Rachel is as thick as two short planks when it comes to Ivy. She actively avoids the truth I think. I mean, anyone with eyes can see that Ivy is in love with her, and Rachel probably feels the same, but she refuses to see the obvious. When she met Piscary, the master vamp bespelled her, and Ivy just saying her name broke it! That doesn't happen! Wake the fuck up and smell the blood Rachel! Word. Like, I love Ivy's loyalty, but I almost think that Rachel kind of deserves it if Ivy goes away for while. Kind of an absense makes the heart grow fonder type of thing, where she realizes what she's missing. Of course, that would mean a book with very little Ivy and I don't really want that because I love Ivy like a fat kid loves cake. She's my precious. But yeah, Rachel totally takes Ivy, and her dreaminess for granted.

This. Which is so annoying! Like she needs to handle her shit! She's gotta deal with it, and even hope firmly on the denial train and leave Ivy the hell alone, or she's got to face her feelings and try for a relationship with Ivy like an adult. But the mixed signals, and co-dependence sucks and makes Rachel seem like a real douche.

I know, right! Even Piscary was thrown by it. EVERYONE can see what's going on between them except for Rachel.

This. Ivy is fucking dreamy. I know the Skimmer thing doesn't end up well, but it was nice to see that someone appreciates Ivy and thinks that she's a fucking catch! It was also awesome to see Ivy happy. That's one thing I wish I would see more of in the books, is Ivy and Rachel hanging out and actually acting like friends without DRAMA and ANGST permeating their every conversation. Like it doesn't need to be a whole chapter, but like something with them playing cards and shooting the shit like friends before they have to run off and go save someone or something. The friendship thing is being TOLD to me, but it's not being shown very well. It seems like they do nothing but walk on eggshells around each other.

Yup. All my annoyance stems from the fact that this vital part of their life is missing. When that interaction isn't shown, Rachel being in love with Ivy is hard to believe for me. Practically every scene with Rachel and Ivy is filled with emo angst and wanting blood yada yada yada bullshit. But you don't see any part of where they actually have fun together, whereas you see a lot of that with every other male character. You don't see Rachel mentally or emotionally feeling connected to Ivy, and truly enjoying her company. That just doesn't come across for me. And so when KH pulls the dumbshit coming back across the ley lines scene at the end of book 3, the disconnect stands out for me. And I'm really pissed because I would love to believe that those feeling were actually real for Rachel.

I always get the feeling that what Rachel feels for Ivy is more envy than admiration: for her wealth, looks, taste, her physical abilities. The rest of the time, she's dismissive of Ivy as she thinks Ivy needs her more that she needs Ivy. That's why Skimmer was a bit of a shock to her system. She didn't figure on competition coming her way. But then, she needn't worry, because KH needs Rachel to be the super awesome wonder witch, and that means no other character can in any way be interesting or good enough to be a viable threat. Bah!

Ok, so I couldn't hold my rant in until you finished the book. But tomorrow is Monday and work is going to suck the life right out of me, so I had to do it when I had time. I have the onerous task of deciding how I spend my very few free hours in the evenings on weekdays. Finish this series, or play Fable 2 on XBox? Considering my annoyance level with the series, I might end up opting more for XBox.
