New Lost Girl! Oh, yeah.
So there is Dr. Lauren, but I'll warn you now that there's not a lot of her. And what you see of her will make you want to punch Bo square in the face (more than usual).
To lift your spirits I will say that the Succubus (Saskia? Though most of the time it sounds like Bo is saying Seska) that Bo meets in this episode is awesome! The actress playing her was brilliant and the character was tons of fun and worked really well with Bo. They are a fun combo to watch together.

Thoughts:
Mmm, Knives. Bo cleaning swords with her legs wide open while she drinks wine is HOT! The fact that she's wearing the gayest vest in world while doing this also helps!
Kenzi: Honey, if I could give you the six inch all of your problems would be solved.
LOL Kenzi, if you don't want me to ship you and Bo then don't say things like that while grinding up on her.
Bo: I've tried. Men, women, humans, fae. That one time with a goat. *pause* Kidding.
Good one, Bo. Way to funny.
Ooh, the case this week starts out creepy!
Bo's like a 15 year old child. My god. No wonder she gets along so well with Kenzi.
The Bo and Lauren reunion is painful and awkward, you guys! Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch. I suppose the bright side is that Bo cared enough about Lauren to still be acting like an immature bitch about what happened? And her anger means that she still cares a lot ... maybe ... possibly ...? *sigh*
Seriously, it was painful to watch. It was like watching an episode of The Office (UK). I almost couldn't look at the screen I was squirming so much. I just wanted to hug Lauren forever (and I've already written about my wanting to punch Bo square in the face).
(It was amusing though, how when Lauren said, "It appeared consensual" (in relation to sex a murder victim had) that Lauren was tense, as if she just knew it would send Bo into a complete shit-fit (which of course it did).)
Bo: I've got three words: Lauren, kiss-my-ass. *pause* Lotta hyphen's in that last one.
Damn Bo, you so dumb.
Kenzi: Little guy .. big mouth ... must knoooooow!
LOL OMG THAT LINE WAS PERFECTLY KENZI! I love how painful it was for her NOT to be able to talk!
OMG Bo is so fucking melodramatic. It's like watching watching a girl version of Big (with Tom Hanks) where Josh Baskin spends all of his time whining about how complicated things are with the hot people who wanna sex him up instead of doing fun things.
Kenzi: Set phasers to DOUCHE.
LOL Kenzi! I love you.
Oooh, succubus strut. Me likey. Eying Bo sexily. Me likey even more.
Kenzi, quoting Ludacris during that speed dating date was HILARIOUS! "Regret is for suckas, for suckas, for suckas. Regret is for suckas, for suckas like you ... bitch!"
Kenzi: Ver-gina
I love that bitches Occupations for Succubae List. Perfection.
Succubus: (incredulously) You work?
LOL what an awesome line!
Succubus: Honey! Succubus don't work! *laughs airily*
Oh, man. I want the show to be about this chick! Her life seems awesome.
[Upon being asked by Bo is she could sense any Fae the night she was in the bar.]
Succubus: Sorry, Fae-dar isn't really a succubus gift.
LOL, this bitch is killing me! She's so FABULOUS!
Succubus: Besides, I wanna see you in action Nancy Drew! It'll be interesting to see how the other side (people who work) lives.
LOL, seriously. Showcase, can we keep her? PLEASE!
*Is suddenly scared that that awkward scene of Dr. Lauren is the only Dr. Lauren we'll get *shivers* Cannot unthink that thought*
Bo looking at Other!Succubus as she Succubus'd that guy was pretty hot. It reminded me of Cara kissing Darken Rahl while looking at Dahlia (only not as awesome) and anything that reminds me that is a-okay in my books.
Succubus: You're kidding right! You don't actually live like this, do you?
LOL. Oh, you.
HA HA, BO! A notepad? You really are adorable sometimes (*narrows eyes* sometimes!).
OH MAN, other!succubus doesn't sleep with succubus' WHAAAAAA. Why would you do that to me show? Is it cause it would make me happy? I mean, "I'm a novelty whore" was a great line, but not good enough for me to be happy about you taking away MORE girl-on-girl action! Ahhhhhhh. Why do you keep cock-blocking the GOGA!?!?!! I swear to God, it's like Kim Harrison is a consultant on this show or something! Other!Succubus is totally gonna get Skimmer'd!
