True Blood's back...

Granted, it was kind of a mixed bag, but I am still excite!
Loved:
Pam. Forever and always. Her disdain for being forced to do that PSA was hilarious.

And then her "chat" with Jessica in the ladies room was full of win.

Pam is so ferosh, I love her! And her giggling slayed me (see above .gif)!
Nan Flannigan. Glad to see this fabulous undead bitch back. "There are studies. People are much dumber than they think." LOL. Probably the best line of the show (unless Pam's giggling counts as a line).
Eric's turn doing the PSA was pretty awesome. I love him when he puts on his fake 'boy next door Americana' facade. Too funny.
Jason being smart and dependable? WHAAA? Mind-boggling, but awesome. I also loved his confession about how much he missed Sookie.
Terry was hilarious and sweet as usual. Though Arlene bugged as usual. Not looking forward to another season of her having evil baby panic.
Andy's "You owe me a plaque!" was mint.

Not sure how I'm going to like his 'V addiction storyline' (I'm really tired of that subplot) but that first scene was pretty damn funny.
Sam's support group! Hi, Papi! HORSIES! I'm looking forward to seeing more shifters (and for Sam to have some sort of positive influences in his life)!
Fiona Shaw. Love her. I'm suitably intrigued by this witch coven (and both interested in and creeped out by Shaw's character). Also intrigued by the idea that Lafayette has a lot of power residing in him, enough that she needed him in particular to make that creepy ass spell on the bird work (if only for a moment). It seemed like she was testing him to see if what she suspected about his power was true, and I'm scared but interested to see what her interest in him will lead to.
MMA Tara! Hot. That grin she gave at the end of the match was a thing of beauty. Note to show: Please let Rutina smile more! Woman has a killer smile (and legs, and abs *end objectification*).
Reserving Judgement:
On Tara and her girlfriend. Lots of people already seem to be calling foul on the storyline, jumping on the 'it's offensive' train, but I think one episode is way to soon to be judging how things are going to work out/what implications the storyline will make. Especially with a gay running the series, I don't think its fair, based on probably a cumulative 6 min (if that) of screen time, to say that Tara's turned gay because she had bad luck with men (especially considering that seasons 1-3 only covered about 7-10 weeks in these characters lives. It's not like we've followed Tara's life for 4-5 years, seen nary a sign that she could be a lady lover and then blah-blam! Lezza! Seasons 1-3 only spanned like two months).
So, could the storyline end up making some unfortunate implications? Yes.
Will it? That remains to be seen, but I'm hoping for the best (mostly because Tara and her girl are super hot together. Super.) but also because I find it fanciful to be watching a show with three lesbian/bi characters in the main and regular cast (four is Sophie-Anne ends up coming back). Plus, it's neat to see an interracial lesbian relationship on screen. I've seen more incestuous relationships on TV than I've seen interracial lesbian ones (outside of TLW which I hate)
The lying hurts me though, because as good and sweet as things are right now, Tara lying about every single fucking aspect of her life to her girlfriend is not going to end well. Oh, unbreak my heart!
Also, I am fucking even more pissed at that psychofreak Franklin because when Tara returns to Bon Temps (and you know she will), if her girlfriend doesn't come with her (which seems unlikely considering the plethora of lies
- The Jessica/Hoyt storyline. I started out loving these two. Then by the end of last season I was indifferent to them. And now ... now I'm still largely indifferent but veering towards irritation. I do think this storyline has the potential to be interesting, but it also has the potential to make me dislike both characters (i.e. the eggs-gate). I just don't know ... but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Didn't Like
- The opening in fairyland. I'm scared about this plotline, very scared. It has the potential to be incredibly awful, as witnessed by the opening of this episode. Also, the show got Gary Cole and then killed him off in like 3 min? What ... what fuckery is that? Why tease us with the awesome of Gary Cole only to take him away so soon?
- Bill is the King of Louisiana?

