"Twilight" ramblings ... *hangs head* I can't believe I just wrote that.
So it makes absolutely no sense that I'm following the production of this movie considering I haven't been able to finish reading the first book yet (if I have to read about Edward's "topaz eyes" or about how he "dazzles" Bella one more time I'm going stab somebody ... hard ... and someplace vital!), but I am following it for some masochistic reason.
Okay, that reason is my vampire fetish and probably more so Robert Pattinson's pretty since I had no desire to read the books before he was cast even though I knew they were about vampires.
In any event ...

Thoughts:
- Robert looks delicious. As usual.
- Why, why, why does Hollywood insist on casting very good-looking brunette actors/actresses to play blondes? I'm sorry, there are very few people who can rock all shades of hair and look good with them all. Not everyone can be Rachel McAdams, ya'll!
If you hire a brunette because they're the best actor for the role just leave them brunette. Peter Facinelli was not made to be blond (though he probably pulls the look off the best of the three). Ditto for Nikki Reed, and for Jackson Rathbone (the other bottled blond in the pictures). They are all stunning brunette's and weird looking blonds.
- Why is everyone in bulky jackets except for Elizabeth Reaser and Robert? It's because they're the sexiest, isn't it? I wish I was so hot that the elements had no effect on me.
- So, yeah that 's pretty much it for thoughts since I haven't finished the first book and can't really make any meaningful comments on the casting (and really, I'm okay with that).
*sigh*
I really hope they start casting for the A Great and Terrible Beauty movie soon, so that I can start obsessing about that, since I actually like those books.

Date: 2008-02-20 01:53 am (UTC)Kim Harrison: Dead Witch Walking, is all I got to say. Although I think the author would dislike me advertising her works this way, making it seem like the books are only about femslash, which they aren't. The characters simply live their three-dimensional lives, femslash just happens-and I couldn't be more happy.
I would gouge my own eyes out if I died before reading that series.
What's even more amazing than reading your fics or these books? If you would ever write a fic about Ivy and Rachel.
It's more awesome than Sarah Water's Fingersmith (there's a movie of that book which I haven't found yet am desperately searching for...) or the part in Jacqueling Carey's Kushiel saga where Melisande takes Phedre for test drive. Although the part of Fingersmith where the protagonists execute their plot comes pretty darn close.

Date: 2008-02-20 02:13 am (UTC)There is the femslash in this? I've been toying around with buying this for a couple of weeks, but because I have a shitload of half-read books laying about I haven't bought it. But if there is femslash I will not be able to deny it.
Is it textual, or really obvious femslash? Either way I'm there, I'm just curious.

Fingersmith is pretty effing awesome so that's some high praise there to compare the two. This makes me happy. You haven't seen the Fingersmith movie? *gasps in horror* I have it on my computer I'll be uploading it for you. You have to see it, it's very good and it actually enticed me to read the book. The leads are fantastic. Seriously, if you do not fall in love with Elaine Cassidy as Maude you have so soul (I'm only half joking about that).
Jacqueling Carey's Kushiel saga where Melisande takes Phedre for test drive.
This is another one I've been toying with. And I've mostly put it down because the print is small and the first one is thick. I'm an utter and complete child sometime. Are the books pretty good? How would a non-fantasy reader take to them?

Date: 2008-02-20 02:39 am (UTC)About Kushiel: it's very different. I read too much fantasy when I was teen and got over-saturated by it. I hate traditional fantasy today, but still find George R. R. Martin's and Jacqueline Carey's works really great because they don't go follow the traditional formula.
I wouldn't even categorize Jacqueline Carey as fantasy, it's more like alternate history. Reminds me a lot more of the books placed on Victorian Era than any vanilla fantasy I've read. There's a lot of scheming and plotting behind the scenes. Also a lot of hot BDSM sex...

A Victorian sensibility and hot BDSM sex = me there! Aiight, I'm just gonna have to get over the small print and read this too. With the three sentences above there's no way I can resist!
Thanks for the info :D

Date: 2008-02-20 02:37 am (UTC)I agree that Kim Harrison is very readable, although the femslash is more of a tease (so far) than anything. Still, I actually like the characters, even though I wish Ivy was handled better. Harrison doesn't quite seem to know what to do with Ivy in the more recent books. If I remember the first book correctly, Harrison did a good job of striking the balance between doomed, badass vampire and no-nonsense kickass chick at the beginning, but it's been downhill from there since.
Fanfic is definitely needed to right this.

Date: 2008-02-20 03:15 am (UTC)So true. Bray is awesome. I really love the Gemma Doyle Trilogy. I devoured those books. The Sweet Far Thing took me the longest to read and it only took me three days to read it.
I'm not an elitist when in comes to entertainment literature. I mean, I just devoured Melissa De La Cruz's "Blood Bloods" and "Masquerade" books (they are basically Gossip Girl ... with Blair, Serena, Dan and Vanessa were vampires ... which is as awesome as it sounds. Of course, even a non-vamped Blair Waldorf could still kick Mimi Force's ass ... Blair is just that awesome)
It's not hard to find much better written fanfic, so I'm kind of puzzled as to why it's been such a phenomenon over the summer. Vampires = sure thing I guess.
Oh, I know! I can't understand it. It's so terrible, and yet its so popular that for a long time I was wondering if it was just me. I thought maybe I was just being a hater so I'm glad other people think its poo as well.

