Oh man, my girls episode hasn't even aired yet and the TWoP L Word board is already alight with people calling out for her Nordic blood! (or for her to come sit next to them!). What you may ask could have these Lphiles calling for my ladies blood, well this quote apparently from a recent interview interview:

Her character will be on the series through the rest of the season, but unlike Shepherd and Matlin, Loken has no plans to return to the show, regardless of whether 'Painkiller Jane' is a hit. She called Chaiken and the other producers and writers 'fantastic,' but said her 'L Word' run was soured by 'the most difficult cast I've ever worked with.' 'I'm not naming names,' she said. 'Let's just start with the fact that it's an entire show of women. And the amount of egos and insecurities and cattiness that can go on with a bunch of women - that's what you get. It attracts certain people that want to do something different in their career, but the girls were tough. You know?' Loken continued.

Personally, I'm in the 'come sit next to me' category (oh, come on at least pretend to be surprised by that!). All of the behind the scenes news on this show has always been more fascinating to me than the actual show, and this season it's been especially fun because of the main casts bitterness with everything Chaiken. Ever since Erin Daniels departure certain cast members have been bitching about how things just arent' the same, pretty much everyone has complained about their storylines, Beals and Holloman are purposefully acting against direction in their quest to get Bette and Tina back together, and everyone has been disgruntled and vocal about their dissatisfaction with the shows ever expanding cast. Not to mention that the cast apparently had absolutely nothing to do with Ion Overman when she was on the show, former cast member Karina Lombard was openly mocked on some season 2 DVDs, and other guest stars not to mention Sarah Shahi (before she and her Shahi's were fully initiated) talked about the fact that it was a difficult cast to integrate into. And this was before their storylines went to shit, Dana died, and the ensemble went from around 7 to 17.

Sounds like a fun work enviroment to me. I'm shocked that Kris didn't find it to be sunshine, lollipops, rainbows and everything that's wonderful.

It's hilarious to me, that with BloodRayne under her belt and unemployment looming in the future that she was like "later bitches!" and asked not be brought back. Thank goodness Painkiller Jane came along though because I don't think I'd have been as amused if it meant that I couldn't watch Kris on my TV every week.

Still, despite all the drah-mah, based on the highlighted parts below I think I'll enjoy Kris's run on the L Word, brief as it may be.

Did she choose her route down the genre road? 'Not really, not really,' Loken said. 'I feel like it chose me.' She laughed, and added: 'I've been this height since I was 18 years old. On 'The L Word' it didn't really matter because we're all the same lying down, and that's what we did for half the show.'

Anyway, I'm glad that my girl is in fighting form thanks to Painkiller Jane because if she encounters a genuine L Word fan on the street there just might be a throw down.

Wow! Sounds like working on The L Word is a total trip. I'm not really surprised. In fact - okay bear with me here, this is post beer bash and my thoughts are a little hard to focus :p - I was just thinking earlier today about this Spashley fic that's really written very well, and yet for some reason, I can't really connect with it. I realized it's because it's one of these lesbian ensemble fics with all the female drama that implies, which unfortunately I can only take in small doses. I'm always sad that I don't know more lesbians in RL, but when I hang out with too many lesbians, I end up feeling like I'm in an artificial environment where people have strange mental problems and downwardly mobile aspirations I cannot relate to. It sucks that the people I spend most of my time with have always been goal driven, overachieving guys - hazards of a geeky job - and it only makes the contrast greater.
Anyways, Kris rocks for not putting up with that stuff. More power to her.

I've read some of the behind scenes stuff but, oh man, I didn't realize it was *that* bad. I stopped going to TWoP's L-Word boards somewhere around the *first* time it got locked. And, dude, I'm totally dropping my Showtime subscription the day after Loken's exit. If it weren't for Dexter so frakkin' addictive, I wouldn't have had a subscription at all.

