Gossip Girl continues to be very satisfying.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Gossip Girl writers! The promo monkey's at CTV had me freaking out about this episode thinking that it was going to be the downfall of the Serena/Blair friendship and the Waldsen love affair. So I'm happy to report that the CTV previews were completely misleading and their was no Waldsen fall out.
The girls started out the episode lounging in Blair's bed in slinky nightgowns. Blairdeclared her love declared her absolute trust in Serena *awwww* and declared that she wanted Serena to be her number one lady-in-waiting - which I'm pretty sure means that Serena is her number on ho. Serena was all like "You have ladies now?" all jealous-like. You know she thought that she was Blair's only ho, but now knows that she's just her favorite ho!
I don't think another episode could be as gay as "Bad News Blair", but I loved this opening and Serena's 'ew, really?' face and tone whenever Blair was talking about Nate. And I loved that the only time Blair actually seemed happy about something it was when she was talking about trusting Serena, and wanting Serena to be her lady-in-waiting, and the last guard of her virtue and whatnot.
They is so cute together!
In non-Waldsen news...
If I didn't think Nate was idiot before I certainly do now! Dude had Blair literally waiting for him ready to rip off her clothes and satisfy his ever desire and instead of going to her and ravishing her he hung out by the punch bowl all night. No, seriously, he did.
But it did allow for the totally awesome scene where Blair dumped his ass. He was all trying to get into the car to go back to her place or whatever, and she was like "you coulda had all this, but you stayed by the punch all night, so I'm gonna walk away real sexy like and show you what you coulda had but can't cause you were too thirsty!"
And this dumping of Nate (please let it be an actual dumping of Nate) makes me happy for me (because I didn't have to see B/N sexin'), makes me happy for Blair (because really she deserves better), and makes me happy for Waldsen (because now they can be gay for each other without the "Nate thing" hanging over their heads).
I did feel bad for Nate with the situation with his Dad and the position he was put in at the end of episode. The indignant and trapped look on his face at the end was perfect. Seriously, Nate's dad (aka Capt'n) is a totally ass hole. The only thing I liked about the Capt'n scenes was his wife (because she plays Frobisher's wife on Damages, and Damages is awesome!) and his wife's diamond-ring courtship of Eleanor.
Lily and Rufus were pretty much love this episode. I'm really enjoying them. It helps that they're both so very pretty. It's like my crushes of the 90s coming together on screen and making out. Wait, what do I mean "like"? It IS my crushes of the 90s coming together and making out on screen. How Lily still even want to look at Bart let alone touch him when Rufus and his fine self are all over her, I will never understand.
Also, Rufus is much more of smooth-talker than Dan. Dan could definitely pick up some tips from the old man. Rufus' little speech to Lily about how Bart doesn't deserve her was swoon worthy.
Lily and Serena's little mother-daughter scene was really cute too.
And finally ... THERETURN APPEARANCE OF VANESSA!
I really liked Vanessa and (shallow viewing alert! Shallow viewing alert!) the actress who plays her is ridiculously pretty. Even was Serena was like "that girl is fit!". Seriously, Dan has the good taste in the womens.
The only downside was that Vanessa's appearance made Serena all mopey, and I don't like Serena mopey. I like Serena happy, and radiant, and laughing and magnetic and charming. She was very mopey this episode. NO MORE OF THAT! Or at least don't concentrate it all in one episode!
I'll say, that Dan redeemed himself by the end of the episode by untangling the web of LIES he'd been weaving for most of the episode.
I also appreciate that Vanessa wasn't made out to be a horrible shrill bitch that came back to ruin Dan's life, or that she wasn't set up to be a foil who is obviously lesser than the amazing Serena in every way. I'd actually probably rather hang out with Vanessa than Serena *dodges tomatoes* Plus I love the way she enters rooms: //Come to my window/Crawl inside, wait by the light/Of the moon/Come to my window/I'll be home soon...//
Also, Little J continues to try and morph herself into Queen B. Watching Jenny's transformation is going to be fun. Also, I LOVED how she got revenge on Chuck. He totally had it coming. I've got to say I loved his mask though, it was perfect for him in the same way that Nate's was totally melodramtic and emo just like him.
Overall, a good episode. Not as awesome as "Bad News Blair" and "Dare Devil", but a good way to spend an hour!