Is other succubus named Seska? Cause if so, I love her even more than before! I'mma just call her Seska from now on. It's my post I can do what I want to!
*Random: The Tourist seems like it'll be a good movie*
Oh, man, this commercial break is killing me! Bring the show back already!
Heh, there was a commercial for something called DYSON BALL on right before Dyson showed up on screen.
WHY'S DYSON BEING SO NICE? HE'S MAKING ME ... LIKE HIM! Ewww. I do love that Bo has, like, Succubus!glow after spending time around Seska though. Awesome.
What's an abastar? Ugh, I hate it when shows do that. At least Bo actually ran instead of pulling her usual Bo-ness and standing around while arguing about something.
"Women mostly. Quelle surprise. Puritan bastards." Oh, Seska. Lean and snark, baby. Lean and snark.
Seska: This is fun, maybe I should get a hobby.
Bo: I'm converting you.
Seska: Not if I convert you first.
[Girly slaps ensue]
OH, Bo/Seska I LOVE YOU TOGETHER! SHOW DO NOT TAKE SESKA AWAY FROM ME!
Bo and Seska hunting together is HAWT!
So her name is Saskia? Aw. I got really found of the idea of her being called Seska. Way to pronunciate for the first time 40 minutes in Anna Silk.
Un-Succubusing (de-succubusing? Discuss) is pretty hot too!
Me likey the implication of un-Succubusing for Bo/Lauren once they get back together. It means that Bo won't have to worry so much about losing control with Lauren, because if she takes a bit too much she can just give the energy right back to Lauren.
Bo's glowing eyes are stupidly hot.
"Bad news Bert!" OMG SASKIA Y ARE YOU SO BADASS! "Because I'm pretty goddamn shameless!"
"I'm thinking he's not gonna like this threesome. At all." Ha ha, Bo. Good one.
You guise, I love Bo and Saskia together so much. They don't even need to make-out, Saskia just needs to be all sweet and mentorly with Bo, while they investigate things together and then go party. The investigation stuff has been so fun this week!
Bo, I'm sorry you are so dumb. For real. You are really, really dumb. Giving up actually being to learn about what you are and how to control your powers and increase them to save the life of a woman hating, Dark Fae murderer who could get Saskia hurt if he tells the Morrigan about her attacking him to protect you is JUST DUMB!
Saskia and Lauren should commiserate about BO BEING A JUDGMENTAL DUMB!
WOW BO YOU ARE A DOUCHE! In so many ways. Not only did that 'FUCK YOU, LAUREN' hug hurt Lauren, it was hurtful to Dyson too because of how obviously a 'FUCK YOU, LAUREN' hug it was, which makes him feel like he's being used. DOUCHE ALL OVER THE PLACE. Shoving him away like that at the last second before storming away was also very mature.
This episode more than any other has really gotten across the idea of how emotionally stunted Bo is. The idea that the show-runner talked of about Bo essentially being a 15 year girl (or at least having the social skills of one). Kenzi actually comes across as much more mature most of the time.
I love Bo's sulky pose. That's the second time we've seen her sulking like that.
Bo and Kenzi really are like college roommates. Bo looking at Saskia's jacket longingly .... promising (though it was also kind of douchey). It undoes the hurt a little bit. But, I still feel that with how soddily this show is written that Saskia will not be mentioned again all season.
Preview for next week:
A whole lotta Dyson shirtless and growling while showing off his fangs. Dyson's seems angry about stuff and people think he killed some dude. Bo seems unsure whether he killed that dude, Trick seems convinced he's going to be executed for killing that one dude, Hale says he's killed lots of dudes before this one and lots of people don't like him because of all of his dude-killing, and EMMANUELLE VARGIER (aka the Morrigan) wants his head.
No shots of Dr. Lauren were present. This usually means there is no Dr. Lauren. I am concerned.