To be fair, I don't think this is a lesbian thing, I think this happens with straight women also. I had this weird experience a couple of months back when I went to a foreign (ultra straight) women meeting in Tokyo. I think there were sane people sitting quietly in the back, but for some reason the meeting and the organization seemed to have been taken over by the mental ones.
The good news is that it makes it easier to find the girls that don't fit that mold, so hang in there!

lol, to say the least. Especially this season. Take a look at this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL2AaCQoalM) video to see some of the dynamics at work (it's pretty much the last segment). It's Kate Moennig and Leisha Hailey at an event promoting ourchart with Ilene Chaiken, and they both just look like they want her to die ... slowly and painful. Kate actually cracks me up because it's like she's not even bothering to try and hide her annoyance. You compare that to Mandy Musgrave and Gabrielle Christian who ever interviewed with Angela Robinson about GirlTrash right before the L Girls interview and you can really see the tension in the L Word one. I so would have loved to be a fly on that set. I don't think any of the cast meant to be, I dont' know .... dismissive or whatever. I just think they were really unhappy in general and that had to translate into their attitudes on set. Not to mention that the newbies (Cybil and Marlee) have been getting almost all of the press, and I see a lot of very unhappy campers.

I've got to second to third this. And like you said, it's not just lesbians, but large groups of females that are put together. And I don't like to say it as a woman, but much of the time (though not all of the time) it's true. Just this week I was dealing with girl drama and just ... ugh.

It's Queer Lounge at the Sundance Film Festival and at the end of the clip, Kate Moennig and Leisha Hailey are shown with Ilene Chaiken, and looks of pure hate and annoyance that they send her way are gold.

And the fans over at TWoP are ridiculous. You should hear the way they're going on about JB (she's "complex" and "sensitive" and "shy" and "the quintessential Bette Porter" and poops gold bricks and rescues orphan kitties), like she's the second coming or something. I mean, I like JB fine, but she's not Aphrodite incarnate or something. They're like "how dare someone imply that these women aren't absolutely perfect in every way! Loken should be glad that she had the opportunity to breath the same air as them, and if it wasn't for the L Word she would be living in a ditch somewhere fighting hobo's for week old pizza crust!"

Loken didn't need any special coaching (or coaxing) for her L Word sex scenes. Considering that she's quite the alpha female - Pink even complained in an interview that Loken wanted to "dominate" her - Loken presented a challenge for Moennig, whose character has always been the show's uber-alpha.
"I don't think on-screen Kate's ever had a lover who
(a) has been in same-sex relationships [in real life] and
(b) has been physically bigger than her," says Loken.

"She's fairly tall but she's very skinny, while I'm almost a 6-foot, 150-pound woman. So there was a little bit of this back-and-forth thing before the first love scene-we can chuckle about it now-like, 'Who's gonna be on top?' I relented and was like [to her], 'You know what? Just try it. Just go for it.'

You'll have to watch to see how that ended," says Loken with a huge grin, implying that it was no contest.
"I think she and Kate have amazing chemistry on-screen-it's neat to see Shane contest with Paige," says Robinson. And se¬ries creator Ilene Chaiken describes them simply as "hot together."

What it may come down to is that it's a good idea that there be some interactions between the genders. 'Cause the boys also go nuts when they're amongst themselves. We were talking about all boys' school for some reason during the beer bash today. There were two guys who said they attended one, one Canadian, one American. They made them sound like they're pure hell. Things get much more civilized when girls are added to the mix.

I don't usually care about backstage gossip and news but this has got me curious about all the in-fighting on the L Word set. But then, so long as they continue to entertain me, I don't care if they have duels to the death every week over who gets the last croissant.

The TWOP and other types of communities seem to be filled with people who either think the sun shines out of an actor/creator's backside or that they're the devil's child come to earth. It's such a weird environment that it's best not to venture near, just in case you get contaminated.

Now we just need to hope the people at Painkiller Jane see sense and give Kris's character someone little she can dominate... I wonder if Michelle is free?

That being said, I'm really curious who the real bitches on set were, because from Kris's Adovcate Interview it sounded like she liked working with Kate. I'm totally going to be keeping an eye on who she has screen time with.

So true. They are so adorable. I love them. They looked especially cute in their winter gear. I thought it was sweet how they looked at each other and then threw the question over to Angela. GirlTrash seems like its going to be tons of fun. Plus, I take this as utter confirmation that it is in no way a joke and in a month or so we WILL be seeing webisodes :D So yay!

Bring on the Mabrielle. Considering my feelings about Spashley right now, I think I could use some good Mabrielle ficage.

lol, I'm not usually big on behind the scenes gossip either, but this intrigued me. Honestly until this season I hadn't paid much attention to the gossip, but it was inescapable this year. In fact, I think that the only thing that could keep me watching after Loken's departure is if a video of the cast fighting over a croissant turns up on youtube. The insane gossip is actually more interesting to me than the show (though I will admit this season is leaps and bounds above seasons 2 and 3 so far).

