Damn you horrible high school English exam's that have crushed and exhausted me! DAMN YOU! *cries*
I was napping and missed the first ten minutes of "Blair Waldorf must Pie" *sobs* Still, I saw most of the episode and it was le awesome :D
...but apparently I only missed Blair and Serena fighting so ... whatever (there was TONS of Waldsen goodness later in the episode though!)
First thing, FLASHBACKS EQUAL LOVE! The flashbacks to the Waldorf Thanksgiving from the previous year were great. I mean, in a way they were tragic, but it was really great to see what things were like in the past. Blake was great in the flashbacks and it was interesting to see Alcoholic!Serena. Kudos to Blake, because she made Serena very magnetic and you could totally see why people would fall under her drunken spell, but at the same time it was really sad to see her so out of it, and how everyone was all "must be a weekday, Serena's drunk again" about it. That being said, the water-fight threesome in the bathroom was really cute.
Also, the flashbacks were great because BLAIR WAS SMILING. Blair was smiling so much. She pretty much didn't stop smiling. And everyone knows how I feel about Leighton!smiles. Leighton!smiles > almost any other smile out there. Seeing the Waldorf family all talking together and interacting with each other, especially Blair and her Dad being so close, was awesome and really underscored how much Blair's life has changed, how much duller and colder it became. She and Nate were even cute in the flashbacks which is like WHAT?
The van der Woodsen's are love. Seriously, I totally love them as a family. And for some reason I found Serena kind of cradling Lily and petting her hair when Lily was pretending she was sick to be really cute. They're not perfect, but they totally love each other and that's awesome. Seeing the flashbacks too, you realize how nice it must be for Lily to have Serena be present and focused and there, instead of in her smiley drunken world of smelling like a brewery.
And while we're on the subject of familial love, I was to say that I spent most of the episode wanting to kick Eleanor in the crotch and rip out her hair. Especially when she taunted Blair about the pie after we learned earlier in the flashbacks that Blair had an eating disorder a few years before. I was about to just write Eleanor off as being the worst person ever, but ... they kind of redeemed her. *shakes head* It's true. I actually felt bad for Eleanor at the end of the episode, and I got a little teary when Blair hugged her and they had their little moment of mother/daughter bonding in the Closing-Montage-of-Awww. Their last couple of scenes were actually pretty interesting because Blair is totally a mini-Eleanor. The way the handle problems is very similar, which is to say they try to shut down emotionally and become vicious, bitchy asshats to the people that love them most. (Also interesting, was that Eleanor totally knew Papa Waldorf was into dudes and loved him and was happy with him anyway. Like they had an arrangement were he would fool around, get it out of his system and then they'd go back to be a happy family.)
Onto the WALDSEN! I love that even after Serena and Blair fight, and Blair bitchily uninvites Serena from her Thanksgiving party, that when she needs someone to talk to, that when she is feeling about as low as she can that it's Serena that she calls because she knows Serena will be there for her. And I love that Serena was all like "gotta go" as soon as she got the call, no questions, she just leaves what she's in the middle of to run to be with Blair. *swoons* That is love baby, that is love.
Seriously, Blake and Leighton have so much chemistry together, and the tactileness of Waldsen kills me. When Serena finds Blair in her bathroom and sits on the ground next to her and just like envelopes Blair in her arms immediately I was in Waldsen heaven. And Serena drawing Blair into her so that Blair's head was resting on her shoulders, and repeatedly kissing Blair on the forehead as Blair talked about what a bitch her mother is, omgsosweet. Serena is so the best girlfriend ever.
The intimacy, and love in the scene just made me smile, even though it was a sad scene for Blair. But also, I love that after cuddling with Serena, Blair was totally in a better mood and started smiling again. Like just being around Serena was enough to chase away her demons and make her feel better for a while.
Now, to address THE MOST AWKWARD DINNER PARTY EVER. Dan inviting Lily to come along with Serena and Eric to his families Thanksgiving after Blair ininvited them all was sweet and very Dan-like, and Serena's smiliness was very cute because Blake!smiles are pretty damn skippy as well.
The best part about the dinner was after Rufus and Lily's love connection was revealed and the kids promptly hid in Dan's room to escape the awkward. The "we're not related right?" conversation was hilarious. Especially Jenny pointing out that Eric's roots were very Rufus like, lol. (I know I've complained about how NOT BLONDE Connor Paolo is, so it was nice to have a reference to it ... also the flashbacks show that Eric dyes his hair, because in the Thanksgiving gone by one he was all brunette). But the best was when Blair and Serena showed up, and the van der Woodsens and Humprehey's are having a serious discussion about how grossed out they are and Blair interrupts by declaring that the really crazy thing is that there's a garage door in the middle of Dan's room. It was so random and cute. Blair also zooming in on Dan's cabbage patch doll (I LOVE that Dan has a cabbage patch doll) and Dan being all grumpy and "now I'm going to have to disinfect my doll" about it was pretty hilarious.
Also, when they all escaped to the diner to get something to eat. Blair's "It makes total sense, only someone who had completely satisfied themselves sexually in the past could have married your step-fathers" to Serena about Lily and Rufus's past cracked me up. Also, the Blair leaning over Serena's shoulder shot was just as gay as it seemed in the pictures. In fact, when Blair leaned down after thanking Serena for coming and getting her it totally looked like they were going to kiss on the lips for a second, though the cheek!kiss of barely concealed sexual tension was visually lovely as well.
Finally, the Closing-Montage-of-Awww was awwwwww. Seriously, this show owns my soul. I was all teared up and "you go fictional characters, you bond with your families and be ridiculously cute!". Seriously, I know it was cheesy as hell, but I was happy to see everybody happy/healing at the end. I'm a sap that way, and everyone on the show is so pretty when the smile.
Wow, I rambled on a lot about that, but it was such a GOOD episode. *hugs episode* That totally cheered me up.

