Lost Girl - 1x08 - "Vexed" is INSANE! 

You guys, this episode of Lost Girl was so surreal.  It's like, since the pilot there's been the actual Lost Girl and then in my mind there's been the 'Lost Girl that 'could be'.  This episode was like the Lost Girl that could be.  But it was so weird to watch because there was like no hint from the previous episodes that it was going get good like this!  CAUSE OMG THIS EPISODE. 

I've put all of my live-action reactions to the episode behind the cut as usual, but I almost want to tell you not to read it so that you can experience this ... whatever this was of an episode fresh.

Best music video opening sequence goes to Lost Girl.  It was like George Micheal's "Freedom" video up in there ya'll.  I kept on expecting to see Christie Turlington in a bathtub.  But as much as I complain about Dyson, and the over-abundance of Bo/Dyson sex scenes, I have to say this one can stay, because even though it was kind of creepy, it was also pretty hot.  Also, Lost Girl now officially features ass!

Dyson:  She's just using you.  She'll never love you.
Bo:  Who said anything about love.  And you don't know that.
Me:  Ooo ... oh.

I don't quite understand Dyson's constant complaints that Lauren is using Bo currently though, since Lauren and Bo haven't so much as kissed.  I wonder if Bo's been letting him think that she and Lauren are doing a lot more in the lab together than they are.

Dr. Hot Pants.  Hey, Kenzi we can be friends again.

Um, I kind of really like Bo when she's being a violent asshole.  In fact I like her to a worrying degree. The show definitely needs to keep Anna Silk in minimal make-out because run-down Bo was all kinds of hot.  Seriously.  Bo is coming apart at the seams in this episode, but she's never been this hot to me - not even in the pilot which was when I previously thought Bo was at her hottest.

"I like your necklace."  Nice, Bo.  I think what you really meant to say was, "Heh, I touched your boob."

Ugh, screw you poorly planned season.  This conversation with Bo and Lauren - sexy and flirty as it is - and it is, seems like it should have happened in an earlier episode, because considering how long they've been working together on Bo's control it makes no sense that Lauren wasn't already aware of Bo's arrangement with Dyson.  UGH!  Writers I see you trying to shove information in there that should have been revealed in those Dr. Lauren-free episodes from earlier in the season.

Lauren:  *upon finding out about Bo's healing arrangement with Dyson*  As your doctor I'd just prefer if you choose someone ... slightly less well-traveled.
Me:  Heh.

UGH, what is it about this episode?  I actually really like this episode and the tone of it, but it's coming out of nowhere!  Bo's so intense and angry and hot but there's been like NO build up to it whatsoever.  Last week it was all awkward dates and fun with spiders, and now all of a sudden Bo is super-super-duper-duper about finding out who her mother was right this frakking minute goddammit I will cut it out of you! 

Also, Bo and Dyson are barely even frenemies  currently but it's come out of nowhwere.  I mean, I know last week there was the Dyson/Lauren pissing contest over Bo and Dyson making his big 'No healing for you' pronouncement, but I still didn't expect that there would be THIS level of animosity between them.  It's like I'm watching another show, an intense, dark, sexy show.  I like.  I like.

Fussy!Lauren is CUTE!  She is precious when she's worrying about Bo's big-mouth getting her in trouble.

"Still so charming."  Heh.  Ash I've been sarcastically thinking the same thing about Bo for a while.

"I'm not finished yet!"  OH BO!  WHY ARE YOU SO SEXY WHEN YOU ARE ANGRY, BLOODY, AND VENGEFUL?

"Smells like fried bitch!"  OH KENZI!

OMG!  BO is such a MEGA-bitch this episode.  It's like she's on PMS steriods.  It's awesome. 

So that conversation with the Ash and Lauren was interesting:
1)  I'm glad it's established here that Lauren has been completely on the up and up so far with what's she's told Bo and in terms of trying to help her.
2)  I don't like that the Ash is tryin' to pimp Lauren out.

So that conversation between Bo and Trick was interesting:
1)  I don't like that the Ash "owns" Lauren.  It does make me wonder what she did or who she pissed off enough that apparently she had to sell herself to the Ash for protection.  It does explain why she is so twitchy around him, and why Dyson is concerned about her loyalty.  As a human Lauren is obstensibly tied to the Ash more than a fae would be.

*cries*  I so don't like where I see this going ...

I like that Bo has a real reason for fighting for this woman so hard, and that it's all about her big emotional love for Lauren.  "And who would want to live it with me?"  OMG BO I WANT TO HUG YOU.