So true. Everyone is either demonized or canonized over there. And they are harsh to the extreme when they don't like someone. There is no grey area or middle ground.

My friends and I actually watched that commentary right after. One of us had both DVD's on hand, but had never actually watched the commentaries. Mila and Oded were beautiful together. We did our best to ignore the annoying British woman. Mila's such a rock star! She can't go into a movie without crazying up her hair, taking off her clothes and beating people. Not necessarily in that order. Which only makes me want her music cd more. ::pines::

You look at their IMDB enteries and there's tumbleweeds blowing through. Seriously, what is Leisha Hailey going to do ban Kris from staring in Yoplait ads, or Jennifer Beals blacklist her from bad Lifetime movies of the week? Maybe Kate Moennig will have her name struck off of the list of people allowed to make 5 min. cameo's in shitty independant movies.

In any case, I can imagine that L Word land is a ... unique environment, that obviously some people are too sane to be able to deal with. Whatever, Kris can go and produce her show about mutants that will probably still be more realistic and require less suspension of disbelief than TLW.

That's very true. She just said that it was a difficult cast in general, not that anything was done or said to her in particular. If the cast has been unhappy with their storyline and the creative powers behind the show, they might have been arguing about lines (I know JB and LuH talked about giving their own spin to scenes with their characters against what Ilene wanted, so directors etc. might have had a problem with that that extended shoots or made the atmosphere awkward), and just been generally morose and uncooperative.

Sounds like Kris and Angela got along great and had a god time working together which I hope will translate to some fun projects in the future.

One can only hope. My god, could you imagine if Angela managed to get Kristanna and Jordana Brewster together in the same project (ANY project, I'm not gonna be greedy) ... I swear the movie would have to come with a warning label.

Seriously though, I'd love to see a collaboration between the two of them, because Angela's awesome, and Kris is awesome which could only spawn more awesome (I'm pretty sure that can be proven mathematically).

Also, "There's just no drama with her-she's really fun..." if Angela says it then it must be true. I just liked that quote in addition to what we had been discussing earlier.

P.S. I added a screenshot I found of Shane and Paige meeting for the first time. Not loving the shirt, but as Tim Gunn would say, Kristanna "makes it work" or maybe the extremely open 'V' makes it work. Seriously, in a couple more years Paige's kid is gonna be extremely popular, lol

At Sundance Kate looks bored and pissed at the same time, ready to punch IC. Leisha just looks as if she tries not to laugh out loud. Watching IC giving her speech about the awesomeness of ourchart or mychart or whatever it is called is like watching a bad car seller: it looks so desperate and phoney that you almost want to buy the car to stop the misery.

anyway, I think it is great that Kristina does not sell her integrity and give up fun just to be on the L word by doing the whole "the show is great, the cast is one big happy family" spiel.

I'm thinking positive thoughts. I don't know why it wouldn't happen. You heard Angela say in the Queer Lounge clip that Girltrash is basically about 'asskicking girls who kick ass'. Sounds like she likes those kinds of projects, and if that isn't a good start for a movie with Kris, you can always add Jordanna to the mix. Although there'd be a Shane effect I would think. Kris would totally top her even if Jordanna gives it her best shot. Which would be very worthwhile of course :D.

That's my kind of woman. I totally love her sensibility (well, for her own projects, not so much when she needs a paycheck to pay off the mortgage and does Disney projects). I could watch funny movies about girls kicking ass and making out with each infinity billion times.

lol. I don't know, I don't think Kris would have to work very hard to dominate Jordana. Jordana's pretty shy, and describes herself as being the opposite of Lucy Diamond personality wise, actually more of an Amy. They'd probably have long verbal battles with witty repartee though. Which is hot. And then Kris would be on top.

It is indeed pastel tie die. And it works for me too ... but only because it's on Kris. She could be wearing a burlap sack and I'd be like "That's hot". I think the best option is that she just go nude.

We so need more funny movies that just take it for granted that the girls that kick ass are going to want to make out with each other. One of the things I love about DEBS is that Angela did such a great job of making a fun, girl centric movie, that's basically a lesbian love story - with the obligatory ass kicking - but totally age appropriate for anyone in the family. I can't think of any other movie that comes close to this level of good, clean fun for the whole family while being about lesbians.
