Rachel paused in the doorway of the room she had become so accustomed to entering and stared. It hadn’t occurred to her to knock, though as she watched Sydney pull away from her sister’s lips she wished fervently that she had.

Nadia stood in front of Sydney, her eyes moving back and forth between the blonde in the doorway and her sister.

“Rachel,” Sydney said sounding oddly calm. “Come in.”

Rachel’s eyes lowered to take in Sydney’s outstretched hand. They then lifted drifting over to Nadia, who now had a small, encouraging smile on her face.

She stepped forward and took Sydney’s hand allowing Sydney to pull her towards them as Nadia’s hand drifted up to caress her cheek.

“Rachel,” the word came out wearily, apologetically and slightly embarrassed.

Rachel’s eyes were trained on Sydney’s lips, lips she knew well, lips she had spent entire nights kissing. Lips that were at that moment damp from another’s lips.

Nadia stepped out of the circle of her sister’s arms as Sydney spoke, her head turning to face Rachel. She herself had often been accused of having a baby face, but the blonde looked impossibly young to her at the moment, not to mention hurt and dismayed.

“She’s my sister.” Sydney’s tone was small and beseeching.

Rachel stared at them for a moment longer. Sydney’s hand still lay on Nadia’s hip, the brunette squeezed seamlessly against her side.

Rachel’s eyes closed.
