I never would have guessed this in a million years but now that the announcement is here ... I kind of like it.
When I was considering Lois Amy Adams name never entered my mind, but thinking about it now that she's been cast she seems like a good fit.

Date: 2011-03-27 07:17 pm (UTC)Like most of the world, I would have loved Rachel McAdams in the role though. But other than her I never had any really set ideas for Lois which is probably making it easier to be okay with Amy's casting.

Date: 2011-03-27 07:25 pm (UTC)Agreed about Anne Hathaway as Catwoman! That came from deep left field. Who was your pick for Catwoman?

Date: 2011-03-27 07:35 pm (UTC)My ideal pick for Catwoman would have been Eva Green. Marion Cotillard was a favorite of mine too for a while. Amber Heard (http://www.wallpaperez.info/beauties/Amber-Heard-143.html) is one American actress I could have seen in the role (though she's maybe too young).
There's probably plenty of other actresses I would have been just fine with playing the role as well as long as they were mysterious and sexy. Anne is just too cute and giddy for me to see it.
Who would your choice have been?

Date: 2011-03-27 07:59 pm (UTC)I'm still holding out for Bridget Regan to be cast as Wonder Woman should that movie ever get made...hey, a girl can dream.
As for THG...do you have any preferences when it comes to casting?

I'm just glad that Bridget dodged the bullet of being cast as Wonder Woman in the new show which looks like it's gonna be a complete clusterfuck.
I would love to see her as WW on the big screen, but I'm beginning to think that movie is never gonna happen.

I love Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss.
My mental image for Peeta was Alex Pettyfer (probably because I'd seen his name tossed around so much), but I'm not really invested in him being Peeta. I don't like too many of the suggestions I've been seeing around (even Hunter Parrish though he's the least objectionable). Douglas Booth (http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/lijvaGhQ0il/2010+GQ+Men+of+the+Year+Party/cG31KYW74nR/Douglas+Booth) maybe? I just want them to cast someone who can act. I'd be perfectly happy with an unknown, probably happier.
Gale, I have no idea. I've only read the first book so I haven't seen much of him at all.
Haymitch ... I don't know. Maybe Michael Sheen. He's good in everything and is a great character actor. I don't really know who I want for this role, just that I pretty much hate the possibilities I've heard of so far so I hope this one is a surprise.
As for the others, I really have no idea. Rue's gonna be an unknown, Effie ... the sky's the limit, Prim, Katniss's mom, Tresh, Clove, Glimmer, Cato ... ???? As long as they can act, I don't care.
What are your thoughts?

I can't picture Alex in the role because I think he looks too old, and he's a little too beefy...and it's funny, I actually imagined Peeta as Hunter Parrish before all of the fan craziness surrounding him happened. But, I agree, I wouldn't mind if an unknown was cast, I'd probably prefer it as long as he could act.

Hmm, Michael could definitely pull it off. I was thinking maybe Hugh Laurie...or Philip Seymour Hoffman. For President Snow, I've heard John Malkovich's name tossed around, but I think the guy who played the Magister in True Blood, Zeljko Ivanek, could work. Maybe Kristin Chenoweth for Effie. I haven't really given much thought to the others...but on a diff note, I hope Madge and Katniss have at least a wee bit of subtext in their scenes...even though my brain will probably conjure some up anyway. lol

Date: 2011-03-27 08:11 pm (UTC)In any case, at least this isn't as jarring and WTF for me as Anne Hathaway as Catwoman.
I'm still having trouble picturing that one. It feels like Chris Nolan wasn't even trying when he made that decision. Rachel McAdams I could picture as Catwoman. Amy Adams I could picture as Catwoman. Anne Hathaway? Still having trouble there. But of course she could always surprise us. Then again Nolan's Batman always had the female lead as the weak link in the film, so maybe she won't.

Honestly, at worst I see Amy just being 'okay' in the role. She has the potential to be really good though, which is a nice.

This. I feel like Nolan really doesn't give a shit about the female characters in his films, and just casts anyone who has some buzz about them at that moment in time. So, in a way I'm glad that I didn't get my ideal actress for Catwoman cast since I'm sure the character is going to be under-written and side-lined anyway.

Date: 2011-03-28 11:45 pm (UTC)Between Amy and Anne, I think we should be more worried about Anne for two reasons.
1. Talentwise, I see Amy being the better of the two. Anne has just not completely proven herself to me yet.
2. Lois is likely going to be better written than Selina. David S. Goyer is penning the Superman film. His record with female characters varies, but he was the creator for Blade the series. A show where Jill Wagner and Jessica Gower were getting the most praise for. Nolan on the other hand, best female characters he's done so far is in Inception, and they were still pretty forgettable. And Nolan also happens to be one of the writers for the Batman film.

Date: 2011-03-28 08:47 pm (UTC)Hell, if only we could get a decent script for Wonder Woman!
Still, I do shudder to think of the bullshit names that will be tossed around should that movie ever be made. I can't think of anyone decent right now that would actually have a chance (yes, Bridget Regan would be perfect, but she wouldn't be on anyone's radar). The problem with Wonder Woman is HEIGHT + acting chops + affiablility and ferociousness.

Date: 2011-03-28 08:42 pm (UTC)Word. It's like, I never would have considered Adams, but now that she's been cast and I'm thinking about it, I think it's actually a pretty good choice. It's like they *gasp* care *gasp* about finding a good fit for the character. Like a female character is worth *gasp* caring about!
Not that I have anything against Kate Bosworth but more Bryan Singer's lackadaisical attitude when casting Lois Lane.
*sigh* I'd actually wiped Bos-Lane from my memory. If someone hadn't mentioned it above, I would have completely forgotten she played Lois. That's how underwhelming a choice she was, I didn't even hate the casting enough to remember her.
