Thank the lord, this weeks Nikita was good!
Mikita is still boring and stupid, and Maggie and Shane have no chemistry together, but at least the Mikita idiocy was countered by an actual plot this episode.
TBH, the best parts of the episode were the Alex/Amanda bits. Alex impressed me once again. She adapts to situations so quickly and think on her feet so well. I'm in love with how smart she is. And Amanda's obsession with her just tickles me pink. Melinda Clarke is so enchanting. Amanda scares the shit out of me, but I love every second she is on screen. I can't wait to see how the cat and mouse game between the two of them continues to develop. Also, the Birkhoff/Amanda tag-team was pretty fun. "That's a lie" lol.
It's probably not what the writers are going for, but Jaden's hate!boner for Alex amuses the hell out of me. I just feel like Jaden masturbates at night while imagining fighting Alex, wrestling her to the ground and then mounting her victoriously. If they ever get into an actual physical fight, Alex better watch out for her virtue.
I enjoy Owen so much, even when he's all crazy. The character has such energy and presence. He's fun to watch, and in this episode where he was juxtaposed against Michael so much, it really hammered home how fucking boring Michael is. I don't care how many, "He's built where it counts" Nikita utters. Michael is just not impressive, and when Nikita is surrounded by all of this charismatic, hot badass associates, it makes her 'love' for Michael completely boggling. Also, that last hug between Nikita and Owen, with Maggie crying so very prettily (she is such a pretty crier) was more effecting than anything I've ever seen between Nikita and Michael on screen.
But let's focus on what's really important. Owen lived through the episode! I was worried for a while there. Thank goodness Michael is so whipped, and Nikita has a healers touch.
In conclusion, it was nice to see the show return to fine form. I almost just waited to download this episode because I was so disappointed by last weeks, but I'm back to counting down to next weeks ep now! Though, I gotta say, if I don't get some meaningful Nikita/Alex interaction next week, I'mma a throw a hizzy fit. I needs my Nalex fix dammit!

Date: 2011-04-15 06:04 am (UTC)I um, might have watched it a few bazillion times already, maybe at scene :10...no reason in particular really...
Gosh, now THERE was the show I love. And the fact that there wasn't even a real Niki/Alex scene and I'm still saying that shows how much I loved it. Character backstory for Owen, Amanda scaring the bajeezus out of me, Alex thinking so quickly on her feet, even Nikita & Michael working well together, and that last scene, guh my heart. Normally I think Maggie is an action star first and an actress second, but that last scene with Owen tonight, she owned it and had me holding back tears. She absolutely brought it with the acting tonight, hell she even made Mikita half believable as a couple, lord knows she James Francoing Shane through this relationship.
But good god so I ship Nikita/Owen. How well and so effortlessly Devon and Maggie play off each other just highlights how horrible Shane West is in his role. It just makes me sad really cause if Michael was played by someone I could believe in I would be all over Mikita, instead I'm just like "okay well Nikita loves him, so I'll put up with it." But tonight, how they had spots of Mikita to help move the storyline along (I'll admit, I even laughed when Michael was annoyed with not being able to shoot Owen charging at him), that's a Mikita I can live with. Please don't make their stupid love game the focus of any episode ever again.
*off to watch the trailer of ep 19 a few hundred more times*

I know, right! When the show sticks to what it set out to be about it's AWESOME!

I totally see that, and Nikita as a character doesn't exactly allow Maggie to display a dazzling range of emotions because Nikita is so closed off. Lyndsy gets to do most of the pretty crying. But every once in a while the writers give her something juicy, and I'm like "Oh, yeah, she's pretty good in addition to being kickass!"
How well and so effortlessly Devon and Maggie play off each other just highlights how horrible Shane West is in his role.
Yeah. Pretty much. I've tried to defend Shane, but the Mikita stuff really just highlights the fact that he lacks charisma. Sawa isn't the greatest actor ever, but he brings a presence and energy to the character that I've NEVER seen in Michael.
Please don't make their stupid love game the focus of any episode ever again.
This, so much! Mikita CANNOT carry an episode.
