Because I totally would have watched it before this if I knew that:
and
That Dr. Laura Baker and Eve would have this Jennifer/Needy-esque tragic love affair!
I doubt the director will ever come out and be like "yeah, they were doing it" like Karyn Kusama did with Jennifer's Body, but Laura totally had a girl-boner for Eve and in the end Eve proved how much she totes loved Laura too.
I mean these movies are ridiculous, don't get me wrong. I saw Species when I was like 13 and the only thing I remembered about it before watching the series this weekend was that Natasha Henstridges boobs made me gay. Honestly, I remembered nothing about it other than her being naked a lot and being really, really hot ... and I was pretty sure that she was an alien or something, lol.
Still, as dumb as they are the movies (I and II at least, III so far is suffering due to the fact that there is no Marg, Natasha was only in it for like five minutes and her boobs didn't make an appearance, and the fact that Robin Dunne *shudder* is in it) are as entertaining as they are ridiculous and there ain't nothing wrong with that!
It's likely that only about three people will read it, but there will be fic for this pairing soon. I know, of all the things to inspire me to actually write after this dry spell it's Species II fic. Species II. If I wasn't so happy to have finished a piece I would be disappointed in myself.
Plot: An astronaut gets infected with alien DNA during the first mission on Mars and runs amok on earth. The surviving team members from the first film team up with a peaceful, genetically re-engineered Sil to track the monster down.
Link: Species II
Enjoy!

Date: 2009-10-06 09:28 pm (UTC)Two actually, but I don't think the third one is necessary viewing. The second one is at least on par with the first though, only it's a hell of a lot gayer and Laura is someone that I liked in the second one, lol.
There is something about these silly movies that's very appealing, especially if they've got added genetically engineered hottie and 'I was once KC on China Beach' blondie subtext.
This! There is nothing wrong with shallow viewing! Nothing at all. And they both really are so pretty ;)
Enjoy!

Date: 2009-10-07 06:57 pm (UTC)Why oh why couldn't Marg have brought the lesbian lust vibe she did so well in this and China Beach to CSI?

Date: 2009-10-07 08:20 pm (UTC)I know right! Especially Laura looked like she just wanted bury her face in Eve's bosom and never leave their pillowy warmth!
This was beyond obvious and therefore it is in desperate need of the femslash fic treatment.
This is what I'm saying! Too bad it came out so long ago. I'm going to contribute to the Laura/Eve movement, but 1998 was too long ago for others to join the train probably :(

You're really making me what to see China Beach. I keep hearing it was so subtexty, but I was like 10 or something when it was on so I don't remember it at all :(

Date: 2009-10-06 09:30 pm (UTC)Really, Natasha and the girls were the best thing about it. Watching it this time, it actually really cracked me up that Sil had like five lines of dialogue. I'm glad Natasha went on to projects where she actually got to act after this.
should i really give it another try? hm, but only if you promise there *will* be some fic!
There will be fic, I promise. And the movie is actually pretty entertaining. Ridiculous but entertaining. I don't think you'd regret giving it a whirl (as long as tentacles bursting out of people's stomachs won't scar you).

Date: 2009-10-07 08:17 pm (UTC)Alien is still one of my favorite movies ever. I had to wait until I was in my teens to watch it though. If I'd watched it when I was ten it would have scared me!
but i'll cover my eyes when a kitten or puppy gets hurt ;)
Me too! I could watch people cutting decapitated and shit, but if a puppy or kitten got hurt, I'd like slam my fist on the chair arm in disgust and be like "This is disgusting! I'm leaving!" I can't stand to see animals hurt

Date: 2009-10-06 09:35 pm (UTC)Thankfully that didn't bother me on rewatch. The early 90s special effects are so awful looking now that it was cartoon-y to me this time. I think I must have either covered my eyes or mentally blocked that part though, cause I didn't remember it. I was a real wimp when it came to blood and gore back then.
That visual apparently horrified me so much that it blocked out all the nudity.
That's the saddest thing I've heard all day. The nudity was Species to me. Natasha Henstridge is honestly, almost painfully good-looking in this movie.
Or, maybe it was because my mom covered my eyes during the sex scenes, though she felt no such compulsion to do so during the scenes of intense violence.
*sigh* Just like society at large. I'm guilty of this too. I'll cover up Lady Macbeth's ladies when showing it in class, but then I'll just let them watch a garroting scene. It's messed up, but you know parents will complain about boobs before they will about garroting.

Thank you. I'm editing now, so it should be up tomorrow. I hope you like it *nervously wipes brow*

Date: 2009-10-07 01:21 am (UTC)This. Their scenes had been getting progressively gayer and gayer and then *BAM* Eve escaped. Though I have to say, Eve brought the gay back when she was all like, "Not my Laura you bastard!" and straight up stabbed the dude alien to protect Laura.

Date: 2009-10-07 01:25 am (UTC)lol, that's definitely true for the first one. I would argue that Marg is also worth watching in the second one though. I didn't care for Laura much in the first one, but she rocked my socks in the second one (probably because she got so gay, lol). The movies definitely hinge on Natasha being so hot though (which is why I haven't made it through the third one yet. Sunny Maebry is pretty and all, but she's no Natasha Henstridge).

Yeah, that guy was a dick. And boring. His plot-line isn't all that interesting, but I'd suggest re-watching for the gay.

Date: 2009-10-07 01:20 am (UTC)Seriously though, if you want to be knocked off of your feet by sheer good looks alone, download the first Species (1995). Natasha is always stunning, but in the first movie her looks border on god-like.

Date: 2009-10-07 03:38 am (UTC)Oooh, what a delicious little tidbit. It is now TRUTH as far as I am concerned and will not listen to anyone trying to dispute it.
I was so sad that Natasha's character in "Ghosts of Mars" didn't take up Pam Grier's offer to tap dat. Though Clea Duvall's characters clear girl-boner for Pam Grier somewhat made up for it.
edited because there is a big difference between 'not' and 'now'.

Date: 2009-10-07 08:15 pm (UTC)That was number II.
About all I remember from I was Michael Madsen suggesting that the scientists didn't get out much if they thought a female test subject would be weaker and more pliable.
That comment was the best thing Michael Madsen's character did the whole movie. Seriously, other than Forrest Whitaker's character, the empath, all of the other members of the crack team assigned to capture/kill Sil were idiots.

and i didn't know there was a sequel. thanks for the dl link. taking it :)
Enjoy! The Eve/Laura subtext should totally make out for the fact that there is less of Natasha's fabulous rack!