Fuck that shit! What the hell happened to Sophie-Anne. I refuse to believe that pipsqueak managed to kill a vampire over 200 years older than him. We better find out what the hell happened after that fight last season, and ERW better not be gone for good. Also, Bill is that chair behind that big desk look stupid! Like a little boy dressing up as HFIC (Head Fatha-fucker In Charge) Russell Edington.
- Eric's last line (in fact that whole last scene between Sookie and Eric). I honestly cannot see how that kind of possessive-ness is supposed to be attractive and/or romantic. People hate on Bill for that "Sookie is mahn!" bullshit, but somehow when Eric does it it's supposed to be swoon worthy? Him talking about buying the house so that he could 'own' Sookie creeped me the hell out. Bring on the amnesia storyline (cliche as it is) if it'll mean a quick end to this fuckery.
- Arlene and more evil baby worries.
- The return of Hot Spot or whatever that inbreed were-cat colony is called. I fucking hated that Crystal storyline from last season and am not looking forward to the continuation of it. It is only the fact that Ryan Kwanten makes Jason so loveable and so I care what happens to him that stopped me from fastforwarding through that scene.
- UGH! Tommy and Hoyt's mom on screen together. Way to compound the awful show. I don't know what's happening there and I don't care, but I'm sure I'm gonna find out.
In conclusion, mixed bag or not, I'm glad the shows back!

Date: 2011-06-28 02:28 am (UTC)The witchcraft storyline is interesting and I'm glad to see a happier Tara for once.
Pam is as awesome as Ivy Tamwood was when the Hollows was still a great book series (books 1 through 5) before KH tossed Ivy aside and made her irrelevant to the series (sob!). BTW, I loved your Ravy fiction, some of the best ever written. When I need an Ivy Tamwood fix (and what Ravy fan doesn't), I re-read them. I can't bring myself to finish Pale Demon, just can't!
Yeah - sure hope True Blood is better than it was last season.

Date: 2011-06-28 10:46 pm (UTC)Eric is totally creepy when he does it.
True. But at least the show (and Sookie) are acknowledging the creepiness of it, and Eric is very straightforward about his intentions/wants whereas Bill was a lying liar who lied and is still lying.
Pam is as awesome as Ivy Tamwood was when the Hollows was still a great book series (books 1 through 5) before KH tossed Ivy aside
Truth. Luckily for us, Alan Ball/the True Blood writers are unlike to get bored with Pam and start ignoring her like KH did with Ivy. So, Pam is likely to stay awesome and fierce whereas Ivy's pretty much been defanged and tossed to the curb like yesterday's trash.
Also, unlike Rachel, Eric actually respects Pam and their relationship is loving and supportive. Like, Eric actually acts like he ... LIKES Pam and enjoys her company instead of taking for her granted and treating her like shit. This is unheard of in Rachel Morgan's world (and yep, the loathing of what the Hollows turned into is still inside of me and going strong!)

Date: 2011-06-28 03:01 am (UTC)Sophie-Anne was probably my favourite character from season 2, so I hope she's still good in season 3 and they better not have gotten rid of her. That's too soon to depart that character.
People hate on Bill for that "Sookie is mahn!" bullshit, but somehow when Eric does it it's supposed to be swoon worthy?
That's bordering on Twilight mentality where stalking and watching you sleep is consider sexy.
It is only the fact that Ryan Kwanten makes Jason so loveable and so I care what happens to him that stopped me from fastforwarding through that scene.
Where would this show be without the comedy of Jason Stackhouse?
You mind if I ask you two questions? The first is where would season 3 rank in comparison to the first two? I thought season 1 was okay, but season 2 was love.
The second is did you ever wrote True Blood fics with Sophie-Anne? She doesn't seem to get as much appreciation as I would expect compared to some of the other women. At least with this show it can be contributed to plenty of good characters in the cast. As oppose to some shows where by the time the season comes to an end, the lesbian's the only good character left.

