Lost Girl - 2x09 - Original Skin

Original Skin is another top-notch episode of Lost Girl.
I liked this one even better than last week’s (I love that it’s becoming a habit getting to say that!)
Original Skin was super fun. Body swappiness at it’s best! The cast also seemed like they were having a blast with it (especially Zoie and Kris). It was great getting to see everyone do something that we haven’t seen from them before.
1. Loved the opening scene with Bo and Kenzi. Their relationship (though inexplicable in the beginning) continues to be the most consistently enjoyable aspect of the show, and they had some great riffing going on in the opening scene. Also, Ksenio Solo, you are delightful (and the show should let you dance more, even if it's in a very graceful joke-y way)
Kenzi: “You did not just use TLC in a sentence.”
Bo (response to Kenzi saying she’d been working hard all day): “You got up at 12 and took a 2 o’clock nap!”
2.
Bo: ”I can’t believe you’re here.”
Lauren: ”I can’t believe how good you look.”
Oh dear God, that first scene between Bo and Lauren was so brutally awkward. Lauren is so cute (and horny for Bo) but it BURNS! IT BURNS!
Lauren's attitude when talking with Trick was really interesting as well. I definitely sensed some resentment from her about the whole Nadia/Curse/Slavery situation. Obviously her life was tough and lonely before Bo, but she was suffering for a cause she believed in and trying to right a wrong she felt she caused. Now, she's in love with Bo and she's stuck trying to solve a problem she didn't cause while enslaved to a man she loathes (unlike the last Ash who she seemed to have some respect for).
God, I can already imagine how brutally uncomfortable it is going to be watching the Nadia/Lauren awkwardness when they try to make it work, but really Lauren has changed so much over the past five years for it to work - not to mention the fact that Lauren is madly in love with Bo - but Lauren feels obligated to keep the train-wreck going because it wasn't Nadia's fault she got cursed (or was it) and she did sell five years of her life away for this relationship, so how could she just walk away without trying?
4. Everything that occurred after the body-swapping started was amazing! Such a fun episode!
Dyson in Lauren’s body fucked with me so bad, because Zoie is SO SEXY when she growls. Way to mess with my head writers!
DYSON AS KENZI IS THE FUNNIEST THING I’VE EVER SEEN! Kris Holden Reid was obviously loving it, and I was loving his performance! OMG he was hilarious and awesome as Kenzi. He's this big hairy man and yet it totally channeled Ksenio.
Zoie Palmer as Raynard (the psycho killer) also cracked me up. Her over-the-top Renfield impersonation was golden. Like make no mistake, she was chewing the scenery left, right and center, but oh what delightful scenery chewing it was!
5. WHAT THE FUCK?!?! WHY IS LOCHLYN’S HEAD IN A BOX?!?!?!? WHY!?!?!?!

Date: 2011-11-21 05:14 am (UTC)Kenzi in Dyson was also a laugh riot.
I do wish we'd gotten to see Kenzi in Bo too though. Partly because I would have liked for Kenzi to experience Bo's feelings for Lauren, so she would get on board with that ship more (experience the lady love for herself and all). Though given Kenzi's lack of control when it comes to booze, I feel like she would have succubus'd everyone to death!
And yes, ASH, Y U HAVE YOUR OWN HEAD IN A BOX?

The little girl was great and I want more of her snarkiness at Bo.

Isabeau?!
Now I have to go watch Ladyhawk. Michelle Pfeiffer *swoon*
Head in a box... As soon as I saw the trunk I was sure we were going to see some wood with a nail in it. Damn you Lost Girl writers!

only Hale seemed to give a stuff that Lauren had been in limbo the whole time.
Well, I'll give this a pass since nobody seemed too concerned about Bo when she was there too. But yeah, it would have been nice to see Bo at least worry about her a little bit.

This would be interesting (and yay screen time for ZP), but a part of me hates the idea that Lauren is this dark destructive force while you know St. Dyson will be around to save the day (and Bo - probably from herself because she's a girl and needs a man to save her *wants to preemptively smack the writers).
I loved the creepy little girl's snarkiness at Bo, because Bo totally had it coming. She's so dumb. Cute but dumb.

Date: 2011-11-21 08:21 am (UTC)I LOVE ZOIE PALMER EVEN MORE. OH MY GOD, THIS WOMAN CAN ACT.
Ksenia is pretty good too. She was absolutely delightful...although her face looked bored like Dyson XD
Ew, Lochlan's face in a box. Maybe that's his Achilles heel?
Oh doccubus. Stop being angsty.

Date: 2011-11-21 10:59 pm (UTC)I know! She's so good. I really wish the show would give her more to do (I was so glad to see Lauren interacting with Trick this episode!) She's got such range, but most of the time she only gets to look conflicted and kinda sad and/or awkward.
although her face looked bored like Dyson XD
It must be really boring to play Dyson. Poor Kris. He was so good this episode when he got to show emotion whereas when he's normal Dyson I think he sucks at acting. But I'm realizing it's not KHR it's the character. Dyson's dead weight.
Maybe that's his Achilles heel?
Hopefully. Now's hears hoping a sexy doctor gets her hands on it and is able to negotiate her freedom!
Oh doccubus. Stop being angsty.
I know, right. They were doing so good for the last few episodes and now its all awkward and angsty again. When Bo is being the mature one, there is something very, very wrong.

Date: 2011-11-21 11:00 pm (UTC)It's so nice to legitimately be anticipating the show, and being entertained while watching it instead of enraged. When the episodes are overall entertaining like this, even Bo/Dyson shenanigans can be overlooked.

