An insecure tomboy, Carter works at a local bait shop after school and dreams of going to the school dance with her crush, Donny, the school hunk. Rosie quickly becomes popular at school which Carter must learn to accept but the two also form a close bond as Carter helps Rosie transform into a normal teenager and Rosie shows Carter how to find the princess within herself.

Princess Protection Program

I'm kind of in love with this movie.  This movie is like the surprised kitten video on youtube, it just makes me happy inside.  I mean it's completely ridiculous, but it's so much fun.

Nobody's gonna be winning any Oscars any time soon, but Demi Lovato and Selena were both perfectly charming in their as Rosie and Carter, respectively.  I'd seen Demi/Selena rpfs pop up every once and while, and now I understand why!  The two have really good chemistry together in this, and are highly enjoyable to watch on screen together.

Adorable, n'est-ce pas ?

Which naturally leads me to the gay.  And gay there was!  I mean, fuuuuuuuuu, this movie had the ending the ending that I wished Bitch Slap had.

Carter rocked the Lil' Butchy McFabulous vibe.  Girl had swagger, and has the voice of 20s lounge singer.   [chagrined]Sex-ay[/chagrined].  Seriously, I would have crushed on Carter so hard in High School ... and do now as well.  Snark, swagga, whiskey honey voice, willingness to touch lizards and bugs and other gross things I wouldn't want to touch, plaid cut off vest, sexy pony tail, masked heroic adventures ... *swoon*.  What's not to love?  And just in case you were wondering, she also has an infectious laugh.

What ... um ... oh yes, where was I ... ah of course, the gay!

The Oddly Perfect Couple

I loved how completely smitten Rosie was with Carter from like the first moment they met.  If I took a drink every time Rosie gazed softly and lovingly at Carter I would have had to have been taken to the hospital with alcohol poisoning.   They were just utterly and completely adorable together.  For example:

- Carter dumping ice-cream on that dilholes head to avenge Rosie
- Bonding on the swing over Rosie's ability to burp and their understanding that they're not so different after all
- Rosie's super fun, super helpful, super gay girl bonding lessons about what it means to be a princess
- And of course the "I hate you, no not like that, 'I hate you as in you're my best friend'" scene of incredible gayosity and cuteness

are just a few of the wonderful scenes between these two.

Rosie's earnestness and strength of character combined with Carter's abashed affection and dashing acts of bravery made them OTP level awesome for me.

Also, it warms my heart that in the end it wasn't a matter of neither of the girls getting boy, but of neither of the girls wanting the boy.

Granted we were a little bit tipsy when we watched this - and still may or may not be - but this was a very pleasant film.  I might find the earnestness with which I wrote this review to be highly embarrassing come morning, but I found this movie highly enjoyable and I think you just might too *nods slowly, sagely and encouragingly*

Also, I saw the Invention of Lying earlier on today and really enjoyed it.  But seeing JGar and her crazy toned arms made me really miss Alias.  *sigh*  I've got to get my hands on some Alias episodes and revel in the nostalgia.

It's hard to deny the adorableness and gayness that is Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.

The fact that I'm seeing something about Princess Protection Program here kinda makes me giggle a little. Ah Disney Channel movies always bringing the fun. I've seen the trailer for this before but never got the chance to see it. I actually really enjoy Selena Gomez on Wizards of Waverly Place. The fact that I'm 20 and still occasionally watches the Disney Channel doesn't help my situation I guess. Perhaps I will take a gander at it the next time it's on.

P.S. - I finally watched Bitch Slap from the link you sent me. I really think you are now my favorite person. Like if you wanted a sandwich I would totally make you one. For real.

LOL I watched this when it first aired with my niece. Not gonna lie I thought it was cute. It was so gay even my niece thought the two girls were going to end up together.

I never thought I'd see a post about this movie here, but since there is one, I now get to use my PP.gif (that I can't believe I saved in the first place, but whatever it cracks me up).

Uhm, the fact that this post about this movie exists on your journal has.... kinda made my life, jsyk.

Demi/Selena rpf is like, my ~fandom. And it makes me giddy to know that one of my most favoritiest people on livejournal has seen them and acknowledges the gay that is Princess Protection Program. I just - *sigh* - I can die happy.

Now, I don't know if you've felt the slight ~tingling sensation that is the desire to read fanfiction about Rosie/Carter, but if so, I must first of all recommend In Love and Politics by [livejournal.com profile] hollywood_r_bin. It' s amazing in the way that it has taken the two characters, the entire universe, actually, and fleshed it out, made it real. Also, I'm a big fan of political science, so this fic pleases me to no end.