Ed's pose is too cute in the picture. He looks like a petulant 4 year old and I love it!

and is CHOCK FULL of waldsen touching unnecessarily!

Your 'rockstar face' icon, totally compels me to add that drunken!Serena/Piiiiiie!Serena should inspire some awesome icons. She's adorable drunk, but also a handful. Also, I like her with the ability to string a sentence together, lol

And she's a handful? That makes me think of so much portective! Blair that it's ridiculous.
You'll love the flashbacks then. Protective!Blair was totally out and about around Drunk!Serena, and it was cute and totally hot. Especially in the first flashback scene. When she was putting Serena into the cab I was totally swooning (I also got a kick out of her being all like "stay here, don't move" like Serena was a dog that was likely to wander off and pee on someone's bike or something...so cute!)

Date: 2007-11-28 06:28 am (UTC)I know, it's like I don't know who the show thinks they're fooling. Everyone knows when it fades to black that Serena and Blair head straight for the bedroom/nearest flat surface/wall.
And I like to think of Serena/Blake as kind of a big enthusiastic puppy so that works for me.
Oh, I know. I love that about her. And really, she's totally just hoping around at Blair's feet begging Blair to rub her tummy all the time. She's so eager and I love it.
Plus, she certainly knows how to work the puppy dog eyes. My god, the look she gave Blair before Blair kicked her out was like "omg, Serena, bb *hugs*" Blake was working those puppy dog eyes like a mofo. Vulnerable!Serena is so hot.

Date: 2007-11-28 03:42 am (UTC)And OMG Blair has an eating disorder, and Serena's drinking is way outta control -- is anyone on this show mentally healthy??
I'm surprised there wasn't any of Chuck's family at all ...
And that picture is totally awesome :P

Date: 2007-11-28 06:02 am (UTC)Nate's mom is the new Eleanor. She's a horrible person. I felt for Nate, but not for her at all. I mean, they did manage to redeem Eleanor a bit, so Nate's mom might revel that she has a soul, but for now ... HATE!
And OMG Blair has an eating disorder, and Serena's drinking is way outta control -- is anyone on this show mentally healthy??
I know. They are so messed up. Although, Blair seems to have the eating disorder under control for the most part (I think this episode was a rare lapse), and Serena hasn't been too much of a rummy either (cocktails at the palace in the pilot aside), so they're getting better :D
I'm surprised there wasn't any of Chuck's family at all ...
Yeah, although adding him into the mix would have stretched the other story-line a little thin I think. Even though he's a main character, he's at the bottom of the list after Serena, Blair, Nate, and Dan. Plus, he seems to have a fairly good (for the Upper East side) relationship with his Dad so their wouldn't have been DRAMA!!!!! lol
And that picture is totally awesome :P
I love it. It's awesome. I hope they were actually filming when he looked like that and we'll see glowering!Chuck in an upcoming episode.

Date: 2007-11-28 08:11 pm (UTC)Like every other adult on this show, I'm guessing Nate's mum has some kind of ... deep-rooted psychological reason for being the way she is. Probably Daddy-issues, or something. She keeps reminding me of the Anne Hathaway in Brokeback Mountain (so now I keep expecting Nate's Dad to end up secretly gay, or something, but that's already been done with Blair's dad. And yeah, I think it's totally awesome that Blair's mum knows he's gay, lets him have his secret life and STILL wants him in her life. It makes me totally sad.)
Plus, he seems to have a fairly good (for the Upper East side) relationship with his Dad so their wouldn't have been DRAMA!!!!!
You know what would have been awesome? During the chaos going on for every other family in the show, to cut to Chuck and his Dad sitting around the table for like 2 seconds, eating dinner, completely calm and friendly and oblivious to any turmoil outside.
Or perhaps just asleep/stoned/drunk/out of commission in the arms of two women for the entire episode. Just as an explanation. I

Date: 2007-11-28 04:51 am (UTC)And yet, I still wonder how much is scripted and/or directed and how much is just Leighton and Blake letting themselves come through and just not having any boundaries with the touchies.