Date: 2011-06-28 09:40 pm (UTC)She's still around in Season3, but there's not enough of her. The show has so many characters that some are short changed screen-time and SA is unfortunately one of those characters :(
That's bordering on Twilight mentality where stalking and watching you sleep is consider sexy.
This! Although, thankfully unlike with Bill, Sookie is rightful pissed off and creeped out by Eric's behavior so at least there's that. Stalking as seduction is not cool.
Where would this show be without the comedy of Jason Stackhouse?
I know, right! Jason's such a lovable buffoon.
did you ever wrote True Blood fics with Sophie-Anne?
No, I never wrote an SA fanfic :( I don't think I produced any TB fanfic for last season. That'll change this season though.

Date: 2011-06-29 04:17 am (UTC)I know about season 3, she's suppose to be in 6 out of the 12 episodes, which isn't bad. I'm talking about this season. I spoiled myself by looking up what happens in the upcoming episodes and *sigh* saw a Youtube video of SA getting gunned down by that SWAT team.
You read the Stackhouse book series right? Wasn't Sophie-Anne suppose to have a long run and play an important character in books 6 & 7? If that's true, Alan Ball how could you? You use an important character from the books who was promising in your own series and ax her already? What? That's like making a Justice League trilogy where Batman dies 20 min into the first movie.
There better be flashbacks of Sophie-Anne or some surprise twist where SA was brought back alive or I'm not going to be a happy camper. Sure I heard she died in the books too, but not this early.
BTW I heard SA in the books is very different from her series counterpart, how different are they?
Dammit I don't want to see more Sookie and King Bill, I want the Queen and cousin Hadley. I find those two far more interesting. Though I still rather watch the fairy and her vampire than the lead couple from that other saga where "vampires" are made from crystallized fairy dust. Okay now In getting some fanfic ideas of Sookie and Bill being the ones who spawned the Twi-vamps.
Although, thankfully unlike with Bill, Sookie is rightful pissed off and creeped out by Eric's behavior so at least there's that.
Phew. True Blood characters still act normal.
Jason's such a lovable buffoon.
Jason's story I found easily the most interesting in S2. Loved how he took his church training to try and save the town in the climax. In fact Jason was easily my favourite character in season 2 until Godric and Sophie-Anne popped up.
I don't think I produced any TB fanfic for last season. That'll change this season though.
I hope Sophie-Anne is in those stories.

Date: 2011-06-28 05:24 am (UTC)as for the whole fairy thing, if they're not gonna spend the money to do some decent special effects, don't otherwise it just looks like a scene from one of those hilariously-bad, SyFy Saturday-nite movies. and clearly Gary Cole was superfluous... i mean, 3 minutes?! also, what happened to cool, sneering, tones we're used to hearing from Pam? nevertheless her scene w/ Jessica WAS all kinds of funny and very Pam in that regard.
i can see Bill's character is going to annoy me even more! i was hoping we'd see the end of the whole Sookie/Bill drama... but because i'm a fan of Sookie's breasts (i know, total objectification, but what can i say...;) ) and Eric is awesome, i'm looking forward to seeing how that relationship evolves.
i'm lovin' Lafayette's communing w/ magic stuff. that should be very interesting. Sam's Pack/Support Group? awesome!!!
yeah, the Tommy/Hoyt's mom dynamic... i'd rather take a laxative. as season premiere's go-- not the strongest i've ever seen. i guess i'll just have to watch re-runs of Game of Thrones, if that's the case.