Secondly, [livejournal.com profile] letscall_l is our resident guru on fanfiction, so if you read only two stories in this fandom ever, they should be Pride Before for fluff and Proving Otherwise for a bit of sexy smut.

And lastly.... if you feel so inclined, I'll provide a link to my PPP work-in-progress, Venomous.

In closing, you're awesome, and please, have a wonderful day.

LMAO! hahaha God, I have missed you, your posts are always so hilarious and they make me happy because usually it's really good stuff.
No need to be embarrassed btw, I surprisingly enjoyed this movie as well. Not gonna lie, I had my doubts because these days you hear Disney and can't help but think on Hanna Montana and the Jonas sisters Brothers. Just errr, no thanks. But well, like you said, now I know what all this Semy thing is all about. They are seriously so gay for each other on that movie. Or in life in general.
And omg look, the posters are also gay lol Smooth producers, really smooth.

I miss Alias everyday of my life. I do have all five seasons on dvd. The 1st disc on s1 became a scratched up mess and I had to throw it out though.

Just happened upon this post randomly and I have to say, love that you watched this movie while tipsy. That...would be highly interesting, to say the least! Saw that [livejournal.com profile] arkeis07 gave you a few fic recs, and I just wanted to add one more: "Sweet Disposition" by [livejournal.com profile] meremortal2k5. It's a completed multi-chapter fic set a couple of years after the movie ends (which, btw, plays off the DVD's alternate ending in which they become PPP agents), and it is just the most amazing thing ever. Sweet, hilarious, and sexy as well.

Oh, and about Demi/Selena RPF: the way their characters interact in the movie (the gay)...just multiply that by 5 and you get how they were IRL. Seriously, baby dykes and the most clingy BFFs ever. If you think your thing for Sel and her voice is bad now, just wait until you see/hear her when she's tired or has been crying. Very reminiscent of the awesome gravely sexy voice Gabrielle Christian from "SoN."

I don't know if y'all have Target stores where ever you live, but at my local Target, they were selling boxed sets of the first two seasons of Alias (and some other shows) for $26.98. I thought it was a pretty good deal, and bought the Buffy set :)

Also, the chances of me seeing this movie are minimal as it comes from the *shudder* Disney Channel, but I'm glad to see it's bringing the girlgay!

EDIT: Holy crap, I just realized Selina Gomez looks exactly like this girl in my English class. It's uncanny.

Hey great review hehe. This is definitely an awesomely gaytastic movie! You're definitely right about Carter being Lil' Butchy McFabulous. I totally have a crush on her too.

Just when I thought you couldn't get any more awesome than you already are, you had to go and talk about Princess Protection Program. Like everyone else has already said, that is one homo-fabulous movie. And I absolutely believe that it would've been the perfect platform for Disney to introduce a lesbian pairing, because like you said, it was pretty much unspoken canon.

I, of course, agree 100% with what you said about Carter/Selena's voice. She and Sophia Bush could read to me from a telephone book and I would be enthralled and would probably die from the sexiness of their voices. Someone posted Demi/Selena's vlog, and at 3:58-4:01, when their singing Britney's song, and Selena's looking into the camera? My god, she looked like pure sex.

Now, I know that I'm probably not the only one (I can pretty much guarantee that I'm not the only one), whose life would be made complete, if you were to write a Carter/Rosie, Demi/Selena, or any other pairing of the character's that they've played, fic.

Oh, and I just finally finished reading The Edge (I know, really behind), but I just want to say, twas amazing, and damn I was sad when I finished it. I didn't want it to be over.

I got to admit when I saw you post this review, it really surprised me. I also got to admit that I saw this when it first debut on Family Channel.

I have younger relatives that watch Family Channel, and they're guys believe it or not. Anyways they were the ones that introduced me to Selena and Demi. I think Wizards of Waverly Place is an alright show, but I actually enjoy Demi's Sonny with a Chance. [info]_dangerzone911 is right about the episode that guested Selena, it was amusing.

As most people, when I heard of Selena and Demi, I couldn't help but notice how gay those two are together. Like many, thinking of them makes me feel dirty because they're both still young and they're Disney. When they do mature and get their sex drive however, I wonder what are the odds of them becoming gay? If it could happen to former Disney child stars like Jodie Foster and Lindsay Lohan, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened to either of them.
