Update:  Gossip Girl picked up for a full season!  source

Okay, so I just got finished watching Gossip Girl 1x04 - Bad News Blair (I love you today Canada!) and that was seriously some of the best TV ever.

Okay, that probably overstating it, but that's how I feel at the moment.  Obviously I'm coming from a place of extreme Serena/Blair (aka Waldsen) bias, but it was absolutely glorious.

I seriously cannot even express how awesome this episode was for the Serena/Blair relationship.  That clip I based my fic Real Talk on, was only the tip of the Waldsen ice-berg in this episode.  I'm really too deliriously happy to even think straight.

After the disappointment that was Heroes last night, I totally needed this.

Oh, there was also a lot of Chuck/Nate shippiness, and general Nate gayness in this episode as well.

What I loved

Blair:  She didn't even wake me up.  She likes you more than me.

Blair:  It's called Nolita, not No Shower

Blair: (to Dan) What are you doing here?  Do I smell pork?  And Cheese?

Serena: She'd love to!
Blair:  I would?

Isabelle or Kati:  I think this is my best pose
Isabelle or Kati:  That's because you can't see what you look like

Blair:  Who dare interrupt the Van Der Woodsen as she teaches?

Serena:  ... you look amazing!
Blair: I know.

Serena: You need to loosen up a bit
Blair:  Help me!  Help me!
Serena:  Be a tiger!  Roar Roar
Blair:  Roar Roar
Serena: Let's do something crazy, like Britney with the umbrella
*crazy motions and giggling and gorgeousness*
Serena:  Be Posh Spice in coming to America.  *crazy motions*
*Serena does Mr. Roboto motions*
Blair:  That's cyborg spice! (Blair repeats robot motions anyway)

Serena: (canceling on Dan to be at the photo shot with Blair)   It's important to her and she's important to me.

Chuck: (to Nate)  Let's go.  You can think about your boyfriend inside.  [Oh jealous Chuck, you are so gay]

Blair:  My modeling career is over faster than Jessica Simpson's acting one.

- Dan's description of Blair, which included the phrase "95 pound ball of girly evil".  I mean the whole rant on Blair is hilarious even if I love Blair.

- Chuck's basketball outfit

- Blair's mom tucking her in like a little girl.

- Blair's sleeping mask

- Blair smiling and happy

- Dan and Blair's heart to heart in the hallway

- Chuck coming to Nate's rescue like a knight in shining armour to Nate's damsel in distress.

- Blair turning her face in disgust and muttering 'ugh' when Serena kissed Dan's check.

- Blair and Serena making up at the end and HUGGING including a back rub (second best hug ever after the Octavia/Servilia hug on Rome) and then running off for a day of fun together doing an impromptu shoot across the city (and sticking it to Mrs. Waldorf while they were at it)

- Blair kissing Serena's cheek.

Gossip Girl VO:
No that's not a tear in my eye.  It's just allergies.  [Not even Gossip Girl herself can resist their adorableness]

Things that Broke my Heart

- Oh Gossip Girl, you break my heart!  I knew the photographer was going to want Serena to be the model instead of Blair the moment Serena started to help Blair, but when it happened *sob*  *clutches heart*  Blairbear, I lurve you.

- Blair's brave face

- Serena and Blair fighting.  Serena desperate for Blair to understand (and it really not being her fault this time), and Blair despondent and angry because she's always second fiddle and there just doesn't seem to be anything she had do about it.

- Blair:  Because you take everything from me!  Nate, my mom!  You can't even help it, it's who you are!

- Serena's face after Dan basically called her a spotlight hog as well.

Serena:  Look Dan, Blair's mom basically tricked me into coming here because she didn't want Blair.  How do you tell your best friend that?

- Blair confronting her mother and realizing what a horrible person she is.   For example:  "As my daughter I knew you'd forgive me ... eventually.  But if I had lost my company because of you, I never would have forgiven myself"

Yeah, that was pretty much the best hour I've seen on TV this week.

I have to echo everything you said. I was worried that this silly thing would come between Waldsen, after they just patched up their relationship, and I'm thrilled it's made it even stronger. I think what the writer's are showing us is that Serena and Blair are both invested in this relationship. They're both screwed up and they both have screwed up, but at the end of the day, they love each other.

And Leighton continues to break my heart with her perfect portrayal of Blair.

Yeah, that was pretty much the best hour I've seen on TV this week.

Without a doubt. *whispers to Dirty Sexy Money "I love love you boo, and Patrick/Carmelita is my second favorite new TV couple, but Waldsen OWNS me"*

I was worried that this silly thing would come between Waldsen, after they just patched up their relationship

I was SO worried that this is where it was going. After the initial fight like everything around me ceased to exist as I watched in a state of terror afraid they were going to take away the Waldsen just as it was truly beginning to blossom. I was so happy when they patched things up, and really even made steps forward by addressing thing that were under the surface. Seriously, these girls cannot stay away from each other. It's true love.

They're both screwed up and they both have screwed up, but at the end of the day, they love each other.

So true. I love that about them, it makes their relationship so sweet and special. You can just feel how much they mean to each other and need each other. I found Blair's "Help me! Help me!" and her telling Serena she needed her so touching. They make me all sappy and inspire me to type things like "they complete each other" which is so true!

And Leighton continues to break my heart with her perfect portrayal of Blair.

Leighton has really surprised me. I think she's phenomenal as Blair. As totally got me all emotion at several points during the epsisode. I expected to love Blake, but Leighton has really emerged as the surprise star for me. She makes Blair so human, and vulnerable and lovable. Like that scene where she was being tucked in, Blair was like a little kid and so cute, and it was well played as the temptress/bitch/queen bee we've seen before.

P.S. LOVE the icon. So awesome!

I am definitely heading back to the TV after this to rewatch the ep and let it really sink in... And I love your icon, too!

The end totally surprised me, in a very good way. I wasn't expecting them to end up in SUCH a good place, laughing and having fun and taking pictures together. So, so cute. And the Bleighton chemistry completely shined through.

Like you, I expected to love Blake. I enjoyed her in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and I grew up loving her sister Robyn. But Leighton was a complete surprise, and my favorite discovery in a very long time.

Is Dirty Sexy Money good? I have the eps saved on the DVR but I haven't gotten around to watching yet.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting such an awesomely happy end to the episode either. When Blair came up to the roof and they made up, I was like "yeah, they better have made up writers if you didn't want me to break my foot off in your ass!" and then when Blair made that 'ugh' noise and turned her head away from Serena when she kissed Dan I was totally charmed (I doubt Leighton had to act at all in that moment, lol) and I thought that would be it and was happy. But what came next just left me grinning like an idiot!

But Leighton was a complete surprise, and my favorite discovery in a very long time.

I'm so proud of Leighton. She's really grown as an actress and she's completely knocking the ball out of the court as Blair. It's a beautiful thing to see.

I really like it. Other than Gossip Girl, it's the only new show that I HAVE to watch. The acting is great, the characters are a hilarious (even the unlikeable one's, seriously Brain has made "I hate you" like the funniest line ever), and it's got my second favorite TV couple right now in Senatorial Candidate Patrick (Billy Baldwin) and his transgender lover Carmelita (Candis Cayne ... who is so gorgeous). Plus, the twins, and Karen and ... yeah, it's a good show.
