Notes:  I haven't watched it yet so I can't comment on the quality of the film, but it has Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried in it making out which is more than enough of a reason for me to post it!

Watched it!  Loved it!

TORONTO! (sorry, I had to.  I was having Toronto!gasms the whole way through the movie.  Oh, my home and native city you looked so beautiful!)

But mostly, "WOW".  Amanda Seyfried was amazing!  I mean she's always good but this movie reminded that I sometimes forget just how good she is.  Her performance was masterful.  And Julianne Moore was phenomenal as well.  God, I just love looking at her.  I've never known someone who could make "rich, middle-aged, white-lady angst" so compelling.  And she and Amanda on-screen together are utterly compelling and enthralling.

This is obviously not a feel-good lesbian film, Catherine and Chloe don't end up sitting on a park bench together at the end playfully fighting over who's going to carry the baby, but to me it is a good film.  It seems like this is a very divisive film, an ' either you loved it, or you hated it' scenario - much like one of my favorite films of 2009 Where the Wild Things Are.  That movies produced a really visceral reaction in me that I can't really intelligibly article to others, it just connected with me (much like the not so divisive Up in the Air) and Chloe connected with me powerfully as well.

But I'm rambling, so in conclusion ... I loved it!

I just finished watching it and I actually liked it. I didn't love the end, and was far too much in line with the classic Hollywood "punish the lesbian with DEATH" pattern of film-making, but the acting was so good that I couldn't help really enjoying the film. Amanda and Julianne were just so good.

I agree, the performances, especially by the two leads, were excellent. It's just a pity the storyline was one big cliche. I know it's a re-make, but I've never seen the French version, and yet I've still seen this exact same story before - and I don't even mean the usual psycho-lonely-soon-to-be-dead lesbian, I mean the entire story. If they'd have just put a little more effort into originality, this could have been a great film, but as it was I was somewhat disappointed.

I just finished it and really liked it. If you liked "Cracks" I think you'll enjoy this one. It's left me in the same, "Oh shit! What the ... I don't even ... but I loved it!" mood that "Cracks" did.

Thanks! The showings have been very scarce in my neck of the woods, so this is a big help! :D

Frankly, between getting to sex up Liam Neeson AND Julianne Moore, I REALLY wanna be Amanda Seyfried now /D

And yes, I would love to be Amanda Seyfried as well. Not only because she got to sex up Liam and Julianne, but because it would mean that I was almost painfully beautiful, and incredibly, amazingly, wondrously talented as well! Seriously, that girl is so good.

Yeah, it's an English version of "Nathalie".

Also, it's an .avi file so it should work on a mac. I've got an PC, but my friend with a mac is always able to play my .avi files on his mac.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Really. It's like Fatal Attraction with women.

Amanda Seyfried is so HOT in it, and Julianne Moore is beautiful as always. I definitely recommend you see it ASAP. Not a bad story line, either.

I know, right! Those things are amazing. I just love staring at Julianne's face. Katherine worrying about her desirability in the film just boggled my mind. Julianne is so stunning I just can't fathom anyone not being in awe of her.

I just watched it and edited the post with my review of it. I really enjoyed the movie however. It does seem to be splitting people's opinions, but I fell of the favorable side. In any case, the movie is beautifully shot and wonderfully acted! It's not something that you're going to need to get drunk to make your way through, lol.

I actually saw this in the theatre and I remember leaving thinking "Wow, that was a Lifetime Lesbian movie of the Week with some crazy good acting and beautiful photography" There were actual several points when the audience started laughing and they were not definitely not 'oh we're laughing with you, not at' moments.

The performances by Moore and Seyfried defintely elevated the material. I get what the director and the actors were going for in this film. The contrast of two women feeling invisibile; one because she believes her beauty and allure has faded and the other because her beauty is so vibrant and distracting that no one can see beyond it. And that as a premise would have been enough, if the writer and director had decided to focus on that. But instead they decided to turn what could have been an interesting meditation on the nature of physical beauty, into a thriller that doesn't really thrill since that aspect was so predictable.

I'm gonna watch it again and see if I feel the same way. Maybe I was just on my period and feeling unecessarily hostile. ;-) As always I am awash with gratitude at your generosity. You make me smile like rainbows and unicorns!

I really couldn't relate to Chloe's character, that might have been one of the main weaknesses of the movie. I just couldn't really understand her and the movie never told me why did she go to such extremes. Why was she so emotionless in the beginning? Just what were her mother issues? Why did the wife wear the hairpin at the end? It's hard to relate to any characters feelings if their cause isn't shown at any point.

First "Cracks"...then THIS!

They don't want to stop fucking my mind, do they?

These are kind of film that got me to keep thinking about for days after finished it or even rewatch it again...and again.