Date: 2007-11-28 06:07 am (UTC)Forehead kisses? Snuggling and cuddling? Cheek kisses?! And I thought the cheek cupping in Seventeen Candles was mind blowing. Dayum.
I know, it's awesome. I totally want Serena to sexily comfort me when I'm upset. If I was Blair, I'd just pretend to be upset all the time because Serena totally molests her whenever her eyes get a bit watery.
The cheek cupping from last week was really hot though. Really, really hot. Dayum, Blake. Dayum. You cup cheeks like a rockstar.
And yet, I still wonder how much is scripted and/or directed and how much is just Leighton and Blake letting themselves come through and just not having any boundaries with the touchies.
I think most of it is probably scripted, but Bleighton brings something extra to it. Last episode, I think it was totally Blake just getting feely, but this week I could see it being scripted. But of course, the familiarity of the touches, and the intensity with which they look at each other I think is totally Blake and Leighton shining through enhancing the closeness between Blair and Serena in the script.
*loves Bleighton*

Date: 2007-11-28 05:14 am (UTC)ejem, ok...sorry for the outburst- lost of Waldsen?? yay! that sound like another awesome episode. And yay for unnecessarily touching. Also I kind of heart the whole "fight-then make up" thing, just like on Bad news Blair. It's cute and at the same hot. I can't wait *tapping foot*
Now that you mention it, good thing they showed that Eric dyes her hair because, Connor Paolo being a brunette ( a good looking brunetter I have to say) was bother me a little like a blonde. Well, that they show him like a blonde *shrug*
lol thanks for posting that Ed's pic, he looks so adorable.

Date: 2007-11-28 06:11 am (UTC)Definitely lots of cute Waldsen moments. And in most of the scenes their hands are totally all over each other. They are so gay for each other, I don't even know why they front.
Also I kind of heart the whole "fight-then make up" thing, just like on Bad news Blair. It's cute and at the same hot.
So true. I kind of feel like they fight just so they can make up, lol. Seriously, if I was Blair I would pretend to be upset like every other day so that I could have Serena sexily comfort me. Serena in comfort mode is totally sexy, she just like touches Blair compulsively when Blair is upset. It's totally hot.
good thing they showed that Eric dyes her hair because, Connor Paolo being a brunette ( a good looking brunetter I have to say) was bother me a little like a blonde.
Yeah, Connor is SO not blonde that I found it ridiculous that they were suggesting he was (just like in Alexander, though even there he had a better dye job/wig). So, I like that Eric is actually a brunette but dyes his hair to fit in with the rest of the van der Woodsen Dutch Wonderkind, lol
lol thanks for posting that Ed's pic, he looks so adorable.
Doesn't it though? lol. I love it. I totally want to give him a hug.

Date: 2007-11-28 06:39 am (UTC)That hopelessly (sp?) it takes me to think on the Bleighton's pics we have saw over the months. I don't know why I get the feeling that Blake see Leighton like this little-very cute-adorable girl that you feel like hugging just by seeing her. Like I said I don't know why I get this vibe from Blake. So also I think that the forehead kiss on Sixteen Candles was all Blake as well.
Connor is SO not blonde that I found it ridiculous that they were suggesting he was
yep, I remember a L & O: svu episode were he was younger and a brunette. Oh , also he was a sociopath lol but he was very good on that episode, so I hope they'll give him more onscreen time in the future. And Alexander, what can I say? if it wasn't for Angelina Jolie it'd be only a bad memory for me.

Date: 2007-11-28 06:01 pm (UTC)Claire is cool but she's got that mom vibe going that's preventing me from perving (much).
But back to Gossip Girl: Loved how everybody just took it for granted that Serena would drop everything in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner to answer Blair's call.
I'm really psyched by how well written the show is in addition to the plentiful eye candy.

*Swoons at the bathroom scene where Serena finds Blair*
I don't even have words to describe how much I loved this scene. It was heartbreaking, and sweet, and cute and totally sexy. Blair and Serena should just spend all of their time cuddled in each other arms. They should just never stop touching each other. Ever.
when Blair leaves and she and Serena look at each other, you're anticipating for them to kiss on the lips.
It really looked like they were going for the lips for a second, my heart actually jumped before they shifted to the cheek. But I swear for a second they were heading straight for the lips. It's like Blake and Leighton remembered at the last minute that they weren't in Blake's trailer and had to make it PG, lol

S and B would be way more into each other than Nate, but I could totally see them including him so he didn't feel bad and because technically he's B's boyfriend. Like somehow all sleeping together would even things out or something.

Date: 2007-12-11 08:04 am (UTC)YES. Even if I'd started watching before my exposure to all that Waldsen fic out there, I would've thought they were gonna make out in that there diner anyway. The leaning, the eye!sex, the touching, and Serena watching that little bit longer as Blair leaves... they are so doing it.
And the flashbacks with S feeding B? This is the only show that makes me squee and do those fangirly hand waving things while watching. And trying (unsuccessfully) to stifle my giggling. Damn NZ tv for not having GG in the schedule already.