Date: 2011-11-21 04:43 pm (UTC)At first, I had been thinking that whatever was going on with nuAsh & HeadinaBox had something to with ShinningGirl, they both seem to keep showing up together and we get a little nugget o'information with one when we get the other. Either him, and his crazy box of head, have something to do with pushing towards the Faepocolypse or pushing Bo to bring the Faepocolypse, as mentioned/previewed in last week's ep.
But a thought occurred to me last night, maybe it's random and I'm grasping at straws but...head in a box > heads on pikes > shrunken heads > witch doctor > Nadia's curse? I don't know, it's a shot in the dark. Maybe these two go together, maybe the first two go together, maybe all three tie-in. I don't know, I'm just spitballing. :) Thoughts?

Date: 2011-11-21 11:28 pm (UTC)This would be interesting, and would explain why he tolerates Bo's douchery the way he does. It would also explain why he always seems vaguely amused by her, like he can't believe his luck in being gifted with such an idiot to manipulate into bringing about the end of days. I makes me worry for Lauren though, since killing/hurting her seems like a really good way to make Bo go postal.
I can never really tell what's gonna happen on this show, but Lochlyn being involved in/knowing about Nadia situation would explain why he's allowed Lauren to continue her experiments (i don't by that it's to keep her in line since he obviously has little to no respect for her).
I definitely hope there's intrigue and connections to the larger plot line in regards to Nadia though. I don't want the character to just be a twat-block, I want her/her storyline to be an interesting one.

Date: 2011-11-21 05:04 pm (UTC)Loved KHR's Kenzi, it must be miserable to play Dyson both Kenzi and Lauren had faces like stone when they were pretending to be him. I bet ZP had a good time being the madman too, Lauren outside the bedroom is usually very controlled although she has her whimsical, flirty side that shows up every now and then.
I had Ciara down as a villain. She seems to have genuine feelings for Dyson, maybe she gets seduced to the darkside because he's all Bo suffering. He plays best off Kenzi, I think their relationship is stronger than the other two women in his life although Kenzi/Hale works well too.
Bo/Lauren have the makings of misery me too, I think Lauren is going to get more extreme in her search, she's impatient now and she'll probably do something rash and need getting out of the sticky stuff. Bo to the rescue methinks although I would like her not to need rescuing quite so much, she was the rescuer in the first season.

This! He looked so joyful to be able to emote. Zoie Palmer must have also liked getting to do something other than look conflicted/pained/awkward. I feel like Kris and Zoie have the most thankless jobs on the show.
Ciara bores me. I like that she's getting Dyson away from Bo, but there was enough of her this episode to let me know that I never want to see that much of her again. And yes, Dyson/Kenzi are always really nice, and Kenzi/Hale is always enjoyable.
I think Lauren is going to get more extreme in her search, she's impatient now and she'll probably do something rash and need getting out of the sticky stuff.
I could totally see this happening. Lauren is in a tailspin and she's in major denial/ignore mode right now. I can see her being especially desperate to cure Nadia now because she just wants the uncertainty to end/is convinced her life will settle down once Nadia is awake.
I wouldn't mind Bo rescuing Lauren though, because when Bo is being protective of Lauren is pretty much the only time I love her completely lol. And it will allow me to delude myself about the epicness of their romance (until the show ruins my delusions with more Bo/Dyson foolishness).

Date: 2011-11-21 11:33 pm (UTC)Me too! Desperately. I'm enjoying it but I'm so scared it's going to go away.
oand bless, the actor playing Hale gave the British accent a good crack
That was a seriously bad British accent, but I thought he did well with his body language.
She didn't just chew that scenery, she took gargantuan bites out of it, chewed it up, spat it out, jumped up and down on it and then set it one fire.
So true. She was madcap. It was so much fun to watch. She's like, "If you're finally going to let me make expressions, I'm going to make ALL THE EXPRESSIONS!"
The phone-call remains one of my favorite parts of the episode, "This is doctor Lauren ... the doctor." LOL
I'm crossing my fingers along with you!

Date: 2011-11-22 12:16 am (UTC)Oh, this. So much. We've had so much Lost Girl that I liked...some that I loved...and some that I just desperately /wanted/ to like...to actually love the show and look forward to it purely on its merits /as a show/...it's new, and giddy...and I hope it doesn't backslide, because now we're all seeing the potential we all knew was there.
That was a seriously bad British accent, but I thought he did well with his body language..
Really bad. Being British, it almost hurt sometimes. But, like I said - bless him for giving it a go. And he did indeed, as did Ciara for Hale's body language (I may have laughed a little at the boob grab).
So true. She was madcap. It was so much fun to watch. She's like, "If you're finally going to let me make expressions, I'm going to make ALL THE EXPRESSIONS!"
I've often thought I'd love to see her in something really, really comedy based. But lol. THIS. It really was like she thought that, and used EVRY SINGLE EXPRESSION IN THE WORLD. And they were all mad and brilliant lol.
Let's just keep our fingers crossed! :)

Date: 2011-11-25 09:30 am (UTC)I'm officially sold, Zoie and Kris needs more out of character moments. Kind of wish this story had more than one episode to it's arc just to see more of Kenzi-Dyson and Raynard-Lauren.
The writers should realize how popular this episode was and think of more elaborate ways to get Zoie and Kris acting differently again. Whether it be possessed by ghost, a spell or some sort of magical potion that causes radical personality changes.
This may sound weird, but Zoie turns me on more as Raynard-Lauren than normal Lauren. Also when she saw Nadia in the monitor, I really wanted to see how this play out with Nadia awake. Just imagine, Lauren managed to break the curse and it would be a matter of time for Nadia to wake up. Then when she does, her first time seeing her girlfriend again is when Raynard has her body. She would probably think working for the Ash has turned her girlfriend crazy. The scene would have been priceless.
