into each week. Plus, Angie can bring the subtext and so can Kris so that would be delightful as well. To bad this is all in my mind only!

Date: 2007-08-15 07:11 pm (UTC)This really is like the only merciful thing to do. The show went from being 'not entertaining' to downright enraging, and after the last episode (a.k.a. The 'It's all a dream' clip show) I just started to feel sad. I mean I can't comprehend how a show could drop to that level of desperation only 16 episodes in. I don't think they would have been able to produce another season. They've used up every sci-fi cliche already except for the Groundhog Day episode (which I'm sure is coming up).
*shakes head* Terrible

Date: 2007-08-15 07:29 pm (UTC)Although Terminatrix showing up to try to seduce Cameron back to the Skynet Side of the Force would be pretty awesome. If low on dialogue. Perhaps an interpretive dance...

Date: 2007-08-15 08:10 pm (UTC)BoP wasn't as bad as some naysayers make it out to be. Certainly no worse than first season (or seasons 1-5) Smallville. Hell, if friggin' Roswell (which I loved in all of its glorious awfulness) could get *three* seasons, BoP could have at least gotten one!

Date: 2007-08-15 08:52 pm (UTC)Blade, Firefly, Birds of Prey (yes, I actually enjoyed BOP more than PKJ), they all got about thirteen episodes. Drive got four. Wasted potential.
You've just listed so many of the reasons that I hate network television. *sigh* I loved all of those shows.
rimstone too! Brimstone was awesome
I never saw Brimestone, I think I was pretty young when it came out and the commericials scared me, but I heard good things about it. But, I'll add Space: Above and Beyond, The Inside, and Wonderfalls to the list of shows that got shafted 13 episodes in (well, S:AAB got a full season, but still! It was genius)
*is depressed again*

Date: 2007-08-15 10:25 pm (UTC)THAT'S where I recognize her from! Thanks :D I couldn't quite place her without Corinne's unique fashion and make-up sensibilities.
I know that Blood Ties is coming back, and really if I were Gina, even though Flash Gordon is a bigger role, I'd put my money on Blood Ties because I don't see Flash Gordon lasting long. BT has got some legs, I think the rating were pretty good for its first run, and it's likely to keep her employed longer if she sticks with it.

Date: 2007-08-16 03:29 am (UTC)Still, I love your TSCC idea, so long as Sarah gets Cameron in the end *g* (God, it hasn't even started and I've gone all shippy already)
And I'm another who loved BoP - except for their strange habit of trying to give Barbara and Helena male love interests, when they were obviously together - and I'm sure if it had been about three men, the show would still be on the air.

Date: 2007-08-16 06:27 am (UTC)*thinking, thinking, thinking* No, no I don't think she's ever been in anything that was genuinely good. I kind of liked Mortal Kombat: Conquest cause it was campy as hell, but no, she hasn't really been in anything that I would admit to watching or recommend to others (unless of course it's to say, "It's sooooo bad, you've got to see it to understand how bad it is!")
Still, I love your TSCC idea, so long as Sarah gets Cameron in the end *g* (God, it hasn't even started and I've gone all shippy already)
Lokinator's role would just be there to showcase the true love between Sarah and Cameron, what with Cameron fighting to protect her woman, and Sarah helping to patch up Cameron's wounds by firelight (I don't care if they're living in a house now, I'm sure it has a fire place!), and then Cameron ultimately overcoming grave injury when Sarah is put in immediate danger. It would be a terribly romantic storyline, and would involve many attractive ladies fighting and gazing at each other tenderly.
except for their strange habit of trying to give Barbara and Helena male love interests, when they were obviously together
I know right! I mean, anyone who saw the pilot for that show and didn't immediately think that Barbara and Helena were a couple ... well, they must not have watched the pilot of the show if they think that. And the writers kept trying to convince us that they were straight, but everything about them screamed couple. I mean they were even raising a rebellious teenager together. *give the hand to the producers*
and I'm sure if it had been about three men, the show would still be on the air.
It enrages me that this is likely true. The sci-fi/action genre is still very much a boys club.

I think you can replace 'the sci-fil/action genre' with 'the world', which really makes me steam.
