Nikita - 1x02 - 2.0

Nikita has officially won me over.

I adore the Nikita/Alex relationship.  I wasn’t sure how they were going to handle it at the end of last episode, and I’m so happy that there is a genuine bond of friendship and caring between them.  I have such a thing for mentor/pupil relationships, so the Nikita/Alex relationship is very relevant to my interests.  But beyond it hitting on one of my kinks, I really liked that we got to see a softer side to Nikita and get a little insight into her inner world.

I already had a big ass girl!crush on Maggie Q, but the more I see of her as Nikita the bigger the crush is getting.  The doting mentor/big sister/protect girlfriend thing in combination with her being totally kickass, confident, snarky and tank-top loving is doing very wonderful things to in my pants.

I loved all the Nikita/Alex flashbacks (how fucking fierce was Nikita coming to Alex's rescue in that crack den?), but that last flashback between Nikita and Alex ... guh.  Bravo, Lyndsy Fonseca you brought it like a champ.  When Alex was screaming at Nikita to let her die because her family was dead and she had nothing to live for I got a little misty-eyed.  And then another awesome bomb was dropped right after with Nikita telling her that she had been searching for her for two years, that she knew who killed Alex’s parents and that Alex therefore had something to live for: revenge.

I’m enjoying the show kickass finale scenes.  Both the episodes have ended on a note that has me asking, “Is it next week yet?”

RANDOM COMMENT:  Nikita/Maggie Q is in fierce competition right now with Morgause/Emilia Fox for my favorite Fierce-As-Hell-Protectress.  I think Morgause is still in the lead right now, but Nikita is doing a mighty fine job giving her some competition.
 

Other things that I enjoyed included:

I liked Alex being resourceful.  Throwing the chair at the computer monitor during the fight to erase the evidence of her messaging Nikita was quick thinking. 

I liked that Amanda had more to do than just flirt with Alex (not that there’s anything remotely wrong with that) and do her make-up.  Seeing Amanda walk into the room in her pumps and dress saying that she got him to talk as she pulled off a pair of latex gloves was chilling (my mind automatically went there since Amanda did not have a drop of blood on her or her gloves) but also alluring (it’s Melinda Clarke after all, everything she does is kind of hot!)  I won't mind seeing more of "The Inquisitor".

I liked ... Shane West, surprisingly.  The last time I enjoyed Shane West is anything was never, so I’m pleasantly surprised that he’s not bugging me at all in this show.   This is very happy-making, because I thought that he was going to hamper my ability to enjoy the show.

What I didn’t enjoy so much:

Birkoff is not charming in the least.  I like Aaron Stanford (and his acting is great here, that scene where he freaked out at the trainees was some A+ acting), but this character annoys the shit out of me.  I think he’s supposed to be irritating though, so I can’t really complain that much.

The writers need to lighten up on Jaden being such a bitch.  She’s way too High School for the situation these people are in.  She is a trainee for a clandestine government organization and could be killed at any moment without any repercussion.  Starting a fight because Alex got picked first for a mission (a mission Jaden knew nothing about, and if she had known about probably wouldn’t have wanted it anyway) was beyond stupid.

Overall, thank goodness for this show.  Not just because it’s enjoyable, but because I can now drop Covert Affairs without feeling like I’m missing out on some awesome female spy action.  I’ll miss you Joan/Kari Matchett, but Covert Affairs has been feeling like a chore for about four episodes now and I’ve been waiting for an excuse to jump ship.

Ok, so I totally agree with you about Covert Affairs. It got to the point where I was only watching it for backround noise. I deleted it off my DVR finally last week, and have to say, wasn't the least bit sad for doing so.

Nikita wasn't initially on my radar, but I watch the Vampire Diaries (GASP forgive me) and for whatever reason last week I didn't change the channel when it was over. LOVED IT! I think it was this episode that made go "like oh my gawd ya'll!" Nikita/Alex is WIN and anything Melinda Clarke is in I'm totes like GLUED TO THE SCREEN.

So in conclusion, I'll totally ride this....um..ride with you :D

Yeah, Covert Affairs has been a real stink fest for a while now. I was never all that enamored with it to begin with, but the quality of the episodes has been steadily dropping and I've barely been able to finish the last few episodes (doing other things during it is the only way I've stayed awake).

Hey, I watch Vampire Diaries too so there'll be no judgment on my end. That show is a real guilty pleasure for me. I love the double feature of Vampire Diaries and Nikita.

But yeah, this episode of Nikita totally made me sit up and be like "Hells yeah!" I liked the pilot, but I REALLY liked this episode.

I can't wait to take this ride together, lol!