Sad? Depressing? Yes. But there's something so alluring. Even though the ending always get me upset, I still like these films more than some light/romantic films.

Maybe I have some soft spot for a dark/crazy character.

I totally feel the same way. Light/romantic films rarely stay with me for days/weeks/months after I see them. The angst stays with me though, especially beautifully filmed, entrancing angst.

Are you me? LOL. I totally have a soft spot for dark/crazy characters too. They just fascinate. Scare me a little bit, but in an entrancing way.

ok I havent seen the trailer for the movie or seen it yet but I have been hearing things left and right, and I just want to get things str8 cause right now I'm too tired to think much but awake enough that I'm thinking bout this and its still keeping me up a lil longer, so moore hires amanda to seduce liam but amanda also seduces moore and then shit breaks loose? tell me if I'm close or something, oh and does amanda sleep with moore or not?

I really really want to see cracks when I first came across the trailer I watched it like a billion times even though it made the teacher like some molester lesbian but I still liked the fact that there was a female predator cause one you dont see that often and even when shes a obvious predator she still has a sexy allure to her ( I wouldnt deny the fact that the actress playing her is a total sex-crave-bot that her character could have killed someone violently and I could careless and still want her to teach me in that short skirt tight shirt and sexy voice anytime of day lol).

Yeah, that's the basic plot of the movie, but of course because it's a thriller things aren't exactly as they seem.

And yes, there is a love scene between Moore and Seyfried.

( I wouldnt deny the fact that the actress playing her is a total sex-crave-bot that her character could have killed someone violently and I could careless and still want her to teach me in that short skirt tight shirt and sexy voice anytime of day lol).

LOL! Oh my god, I understand completely. Miss G is coocoo bananas and a total molester but when I watch the beginning of the movie I would still love to be on her swim team so that I could gaze at her and listen to her all day. I totally identified with Radfield and her crazy crush on Miss G.

If you liked Cracks and Miss G, I think you'll also enjoy Chloe and the Chloe character.

yeah I understand too for Radfield even though she was kinda cooco herself her and Miss G would have been a good nutty pair togather. minus the whole molesting thing of course lol bt I dont think Radfield would mind lol

Thanks for the DL, I've been waiting to see this for months and now that I finally have, it's actually exceeded my expectations.

I've always had an appreciation for Julianne Moore, she reminds me a lot of Dianne Lane but just edgier. But Amanda, Amanda made this movie for me. And OMG her eyes and just, she was so captivating. I was really impressed as well.

This. She was riveting. I couldn't take my eyes off of her in her scenes, and when you're acting opposite Julianne Moore who is stunning and enchanting as well, that is a major accomplishment.

saw "nathalie" first...and i like the subtlety of that a bit more. i'm actually a fan of atom egoyan's stuff...he manages to capture tragedy and melancholy is this oddly beautiful way. and i think that's kind of the point to this. i don't see it so much as a clichéd "cautionary lesbian" tale...i think it's more of a clichéd obsessive love tale that just so happens to have a lesbian slant. anyhoo, it just so happens that i was in toronto last weekend and got to walk the streets of downtown TO and i did recognize some things in the film and that was pretty neat...love your black squirrels and and weirdly coloured taxis ;)

This. Movie.

I liked it. I was a little cautious going into it, but the performances by both actresses were really, really good - and I think it was this that really made it a good movie, for me. I loved the music and the cinematography (?), though I also thought it took a turn for the "thriller" side really quickly. There were some things I wished could have been addressed, such as why Catherine ended up wearing the pin at the end of the movie (or at least, give us more insight into that so we can understand her reasoning for doing so - if a crazy lesbian stalker tried to kill me with said pin, I'm not sure I'd be so forgiving so quickly).

Yeah, Catherine's actions at the end could have used a little exposition, but I just took it as a sign Chloe was right in what she had said before and Catherine did have some sort of feelings for her. Not feelings that would have made her leave her family, but she had engaged in a sort of emotional (and at least one time, sexual) affair with Chloe and so it wasn't like Catherine could just forget her with a snap of her fingers.

That, and in a crazy way, Chloe and her actions seemed to bring Catherine's family closer together by forcing them to confront issues they had been ignoring/scared to address, and so Chloe actually ended up saving her marriage. So, I figured the pin was maybe Catherine's way of acknowledging that and honoring Chloe (even though Chloe did go batshit in the end).

yeah I just watched it and I agree I freaken luv it! I just couldnt stop looking at Moore and Seyfried and when the luv scene came up I couldnt tell who I was more jealous of Moore or Seyfried lol. The acting was awsome and Seyfried's eyes so made the movie lol. I even wanted to cry when she left Moore's office very upset even after she had sent her flowers, the look of being completely shot down on her face really made me want to squeal and aww in sadness.