Date: 2011-06-28 09:55 pm (UTC)This. I can't say that I'm surprised that people have been calling foul on it, but it bugs me that they are. People come out later in life, its a fact. A character doesn't need to follow your personal timeline for how someone should come out. Personally, a line from Sookie like, "So, you still wanna try and tell me I didn't see you and Kenya making out behind the bleachers?" after she learns about Tara's relationship with Naomi would be all of the 'background' I'd need (and if we don't even get that, I don't care TBH)
her creating an entirely new life, filled w/ deep secrets won't end well. as my mama would say: it'll all come out in the wash.
This I'm hating though, because Tara and Naomi as so cute together and the actresses have great chemistry, but Tara's HUGE web of lies cannot end well. One can only hope that early in the season Tara's comes clean to Naomi, confesses her lies and explains the extremely fucked up things that have happened her so that Naomi has a reason to think about forgiving her. I'd like to get Naomi out to Bon Temps, but something bad happening to Tara or her being a supe would be the only things I can think of to get her out there.
if they're not gonna spend the money to do some decent special effects, don't otherwise it just looks like a scene from one of those hilariously-bad, SyFy Saturday-nite movies.
This! It was embarrassing to watch. A co-worker said it reminded them of the Shatner Star Trek, and I was like 'yeah'. Do it right peeps, or don't do it at all.
Eric is awesome, i'm looking forward to seeing how that relationship evolves.
I wasn't looking forward to creeper!Eric after episode one, but episode 2 gave some more perspective on Eric's position and perspective that was kind of interesting, and also introduce a whole other thing for Eric that I think has the potential to be really interesting and fun.
The season premiere really wasn't the greatest, but I really liked the second episode and it gave me a much better feeling about the rest of the season, so I think we'll be okay!

Date: 2011-06-28 09:57 pm (UTC)Pam is fantastic ... as always. I really hope we get a significant amount of Pam this season and that she gets some stuff to do besides snark (though she does it SO well)
I think we're going to be disappointed in regards to Sophie-Anne though :(

Date: 2011-06-28 10:02 pm (UTC)Over the years I've just had to kind of learn to let go of book!versions of characters and storylines and just immerse myself in the AU!tv-verse of the characters lives (i.e. pretty little liars, Percy Jackson and the Olympians).
The shows good, just prepare yourself and go into it knowing that it will and does change things from the book.
At least in the second episode they do show that Bill did have help in his confrontation with Sophie Anne. Before he called in his reinforcements Sophie-Anne was easily handing him his ass.

like you, I'm reserving judgement on the lesbian aspect of Tara's life, but I LIKE TARA 2.0 ALREADY. she was one of my least-favourite characters in season three (together with Sam and Tommy), so I'm glad for Tara 2.0. and she FINALLY found a use for her amazingly toned arms. yummmmmmmm.

Date: 2011-06-28 10:08 pm (UTC)Jessica is totally going to be a mix of sexy and awesome (when she's going all vamp) and irritating as hell (when she's freaking out at Hoyt and treating him badly because he doesn't understand her) this season. Hopefully there'll be more sexy and awesome than irritating in the grand scheme of things though.
Tara 2.0 is kickass. I'm really enjoying her this season. The year jump in time was a very GOOD move for this character because it allowed for some healing and growth, without taking away her Tara-ness (which we see in the second episode). I also liked the little bit we got on Tara/Naomi in the second episode. Because it's this show, Tara/Naomi is definitely gonna have drama, but after seeing episode two I'm not too concerned about the shows attitude towards the relationship.

Date: 2011-06-28 03:13 pm (UTC)Bill annoys me very much and for the whole series Bill has had secrets come to light, he just comes off even way more shady then Eric and I LOVE ERIC he's my 2nd fav character. Also you really dont know for sure that hes either in love with Sookie or possessive of her.
Tara mmmmmmm Tara her attitude, arms and abs are back in my life once again, and brings with her something even more then what I hoped for, my mom even had to yell at me to come see that Tara has a hot gf lol. but I think I cant watch Tara and her lezza scenes with my mom anymore, cause if all their sex or sexy scenes are like that, I'm not going to be able to control the sounds that would escape my mouth in front of her. It tok so much to not make any then lol.
I also love they they have Tara in a lesbian interracial relationship too, more of that should be on t.v. but really if people are going to have problems with Tara being with a woman yet watch Game of Thrones, should go fuck themselves and shut the fuck up.
I'm still wondering if Sam is having 'dreams' about Bill lol. Since that scene Sookie thought she was dreaming of Eric in her house.
Eric buying the house and telling Sookie that she was his was beyond creepy indeed but at least he was more up front then Bill was about it.
the whole ting with Hyott's mom and Sams brother together is all sorts of fucked up and weird.
I was rooting for Jessica and Hyott in the beginning but now I'm not so sure, cause I feel Jessica is going to fuck up reallllll bad.
I feel scared for my Lafayette too =(
overall with everything so far I cant wait for what happens next.