Date: 2010-11-22 04:10 am (UTC)After this ep., my dream plot line is for Lauren to give Bo the finger and get together with someone else. Srsly, Dr. Hotpants deserves sooo much better. How bout team Lauren+Saskia? Saskia can do that neat energy recycling trick, and she targets unusual(?) people (can't be too many human fae doctors out there). Not to mention they'd be a pretty kick ass team.

So true. Bo is such a douche most of the time. A dumb, immature douche. Other than Bo being pretty, it's getting hard to see what Lauren even sees in her anymore.

I would love to see Lauren/Saskia hook-up. The only problem with that is that Lauren is Light Fae, while Saskia is Dark Fae, so Saskia probably wouldn't bother with her. Also, Saskia and Lauren would be so competent and impressive together that Bo's inept fumbling of her way through cases would be rendered useless because of how quickly L/S handled shit (before going off to hot sex of course!)

Oh, I know. I can't even think about that series without getting enraged. I still love Ivy, but thinking about Rachel just makes me RAGE. Bo is Racheling her way through "Lost Girl" and it's seriously starting to make me dislike Bo as much as I dislike Rachel.

Date: 2010-11-22 05:17 am (UTC)Oh, good lord I know. It's like I wish they had never even teased with the Lauren/Bo stuff because then I would be able to enjoy the show for fluffy, stupid entertainment instead of wanting more from it. Honestly, it'd probably be easier to ship Bo/Lauren if they'd just kept them as friends who sometimes have ambiguously flirty conversations with each other.
Unless Bo figures her shit out and gets a clue about how to treat people, I think my Bo/Lauren ship has been broken.
I'm with you on this. It's getting hard to like Bo, let alone ship her with anyone (honestly, at this point not only do I think Lauren deserves better, I think Dyson deserves better as well). Bo just comes across as way too immature for an adult relationship.
I need to go write some fic to make me feel better. ;(
Do it! Do it!

Date: 2010-11-22 10:53 pm (UTC)Apparently, Zoie Palmer has been confirmed for Season 2 so I don't think Lauren's going anywhere, and even though Bo and Lauren are on bad terms this episode (mostly due to Bo's immaturity), Bo's continued anger seems to indicate that she cared strongly for Lauren and still does which is why she's being such a punk.
I know as femslashers we've been programmed to be disappointed by TV, but I wouldn't write this show off. The storyline might not be perfect, but its a canon F/F relationship on a genre show that has been going on since the first episode and seems likely to continue for a while, which makes it pretty much the only story of its kind on air right now (that I know of at least).
I would be all over that Dr. Hot Pants spin-off though. Especially if Saskia became her BFF/partner in crime.

Date: 2010-11-23 03:18 pm (UTC)I loved Kenzi's reaction to that one. Priceless. But my favorite is the one at the bar, during the speed date, while she talks with some eastern accent and robs her date's watch at the same time. Hilarious. Actually Kenzi was absolutely great in this ep., even if her part of the plot was weak. The character has real potential, she also deserves better than just being Bo's sidekick.
I see what you mean. I wanted to punch her half of the time. But I'm also surprised at how easily and fast she went to trust the Succubus. Sure, she's one of her kind, but that's not enough to explain it. Bo deeply needs someone to give her clues about who she really is and most of all to accept herself. She seemed to have the same easy trust with Lauren and Dyson on the romantic level. All the whining is her way to hade the deep hurt, cause I don't feel she knows how to voice her feelings. Immature indeed, but touching as well.
Damn, only 2 scenes with Lauren. That's hard. At least we know why there was no Lauren last week. No Lauren for Bo (since she doesn't return her call), so no Lauren for us. I can't wait for her to finally explain to Bo. And I love how Lauren quietly states that they were going to have sex eventually anyway.
I don't completely agree with you on that one. I think Bo is trying to set up some rules for herself that reflect the struggle and ambivalence she has with her power : being fair and respect law is one of them. She often (if not always) fails but that attempt very human. Faes on either side don't seem to bother moral value, but "Fae world" rules and values (I'm not sure I make myself clear).
But why don't they react to this?
no subject
Date: 2010-11-23 03:36 pm (UTC)In the beginning of the ep., when Bo and Kenzi talk with Dyson at the police station and he says : "The most I can do is get my stuff to Fae lab. That means you have to talk to Lauren"
Have I missed something? Did Bo tell them that she has a "problem" with Lauren right now? When did she tell? Have I been asleep all this time?

Date: 2010-11-23 10:46 pm (UTC)I KNOW! That really bothered me. That after saying they talk about her all the time, and that they were going to focus on Kenzi this time, she totally just tunes Kenzi out.
It's like, I'm glad they hinted that she missed Saskia, but it made her look like a jerk. They should have just started the scene with Bo looking at Saskia's jacket, and then had her turn away from it and actually FOCUS on Kenzi like she said she would. It would have made her look like a good friend, while also showing that Saskia was on her mind.
Thank god for Kenzi and Trick. At this point I'm mostly watching for them and the hope of more Lauren angst.
These are the three reasons I'm watching the show.
Mind you, where did the Dyson/Bo love come from?
I actually thought Dyson/Bo was tuned down quite a bit this episode (well, other than Dyson constantly offering to help 'heal' her).
Relationships in this show are starting to remind me of Glee.
LOL! Oh god, that is so sad. The characters and relationships are Glee are so paper thin. I have to agree with you though. I mean, at the beginning of the episode, Bo is all "things are complicated between Dyson and I", and then Dyson proceeds to be super friendly and supportive the whole episode! (I suppose in a shipper way, we could read Bo's reluctance to call him up for a roll in the hay as her being still hung up on Lauren) And last episode, while Dyson helped Bo out he was at least pretending to be reluctant whereas this episode (for seemingly no reason) he was super-helpful and not snarky at all. 0_o

