This chick, right here!   VICKI NELSON from Blood Ties, ya'll!!!

1. They both own and operate a private detective firm runner business
2. They both have demon marks that they are ashamed of but earned fighting for truth justice and the goody-goody way
3. They are both spunky tough girls with hearts of gold
4. They both have wacky side-kicks who do leg work for them (Coreen and Jenks)
5. Mike is like a stand in for every one of Rachel's ill-fated boyfriends.  They try so hard but are destined for failure.
5. Rachel had a childhood sickness and Vicki has glasses. It humanizes them, ya'll! They're just like you and me!
7. They both use bravery as an excuse for doing exceedingly stupid things.
8. And they both have brooding vampire love interests who they are clearly meant to be with, but fight for some inexplicable reason! Only, Vicki might be more ridiculous in this case, cause she doesn't even have a vamp-scar or gay!panic to blame.  Then again, Vicki is also far less of a c-tease than Rachel is, so Henry suffers less.

Feast your eyes on this ...

Ah, I feel so much better now that I've figured it out :D

I thought he turned Vicki into a vampire, and now they couldn't be together cause vamps are solitary?

I only watch the show, I haven't read the books. I did hear Vicki becomes a vamp eventually, so you must be right about that. That's some epic K.H. level c-blocking right there.

Though it just strengthens the comparison because Rachel and Ivy can't get close to each other either because of Ivy's bloodlust, so you've got these people whose instincts are keeping them apart, even though they'd like to (even if Rachel is in denial) be together.

Yeah- that's how it was in the books, but I have no clue about the show.

*giggle, snort* Is it bad I had the same thought when I first learned about Blood Ties? Though I didn't do the Ivy/Henry comparison, so I had no idea why they clicked in my head until I read your post. xD And yeah, if I remember some of the summaries / stuff I read, he changes her to a vampire to save her life, but vamp-dominance in those books is through the roof, so it's impossible for them to be together for any real length of time without epic fighting/trying to kill each other. They actually manage to work together later on for one book, and everyone even comments how unusual it is that they can do that.

But I must give you love just for the smexy that is Christina Cox. *dies* So gorgeous.

No. I haven't read much Urban Fantasy (I've read the Hollows, and watch True Blood and Blood Ties), but it seems to be that the lead female character is almost always the same person, only they have a different hair colour.

Wow! That's an impressive cock-block. It almost makes Kim's cock-blocking seem like a value meal *shudder*. Urban Fantasy writers really love that shit, huh? Whatev, I'm gonna stick to the TV shows, where the cock blocking exists, but doesn't require as much of an investment.

But I must give you love just for the smexy that is Christina Cox.

Christina Cox is easy on the eyes, no doubt ;)

It's alright for a genre show. It's Birds of Prey/Dark Angel, not True Blood. I like it though, because it's the sort of genre that I'm interested in/can sit through almost all kinds of crap for.

Very aptly drawn parallels. I see it. Christina Cox is smokin'. So true. Seems that cockblocking is a core element in writing urban fantasy, who knew, huh? :D

Hey, not always! In my novels, there's tension, but they do end up together.

I KNOW! Some of the authors seem to cock-block way worse that Kim does as well! It almost makes me appreciated her, lol. But yeah, I think cockblocking is like a genre centerpiece.
