Torchwood - 1x08 - They Keep Killing Suzie
Dec. 6th, 2006 12:49 amThey keep killing Suzie ...
But I really wish they wouldn't because Suzie rocks ... or should I say Indira Varma does. She really does, she rocks, she rocks the casbah!
I think this might be favorite episode of Torchwood overall so far. I know, I know blasphemy since this episode didn't have any girl kissing in it (and I love taht with Torchwood, you can be like "no girl kissing, what up wit dat?"), but it was just a very, very good episode.
Gwen didn't bug me for the first time in quite a few episodes, Ianto and Tosh actually had stuff to do, Jack was all mysterious, bad-ass and kinda gay ... and of course, Indira Varma rocked the Torchwood.
Suzie was so freaking dark and twisty (and emo - yeah, yeah Suzie, nobody likes you, everybody hates you CAUSE YOU'RE INSANE!), but compellingly so. She creeped me out but fascinated me at the same time. The way Indira portrayed her madness was really intoxicating and I keep on wanting Suzie to keep on living, to make that ferry boat, to live. When they got to the harbour and she was carrying Gwen trying to get them both to the boat and a new life, I really wanted those two crazy kids to make it (even though I knew it was insane because Suzie was slowly killing her yachting buddy). Plus, she looked so radiant and full of life at the end of the dock, that it really jarred me when Jack shot her, and then shot her again, and again, and again. Despite what she had done it seemed cruel. And then she made with the psychotic smirking and taunting, and she became this undying creature of pure evil once more ... and that's some good acting right there!
I know Suzie is a complete nutter and couldn't stay around, but I will forever curse the series that they got rid of Varma in the first episode, and then proceeded to tease me with her casbah rocking ways this episode only to take her away again. *tear*
Also, playing Lamb's "Gorecki" at the end, brilliant. Loved it! Perfect beautifully melancholy ending.
As well, because Tosh totally didn't want to be around to see Suzie's resurrection, and then refused to look at her when they were monitoring the gang in the field, I'm going to fanwank that they were totally co-workers with benefits (especially since Tosh seems to like her bed buddies slightly irritating, self-centered, ass-holish, and morally questionable).

So, basically, the life we have here is the only one we have...or that's what I think the writers are trying to say.
But yeah, I first saw Varma in 'Rome' and thought she was hot as well.
heh - must be behind on my fan-vocabulary...had to look up 'Fanwank'. ;-P

He was probably abusive to her and her mother, like a deadbeat drunk or something that she blames for messing her up and screwing up her life, though I wouldn't put it past this show to make it something more disturbing.

Or at least nothing good (she did later say that there was something out there moving). Her description of the nothing was certainly chilling though, and if that true you can see why she'd be so desperate to cling onto life anyway possible.

Yeah, she was stunning as Niobe. Too bad she's dead on that show now too. *sigh* Still, Rome isn't hurting for hotness (hello, Atia, Octavia and Servilia - yes that's right, I put Servilia on my hot list! lol)

Date: 2006-12-07 04:04 pm (UTC)As to Jack...there's still a lot we don't know. How he went from 25000 AD back to 1911 and so on. Did he know it was Rose who brought him back? Grrr! They better give some answers...
Okay, I'll grant you Servilila is hot, but only because she completely got revenge on Atia...and there's certainly nothing more erotic than a vengeful and powerful woman. ;-)