She totally did. After watching the rest of that episode Lauren's uncomfortable reaction to the touch made a lot more sense. I was like, "Why is Lauren being cagey about Bo touching her?" but I realized she probably just didn't like Bo touching her 'collar' after the episode.

Still bad-ass Bo is totally hot.

Badass Bo is smoking. I really wish that we were in for more hot, angry Bo, instead of lackluster!Bo.

It was absolute torture having to wait for this episode and not spoil myself by reading your journal. Thankfully I've finally watched the episode and my mind is blown!

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but I feel like this episode was filmed out of order. It looked like Anna's hair was slightly shorter (which I liked). She looked a lot like when I first saw her making out with another pretty lady in Being Erica *yum*. Even Ksenia was working her curly, blonde hair.

Anna really brought it in this episode. I wasn't cringing over her acting this time around. So it's nice to know when the writing is good, Anna can deliver. And she looked so damn good!

Lauren just got so much more interesting. We have like what 5 more episodes left of the season? I seriously hope she makes it and that they make her a regular in season 2 because I want to know Lauren's story dammit. I mean we know she's a smart woman. So it can't just be that she's so insatiably curious that she would allow herself to be owned.

And I hope Bo isn't mad at Lauren for long. Hopefully Bo will just need some time to cool off so that she can realize that Lauren was just trying to keep her safe. It's not like Lauren has been keeping things a secret from the start, like someone else we know. And it is so damn obvious that Dyson knows more than he is letting on, but Bo never presses. Which makes her look so stupid.

I'm going to be keeping my fingers crossed that the rest of the season is a lot like this episode and not the previous ones.

This was actually some kind of demo pilot that had been shot for the network which is why things looked and felt a little different. It was the first thing they filmed.

Word. I'm fascinated with her, and I'm definitely hoping that they make her a regular in season 2 as well. Honestly, Lauren is what has kept me watching the show and squeeing about it, so I'd like to see a lot more of her and learn a lot more about her.

And it is so damn obvious that Dyson knows more than he is letting on, but Bo never presses. Which makes her look so stupid.


I know. Bo acts like an idiot a lot of the time though, which is why it pisses me off that the one time Bo engages her brain and puts two and two together it ends in Lauren getting screwed over.

I started to think what Lauren meant by "I just need a few more hours". Then after the dark fae lady got the lethal injection and then miraculously woke up from her body bag and there was Trick, I thought to myself, maybe Lauren needed a few more hours to work with Trick in order to figure out a way to get the dark fae lady out from prison without causing a war with the dark fae???

I don't know...pretty random thoughts. But yes, the episode was soooooooo good.

That's an interesting idea. I don't know if it would really make Bo feel better that Lauren was 'distracting' her for Trick rather than the Ash though. At least with Lauren doing the Ash's bidding, there's that whole 'he could kill her if she didn't' excuse (and the way she literally trembled and jumped around him makes me think she has quite a bit of fear of him) that will probably be what gets Bo to stop hating her eventually.

They gave us super romantic and sexy Bo/Lauren time and then took it all away again... sadistic, I call it, damn sadistic. Still, it was super fun while we had it.

I feel sorry for Lauren because she's pretty much in a no win situation; she doesn't do what the Ash says and Bo gets killed and she probably does too, but if she does it means turning herself into the Ash's whore and betraying Bo's trust. I think the girl needs a hug.

I still found Dyson annoying but I think I always will after the last few episodes (I hold a grudge).

I want to know how Lauren came to be 'owned' by the Ash.

I love that you brought Cara up in relation to Lauren, because Lauren really does make me want to hug her forever like Cara did. This show is no Legend of the Seeker, but Lauren is awesome enough that she could have been on Legend of the Seeker (and should have been Cara's new girlfriend, lol!)

See, I had to quote this entire block because.. YES!! This was the show I'd hoped LG would be but to realize that not only is the show capable of being *that* show but that was the intention from the beginning!?!

And, I'm gonna go out on a really big limb here (I know I'm just setting myself up for disappointment but still..) but I'm seriously beginning to think Bo/Lauren is the endgame. Aside from Dyson being a douche, there's no *risk* with Bo being involved with Dyson. He can handle sex with a succubus, they start dating and the Fae community will give them high fives. The only reason there's any angst in there relationship at all is because, well, Dyson's being a secretive douche.

Lauren, on the other hand, and I really liked the (not so) subtext that a big reason Bo covets her freedom so much, is the freedom to love who she chooses.. and how that choice is something to fight for. Bo chooses Lauren and both their lives are in danger.