So, I'll check out the first book at least and then take it from there.
Speaking of teasing, I'm so glad that Libba Bray actually went somewhere with the teasing in her books. I will love her forever for that.

Date: 2008-02-20 03:53 am (UTC)She did an awsome job with the period style writing. I got the audiobooks on CD at the library and ripped them to my iPod. Listening to Josephine Bailey reading the books is like the best of both worlds. Awsome writing read with a british accent. I recommend it to fall asleep to, even though some of the scary bits are not conducive to sleep.
>I'll check out the first book at least and then take it from there.
I think it's one of the strongest ones in the series, stands on its own as most of the books do. Except for the lack of resolution beween Rachel and Ivy.
> I'm so glad that Libba Bray actually went somewhere with the teasing in her books. I will love her forever for that.
That was a very nice surprise. I love how complex, flawed and yet wonderful Gemma's friends are. Probably the most impressive thing about the books is how she managed to be very unsentimental about the selfishness of their survival tactics and yet make them so loyal to each other as teenagers can be.

Date: 2008-02-23 06:13 pm (UTC)That is so true, and something that I noticed and loved about the books. All of the characters were presented as being flawed, but it made them so much more real and lovable. In other series when characters display attitude or get into fights with other it can be seriously annoying (I have wanted to bitch slap both Harry Potter and Ron Weasely numerous times) but Bray managed to keep them very human, and even when they were being stupid, selfish, snots I still felt for them and sympathized with them.
It's an amazing accomplishment. I really can't wait until her next book comes out, no matter what it's about (although I hope it continues to be in the supernatural realm because I love that stuff). If she wrote a vampire book I think I might throw up from happiness.
Also, I got "Dead Witch Walking" now I just have to read it!

I hadn't thought of that, but he totally does look like Dan before Penn's hair started to grow in again. A less cute Dan, although probably a lot less pretentious as well.

Date: 2008-02-23 06:16 pm (UTC)Best. Description. Ever. And, I KNOW!
I have to say, the wig is kind of horrible but she doesn't look completely ridiculous as a blonde, but WTF? It's like if you care so much about the characters hair colour hire an actual blonde. Because although she doesn't make me want to claw my eyes out like Colin Farrell's hair did in Alexander, you can tell that it's dyed/a wig, and it's not sexy, let alone vampirically sexy.

Date: 2008-02-23 06:31 pm (UTC)I love Seth's facial expressions. Possibly the best part of the show, outside of Olivia's hotness for all 10 eps she was on.
I can see, just a little, looking at the first pic that it's Nikki. I mean, the face sorta looks like her, but yeah the blonde wig/weave/whatevs is just horrible. I mean, if you want to cast pretty people, I can think of a ton of people who look a lot prettier that are really blonde, or even ones that look better as a fake blonde. *cough*Olivia*cough* Hell, even J. Gar's bright red spy wig looked better than that!

Date: 2008-02-23 07:00 pm (UTC)Seth began to annoy me after a while, but for about a season and a half he was pure gold. I still remember that expression and it was like one of the greatest things ever.

I know! Like hard it's to find blonde actresses in Hollywood.

Date: 2008-02-23 06:22 pm (UTC)That's probably best. The books are shit. I'm only gonna try to finish reading it because I spent good money on that dammit!
I'm hoping that the movie will be infinitely less annoying than the book was.
and not for nothing, they totally look like the should be called "the gay squad" those photos are just gay-tastic. :)
It's so true. They look like the Gay Mafia of Forks. Edward gets to be at the front because he's the prettiest ... and has the nicest shoes. In the first picture Alice also looks totally butch with her sassy cocked hip. She's probably Edward's gay First Lt.

Date: 2008-02-22 06:31 pm (UTC)Anyway I think I'm going to see the movie for 2 reasons:
1. in case I'll realize I've passed something really worth reading..
2. Robert is quite hot. ;)

Date: 2008-02-23 06:24 pm (UTC)So painfully. I got through the first hundred pages or so relatively quickly, but then I wanted to claw my eyes out. I'm so glad I didn't listen to my friend and by all three books at the same time because they had a boxset. I don't even want the other two in my eyes, let alone assaulting my retinas!
Anyway I think I'm going to see the movie for 2 reasons:
Word. As soon as Robert signed up I knew I would be seeing this. Robert playing a vampire is not something I will pass up, no matter how badly written the source material is. Also, I just plain like vampire movies and will sit through almost anyone. I hope the script writer is better than Meyer though.
