I was really excited when I saw that you had written another LOtS fic, especially in this universe. I have to apologize for not commenting on more of your update posts, I was always a little giddy when I saw a new post from you.

I love how sweet Cara was even though the attention towards her sweetness made her uncomfortable. The evolution of your Cara was subtle and so well done that the way she behaves with Dahlia fits perfectly. With cannon!Cara it is a little difficult to imagine her having emotional chats, being aware and sensitive to someone else's feelings--like Dahlia not being comfortable being intimate around the others--as well as having a cute and funny little conversation about pet names.

Thank you for sharing this with us. While not a resolution I do promise to try and be better about commenting this year!

Short of just squealing like a fangirl at the return of one of my beloved C/D 'verse, these are the highlights of this story for me:

1) The general tone of the story and the playful banter among all the characters carried the sweet scent of home from the ALTNWO universe. It was like you (and all of them) never left. I can't believe this was written August of last year! You got back into the groove with your first sentence, landing solidly in the heart of things and just walking alongside the gang, like nothing was amiss. How do you do that? *gapes in awe* The seemingly effortlessly way you revisited this alt universe and expanded it to accommodate the next phase of their adventure together still blows me away; sequels are often tricky, but this one was putty in your hands from start to finish. Bravo! :)


2) Oh Dahlia (your Dahlia)! Is there anyone alive or fictional that is immune to you charms? In less than a day, Kahlan made you her unofficial 'girl' bff, Zedd found himself a fun and worthy opponent in his 'battle of wits' game, and Richard... well, let's just say Dahlia was another tangible proof that Richard may have been Lord Rahl by birthright, but we all know who lords over who most of the time... ;) LOL!

Your solid development of Dahlia and her unique characteristics, as well as her unique and profound influence on Cara (and as a consequence, on all the other members of the LotS gang) during ALTNWO served as the emotional anchor that drives this alt universe to greater heights of reading enjoyment and immersion. I rarely ship C/D (my OTP being C/K since the beginning), but in this verse, Cara/your Dahlia is my headcanon. :)


3) The C/D banter, dialogue and interaction! No other words from me would exalt them higher, so I would just quote my top 3 favorites (To quote all my faves would be copying this fic verbatim)

"I don't think so. Your ego doesn't need any more stroking," Dahlia replied, shaking her head from side to side with playful militancy. "'My girl' will do just fine," Dahlia continued, laughing softly when Cara leaned forward and nipped at her neck in teasing warning, "And, on occasion, perhaps Pookie?"

"So, what should I address you as? Mistress Cara, former First Sister at the Temple of Amun, Saviour of the Night Wisps and Untold Scores of Puppies, Head of Scowling and Chief Rabbit Hunter for the True Lord Rahl?" Dahlia asked cheekily.

"You forgot Expert Pleasurer of Women, Slayer of Shadrin's, Rescuer of Do-Gooders, and Empress of the Agiel," Cara drawled in response, her lips curving up when Dahlia rolled her eyes at her.

"Not to mention High Chancellor of Humility," Dahlia breathed sarcastically, "and, of course ... Queen of my Heart," she cooed softly a second later, stroking Cara's cheek tenderly and she gazed at her with infinite affection.

"We should sleep before you provoke my passion again," Cara murmured.

"My mere presence provokes your passion," Dahlia responded smirking at Cara.

I'm so glad you liked the return to this verse. When I got back to them I realized how much I'd missed them and I think I'm going to have to come back to them again soon :)

lol, yeah, if Cara wasn't bad ass enough to scare people off just by looking at them she'd have to beat women off of Dahlia with a stick! I'm so happy you're enjoying her, and the dynamics she helps bring out. Group scenes are so much fun to write with these guys!

But seriously, you have given us so much with these beautiful tales, I wish I could do something tangible for you (and the others who writes, creates artwork, makes graphic manipulations and videos and other beautiful works of art to enrich this fandom), but sadly my set skills are freakishly lacking in this department :(. (When the Creator handed out talent in the arts, I think I was buried nose-deep into my science project, I didn't even get the empty bucket. I kid you not :)). This is what I've got: a genuine appreciation of the time, effort and passion you pour into your creations, and an ounce of courage to shamelessly scream it in the internet world with my novel-length comments full of squealing and fangirling I hope you are not getting too tired/annoyed to read! Lol! :)

Your group scenes and mini-pairings scenes (C/D/K, K/D/Z, D/Z, K/D, R/C and all other permutations available) are like rays of sunshine I want to put in vials, to bring out on sad, bleary days. Your stories and the magical way you bring them to life bring an instant smile to my face and in a minute, I'm feeling 10x lighter and happier. This is what your stories do to me. :)

I will be looking forward to future adventures of the expanded gang of lovable 'misfits with a mission' from your very talented and capable hands. :)

A follow-up to ALTNWO! Now I need only wait for Embers, Alexandra Quick and the fast to end, and my day will be complete!

Loved this. I think it was the general tone, keeping Cara's characteristics while at the same time showing her softer side with Dahlia. My favorite part was when the shared their bedroll, and had their little talk. Even if Dahlia isn't Mord'Sith any more, she's still wicked and has a sharp tongue. And those pet names... so cute and evil! I can just see a scene where they remake some of those memories they no longer have when they were both Mord'Sith.

And on an unrelated note, join us at Kushiel Sorting! We've just started discussing Chapters 5-8 of Kushiel's Chosen, and I would love to know your thoughts.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! I'm so glad others missed them too so this foray into fluffiness wasn't completely self-indulgent ;) I love that idea you mentioned of them making new memories and a new history together now. There's something so wonderfully star-crossed about their relationship. I really mourn there being no season 3 because I would have loved to see them meet again on the show.

Ah, I'd love to read/discuss Kushiel's Chosen, but I haven't read it before and I don't want to be spoiled (and with the holidays ending *sob* I'm going to be reading so slowly).

In any case, I can't wait for more Melisande fic (or Kushiel Trilogy in general), especially inspired by Kushiel's Chosen, where Melisande pulls some of my favorite 'Magnificent Bastard Chess-Mistress moves by Melisande'.