Date: 2011-06-28 10:37 pm (UTC)The second episode put a lot more perspective into the situation with Sookie and Eric that made me less hostile towards the storyline. Eric is pretty up front about his motivations and Sookie is pretty upfront about her disgust with him, so thankful the shows not taking the disgustingly romantic angle that they did with Bill and Sookie. I've always been pretty indifferent to Eric, but after episode 2 I think I'm really going to enjoy him this season.
The Tara/Naomi seasons were hot as hell. Tara better come clean to Naomi and handle her shit, because I want those two to stay together. Rutina and Vedetta have great chemistry, and Naomi has had an amazing effect on Tara as a character, and I think Tara will really need her to keep her shit together when things start to go to shit for her in Bon Temps (because you know things WILL start to go to shit for her in Bon Temps). And I can totally understand not wanting to watch their scenes with your mom, because their scenes are very happy-making in the pants area which is uncomfortable to say the least around parentals.
but really if people are going to have problems with Tara being with a woman yet watch Game of Thrones, should go fuck themselves and shut the fuck up.;
I think it says more about the narrow mindset of the people who are complaining than the storyline of the show, right now to be jumping to conclusions after one episode. The implication by viewers that they actually think people just 'turn gay' without their being a predisposition within a person is actually quite insulting. Seasons 1-3 have spanned 7 weeks in the characters lives. How the hell are viewers going to say that Tara has no history of being attracted to women when we've only seen 7 WEEKS of her life (7 very fucked up traumatic weeks). Also, Tara's been established to be a closed off person, who guards herself and her feelings. So unless viewers wanted to see exaggerated shots of her staring at women's tits over the past few seasons I don't know what people are complaining about.
Personally, a line from Sookie like, "So, you still wanna try and tell me I didn't see you and Kenya making out behind the bleachers?" after she learns about Tara's relationship with Naomi would be all of the 'background' I'd need (and if we don't even get that, I wouldn't even really care TBH)
The show has already established the relationship as being loving, passionate and healthy (other than Tara's lying) and as something that Tara is proud of and NOT afraid of acknowledging in public and to people she cares about. Oooh, that's so offensive, internet. I'm glad you're taking a stand against that.
Sorry about the rant. It's just the more I think about the weak ass reasons people are complaining the more it irritates me.
Eric buying the house and telling Sookie that she was his was beyond creepy indeed but at least he was more up front then Bill was about it.
Very true. It's still creepy, but Eric's transparency is a nice change from Bill's constant lying. Especially in episode 2 they have Eric lay things out very plainly to Sookie, he doesn't try to pull the wool over her eyes which is good. I think that I was probably reacting more to fans OTPing after the end of the episode than the shows actual treatment of the pairing.
I was rooting for Jessica and Hyott in the beginning but now I'm not so sure, cause I feel Jessica is going to fuck up reallllll bad.
Yeeeeah. Jessica is totally gonna fuck up realllll bad and watching it is going to be painful. I suppose it needs to happen (she's barely had time to learn about being a vampire before tying herself down to Hoyt, and she is only 19 and lived a sheltered life, whereas Hoyt's like 28 and had a chance to live a little before deciding to make a significant and long-term commitment), but I not looking forward to watching it (though I am hoping for Pam-the-Mentor scenes and looking forward to vampy Jessica scenes)