And, oh man, that fight was like a supertanker of lemon juice poured onto a gaping wound.. just PAINFUL. I'm sure Bo will come around seeing as how Lauren's a slave and Bo really has a 'knight in shining armor' complex about the size of Texas. I'd also like to see Bo examining the Fae's relationship with humans, seeing as how they view humans as either food or pets.

Oh, and after being on the air for almost two months, AfterEllen has *finally* started recapping the show (way to stay on the ball AE). And the recaps? ARE AWFUL!!

The fact that this episode was a pilot of the show? Makes me sad and happy at the same time - like THIS is what we could be getting, but instead we have a watered-down, campier version? I mean, I like Lost Girl, but if the show had followed the direction it had intended to take, it would've been a good show as opposed to just a guilty pleasure. You know?

Totally. That's exactly how I feel. It's like I like the show, but I know it's pretty ridiculous and sloppy at times. When I saw this episode I realized that with only a few slight differences this could have been a show that I LOVED instead of just liked.

As the most people on this board, I reeaally loved Ep. 8! It was, as if they've taken the show on a whole new level: suspense, speed, emotional drama and of course: BO AND LAUREN:D!! I need to know, why Lauren is owned by the Ash! There has to be a reason... My guesses: 1. Her human family was "owned" for generations, b/c of some "guilt-issues".
2. Lauren is somehow half-Dark-Fae (and as we know, from a former episode, children of humans and Fae, have no Fae abilities)and angered someone from the dark.
3. Lauren was once in love with a Fae or had a deep family-connection to a Fae and in order to keep that person alive and out of danger/save this person, she traded herself to the Ash (o.k. most romantic version:))
She has certainly a connection with Trick, they often have a very telling eye-contact. Trick knows Lauren's story, I'm sure! And I wish, that Bo will get to know the truth about Lauren from Trick. A truth, which will make Bo understand everything about Lauren. This is IMO a much better version, then a teary Lauren in front of Bo's door. Bo won't listen anyway...she is too hurt!

I was only watching this show before with casual interest, largely due to detective douchefang and the high probability that he and Bo would end up together, but LAUREN. OH LAUREN. I AM SO INVESTED IN DR. HOTPANTS NOW. I WANT A WHOLE ARC DEVOTED TO HER BACKSTORY. ACTUALLY, THAT IS ALL I REALLY CARE ABOUT NOW. I'm a bit worried they might make a royal mess of it, but at this point all I want is MORE DR. LAUREN.

Man, it's Friday 12th and I haven't recover from this ep. I'm pathetic, really. I don't even know where to begin.

YES! It's so obvious since the beginning that this show could be so much better because there is real potential, but it felt as though the writers couldn't handle properly the different storylines. Same thing about the tone : which one to choose? campy? funny? parody? sexy? In ep. 8, the show finally finds a coherence and the storylines, instead of going their own separate way, finally rejoin and echo with each other. We're still far from perfect but as I was watching the ep. , I thought : "oh-oh, something is REALLY happening here..."

LOL ! That's funny because the promotion for the show is based on the sexual element from the beginning. Stating that Bo is a Succubus, and a bisexual one, implies that we get to see sex, sex, sex. But at the show unfolds, we see that one of the main theme is love, its unstoppable force, its inner danger.

I'm happy that the Bo/Lauren storyline is finally at the same level with the Bo/Dyson one. Lauren and Dyson have a lot in common, the more obvious being that they both "traded" their freedom for protection (even though is a lot more complicated for Lauren). I like how Bo seem to be challenging them both, forcing them to reconsider their position, their compromise. I really want this show to explore that.

I've had a really bad time late, and LG has been one of the few things getting me though, with it's wit and awesomeness and hotness. And then this week! OMFG! I needed happy! I needed resolution! And it waves happy in my face and then throws it away!

When Bo said "Nobody owns you!" I thought it was going to have the fairytale ending I needed, but noooooooooo, no it couldn't be that easy could it! I was in a state of shock, shaking my head and muttering "No, no, no." over and over. I have watched it 2 times since and neither time has made me feel any better.

Please ep 9, fix all my pain!

And it was the best ep EVER! I TOTALLY agree that season 2 needs to be just like this episode! The Bo/Lauren scene?!? Fan-freakin-tastic, and then came the tragedy. Someone mentioned how this episode kinda reminded them of Buffy season one and I just wanted to say didn't the bathtub fight chick kinda look like the first slayer? Can't wait for more LG, I am so hooked!

Oh my god I love this episode to pieces! Bo and Lauren's chemistry was awesome but I still support Team Dyson.

BTW, does anyone know what songs were played in this episode...I can't find any details about the show's music.