Ooh, you definitely want to download. I thought this episode was better than the pilot.

As for Birkoff, for some reason I found him douchey this episode. The first scene with him definitely didn't win me over. Aaron's a good enough actor that next episode I could completely change my mind about the character again though.

P.S. Love the icon. I remember my teenage self getting so excited about that episode.

Well Birkoff was a little shit in the original series. An endearing little shit, but still a little shit. Perhaps they are taking the "endearing" part out.

Heh, my teenage self got pretty excited as well. It's kind of sad but that show saw me through puberty...and figuring out that I liked women. :P

Also, I have to say, Melinda is way hotter now. I wouldn't have believed it if you'd told me that at the time Xena was on the air, but Melinda has gotten better and better with age.

Between this Xena tie in and that new picture of Lucy dressed up in one of her old Xena costumes for charity, I'm totally nostalgic for Xena. *sigh*

Loved this ep of Nikita. Definitely one of my fave new shows and right after Vampire Diaries. Speaking of Vampire Diaries, is it just me or is the main actress so much hotter when playing Katherine? What a difference some curls and some attitude makes. Back to Nikita though, I almosted cried at the end there. I thought the acting was great. And Maggie Q, so super hot. Can't wait for next week already. Thursday is a great night for tv!

Nina Dobrev is much more fun to watch as Katherine, but I think that's just because Katherine is a more engaging character. As "the good girl" Elena is often boring. I don't really think it's Nina's fault, the character is just written that way. As Katherine she actually has something to latch onto and she does well with it.

And back to Nikita, my eyes did fully well up with tears. I effing love all of the flashback scenes, not to mention Nikita's obvious concern over Alex in the present day as well. Counting down to next week!

HaHa!! Thank you for reminding me that I'd totally forgotten all about Covert Affairs because, in comparison to Nikita, it definitely pales in comparison.

I love that this show has so quickly said the heart of it is Nikita/Alex. MY biggest fear was that they'd call it Nikita then make it all about Michael. And I know this is blasphemy but I enjoy Shane West over Roy Dupruis.. as long as he doesn't, you know, cry tears of blood or something.

In comparison Covert Affairs pales to just about everything. I'm honestly angry at the show for being so goddamn boring. The only way I could get through the last episode was to put away my laundry while I was doing it. Bonus is my laundry got put away, but how boring is a show when I would rather fold clothes than watch it.

This. I didn't invest myself at all in Nikita/Alex last week because I had no idea who the writers would play it and didn't want to set myself up for disappointment, so this week made me extremely happy.

It's not blasphemy to me! I thought Roy Dupuis was boring at hell as Michael. He always seemed like he was on the verge of falling asleep when delivering his lines and consequently I felt like napping too. I know he's a scared cow in Nikita fandom, but I've been meh about him forever. I'm more than happy with Shane West (which is something I never thought I'd type).

Heh, the hard part is going to be when Fringe comes back and deciding which one I watch first!

Oh, I know. Thursaday's are gonna be jam packed for me. I have to say though, I think The Dunham will win out. I'll watch Fringe and then watch my PVR of Nikita. Fringe has been with me for so much longer that I have to give it the live viewing.

Yeah, Covert Affairs never makes sense to me. I always start out paying attention, and then it never makes any sense and I get bored and end up having the episode on in the background when I do something else.

I usually really like Piper Perabo, but Annie is so effing boring. The writing for this show is just shit. And the show isn't even really about Annie anymore, lately it's been all about the Amazing Adventures of Ben Mercer. I don't even think I'm gonna watch the next episode TBH.

I haven't watched the two-part finale yet and I'm not very motivated to :\ but Anne Dudek has been getting more screentime lately which is awesome (I want Rachel to walk in on Olivia while she's in the bathtub too).

ugh, the MEN on this show (bar Auggie) are just...IDEK WHAT TO SAY. Annie's chemistry with both Sri Lankan loverboy Ben Mercer and Heroes dude is non-existent, and Joan's husband just seems like such a jerk. I can't even be arsed to remember their names.

I'll have to make use of all four DVR channels. It's going to get busy! I'm torn about scheduling ass-kicking women marathons vs savoring the shows one at a time, through the week, esp. with Frings and this showing being on at the same time.

I'm in love with the show. *happ sigh* Never cared about the original show, so this is quite a surprise.

Love the Nikita/Alex relationship but I expect it to explode all over the place.

I actually like Birkhoff, he seems more like a tough love guy. I mean, he basically gave Alex time to practise though he could improve and wouldn't get into more problems. And considering his convo with Nikita in the pilot ep, I'm guessing he had a good relationship with her. But maybe it's just my Stanford love talking. :D