From:popping in to discuss Lost Girl!
Date: 2010-11-24 01:03 am (UTC)For my money, I don't think that Bo hugged Dyson just looking to get back at Lauren; I think Bo was genuinely looking for some sort of reassurance and comfort, as well as a way to thank Dyson. But I don't think she got out of the hug what she was looking for (though I doubt she knows what she was really looking for), hence the way she quickly disengaged, and I think it's because it wasn't really Dyson she wanted to be hugging. IMO, that shove was born from the frustration of being right next to Lauren yet feeling like she's not able to reach out to her. (Of course, the fact that Bo is the only one getting in her own probably didn't occur to her. Sigh.)
That said, however, I also think Bo was very aware that the hug would upset Lauren. Which is perhaps also why she shoved Dyson away--the moment he started to actually hug her back she recoiled, and I'm willing to bet it was because she instantly felt guilty for a) acting out at Lauren and B) using Dyson to do it. (And then probably pissed that she felt guilty for hurting Lauren, because she very much sees herself as the wronged party here.)
I was given hope by the way that Bo kept it a "platonic" hug even though Dyson was clearly going for a more "romantic" hug/moment. But Bo shut that down and kept it on the friends-only level, which is interesting. I also found their body language extremely telling. When the scene opens, all three are oriented toward the body--Bo and Lauren directly across from each other and Dyson splitting them, his gaze perpendicular to theirs, which is not the first time the show's used that blocking. Once Bo says the guy was Dark, Dyson's body immediately angles toward hers--you can tell that he's very much trying to make it a conversation between the two of them, and clearly treats Lauren as an interloper when she speaks. But Bo doesn't reciprocate the body language--right before Dyson says "I'll handle this, Bo," you can see that her body is oriented somewhere in between Dyson's and Lauren's, and she has to turn her head and her body slightly to hug him. I don't think the blocking being like that is unintentional, even if the acting in that scene didn't quite convey a clear message.

Date: 2010-11-24 01:22 pm (UTC)You have a higher opinion of Bo, than I do. I still can't help but see it as a giant 'FU'.
We've just never seen Bo react to her life being in danger like that, by flinging herself at Dyson and clinging to him. The hug seemed very un-Bo-like, and the situation (compared to others she had been in) didn't seem extreme enough to provoke such an uncharacteristic reaction.
I saw Bo's eyes dart quickly towards Lauren before she hugged him, and I think it was a calculation on her part. Opportunity presented itself (both Dyson and Lauren in the same room) and Bo took the opportunity to try and hurt Lauren (like Bo feels Lauren wounded her) by rubbing it in that she is still literally within Dyson's reach, but out of Lauren's.
But I don't think she got out of the hug what she was looking for (though I doubt she knows what she was really looking for), hence the way she quickly disengaged
I do think that she did get out of the hug because she didn't really get what she wanted out of it. Sticking it to Lauren probably wasn't as satisfying as she thought it would be (possibly since she really wanted to be hugging Lauren as you suggested) and she probably also came to the realization that the way she using Dyson was kind of douchey.

I hadn't thought about the blocking before, but you're quite right. Upon rewatching the scene, Dyson moving closer to Dyson and trying to draw her complete attention is quite clear. And Bo does remain looking almost between them, easily able to see (choose) either one.
The blocking was quite a good representation of the relationship between all of them, with Lauren a bit off to the side and separated, while Bo and Dyson are physically close to each other, but with an emotional distance between them. Dyson clearly wants her focused on him, while Bo is torn between both of them, while Lauren hangs back cautiously, observing and coveting.

Date: 2010-11-25 03:17 am (UTC)Bo was... well, let's just say if the entire episode was about Kenzi, it would've been much better.
Lauren! *grin* That awkward moment stretched on forever plus the "I choose Dyson over you" hug was a bit much.
Yay for a new succubus on the block, one who is not emotionally stunted and knows how to use her stuff.
Dyson was much better this episode, very un-douchy of him.
The Kenzi and Trick adventure was excellent. And for Hale, because I welcome his prescene.
