Legend of the Seeker - 2x21 - Unbroken
May. 16th, 2010 01:29 amNOT ENOUGH CARA!
This episode was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I can't really bring myself to say that it was a bad episode, because it wasn't. It's just that following on the heels of eps like "Princess", "Torn", "Desecrated", "Extinction" and "Eternity" it was kind of a letdown. And when you add to that that this episode could be the second last episode of the series ever, my overall reaction was ...

Things started out well enough. I liked the fight with the sisters of the dark by the rift a lot, and of course Cara eyefuxing the hell out of Dahlia when Rahl was kissing her was made of win (as was Dahlia's pleased, "That's my girl!" expression). Dahlia's death was heartbreaking (Laura Bent did a fantastic job with Dahlia when she was confessed and talking with Kahlan) but I kind of knew it was coming. Cara's reaction to it, and the fact that she let herself get distracted enough to be knocked out because it was Dahlia, Dahlia, made me all teary eyed.
I even got a kick out of Zedd's dramatic moment ruining picnic's for people all over the midlands as he cast his spell. Though the best part of it was Cara just kind of looking up at the sky all unimpressed like

"Ooh, clouds. Bored now. Don't bother inviting me to your next party, I wish I hadn't come to this one."
Then, the mixed bag-edness came in.
I actually really liked the Richard/Kahlan scenes. They were so happy, and honestly those are two people who deserve to be happy. The "I'm pregnant"/"It's only been three days" conversation was insanely cute, and Bridget's smile! Bridget's smile, people! Still hated Craigy-poo's hair though. Seeing the short-hair on Richard again really made me realize why I lusted after him in the first season, and then flashing back to the long-hair really explained why I don't now. Shallow, but true.
I liked seeing Jennsen again, and was actually really sad when she bit it.
And Richard's, "I have the power of Ordin, nothing can ever go wrong ever again" attitude was classic Richard to be honest. It was the same part of his personality that made me coo, "He's such a good guy" when he refused to give up on Cara because she would have gone to the ends of the earth for him. And it's the same part of his personality that often makes me want to throttle him, because the world just does not work the way Richard thinks it should.
About the Return of Leo however, I was like ...

I was like WTF, where did this bastard come from again and can he please go back! I liked Leo the first time around but I did not need him in the possibly penultimate episode of the series cock-blocking the GoGA.
But more than anything else, I hated Zedd's retconning of the Cara/Leo thing. I was very ...

about it. It's like, Zedd Leo was not the fucking love of Cara's life, and goddamn fate did not send him back to her. Leo made some funny jokes that made Cara smile, they hooked up in a cave that one time, and then he died. Did they have potential? Hells yeah. Did she like him? Hells yeah. Was she in love with him? Fuck no.
And I guess the other thing that disappointed me about Cara's storyline was that she wasn't with Dahlia when she was all widowed. That's mostly my fault because I spent the whole time Cara wasn't on-screen imagining how cute it would be to see Dahlia and widow!Cara raising her kids together so when they weren't I was all ...

I raged a little less when I realized Dahlia had still been taken as child and was Mord'Sith and I thought that maybe all hope wasn't lost when Dahlia heard Cara's name at the temple and got all schmoopy for a second, but then Cara got three arrows in her and my new dreams of a Cara/Dahlia reunion were dashed again (unless Dahlia actually does give Cara the breath of life to bring her back, like she does in my dream world).
The whole thing just smacked a little of ... F/F = [Katy Perry]It's not what good girls do[/KP], and M/F = true love. I don't think the writers were consciously trying to express that, but it was there and I'm judging them.

Miranda Priestly and I do NOT approve of such shenanigans, intentional or not.
Tabrett Bethell is a golden goddesss!
Can we just talk about how awesome this woman is a little more. I really enjoyed her performance as Alt!Cara. She managed to really imbue Alt!Cara with some very recognizable Cara mannerisms, but she also really managed to soften those characteristics out in a way that was true to the new timeline. I loved how even her voice was different, softer and higher pitched (and slightly more Aussie than usual lol). Cara growl-talks because of her pain, ya'll! And that last scene where she was begging for her life *heart = broken*
Next week looks ... WHAT? I DON'T EVEN! Can't wait, shit looks like it's getting real and Cara seems to be back with the gang which makes me happy.
Really, not a bad episode, it just suffered from the episodes that proceeded it being ridiculously awesome.

Date: 2010-05-16 06:10 am (UTC)She was amazing! I really enjoyed seeing Tab get to freely express some emotions in this episode. She's just as good even when she's not being a BAMF! Any Cara is a dreamy Cara it seems.
'm still all about the Tab/Bridget chemistry
This. Those two have AMAZING chemistry together. There's not getting past it. They're both wonderful actresses and work well with all their co-stars/guest stars, but there is something special when they are on screen together.
But yay for it anyway.
Truth!
