OMG! So good.
Well, "Planet Terror" was just alright. Loved the opening credits with Rose McGowan go-go dancing. That was like the best opening credit sequence ever. Was quite surprised by the fact that Fergie could kind of act. LOVED Marley Shelton (something I never thought I'd say) as Dr. Dakota Block, Freddie Rodriquez was pretty bad-ass as El Wray and is quite the looker, but the movie dragged a little and I was convinced that Cherry and Dakota would make-out in the end and so when they didn't I was irrationally pissed off (I've devised I much sexier ending in my mind, which cheers me up a little though).
"Death Proof" was like the best thing ever though! I LOVED "Death Proof". Some people are like 'oh the first storyline was boring' or 'oh, there's too much talking' blah blah blah. SHUT IT! "Death Proof" ROCKED and it had the best ending possibly ever!
First off, Vanessa Ferlito is HOT! I don't care what you say, her nose has character. HOT!
Secondly, Sydney Poitier is sexy (especially when shaking her ass, and when Vanessa Ferlito is resting her head on her pillowy bosom). And that's SYdney Poitier, NOT SIdney Poitier, she's his daughter (although I'll admit I got a giggle out of seeing "The Girls" title flash by and seeing the name follow because I forgot about the 'y' and was expecting the man himself to show up).
Kurt Russel rocks. I loved him as Stuntman Mike, especially in the second storyline. He was just awesome at the end there.
Tracie Thoms is the coolest motherfucker on the planet. Seriously. I'm pretty sure that after watching "Death Proof" that's a scientific fact. I love Tracie Thoms, I want to have her babies. *swoons*
I was only vaguely aware of who Zoe Bell was before this movie, and I didn't really like her at the beginning but now I love the bitch. She is one awesomely crazy mofo, and can totally handle a lead pipe ... which I think we all know is hot.
Rosario baby, those bangs ... no. Everything else about Abernathy, yes. And she got one of the coolest shots in the movie as well. Awesome.
Serioiusly, "Death Proof" = love.
The 'prevues' they showed before and between the features were awesome as well.
"If you're thinking of opening that door ... DON'T!!"
"If you're thinking of going into the basemet ... DON'T!"
"If you're thinking about seeing this movie alone ... DON'T!"
"Don't" and "Thanksgiving" were my favorites, though I think "Werewolf Women of the SS" wins for best title.

Date: 2007-04-09 02:36 am (UTC)Right now, "Death Proof" still gets a higher rating from me, but who knows how it might be on rewatch. I loved the ending of "Death Proof" so much that it might be giving it an unfair advantage, lol.

i do however love planet terror a wee bit more cuz ya know...amputees, zombies, lesbians, and blood orgies
Tis true, "Planet Terror" did have a go-go dancer with a gun for a leg, lesbians (though oddly for a trash film no on-screen action) ... it also had one of the best delivered lines of both movies "I will eat your brains ... [high pitched] and gain your knowledge!" from Dakota's son.
But "Death Proof" also had kick-ass dialogue, Vanessa Ferlito AND Sydney Poitier's asses shaking, pseudo-lesbian lounging, Tracie Thoms ruling the world, Zoe Bell pwning all stuntage ever, Lee actually saying 'gulp', Kurt Russell crying like a twelve year old girl, and THE BEST ENDING EVER ON FILM.
...hmm...i think lesbian and blood orgies seem to go hand in hand
They certainly seem to these days. Mmm, Blade. Mmm, Rise. Mmm, Planet Terror.
tracie is definitely my front runner to playing agent 355 in the y: the last man movie just so we can see some more of her bad assery.
So true. This movie just confirmed that she is like the best choice ever to play 355. I seriously couldn't think of anybody that could do a better job. Plus if Ryan Reynolds did play Yorrick, they would be like the crazy best combination ever. Sarcasm coming out of the wahzoo. It'd be glorious.
um..no mention of "machete"??...;)
lol, Machete was good. Machete suffered for me because it was the very start of the film, and there were some issues at the theatre I was at that distracted me at the beginning of the film. Danny Trejo rocks though. "Hobo with a Shotgun" was pretty funny too.

Date: 2007-04-09 01:53 am (UTC)We'll just have to console ourselves with the thought that Cherry has Dakota Block to comfort her. Maternal/doctorly bonding FTW!

Date: 2007-04-09 02:50 am (UTC)This is how it ends in my head. Cherry of Arabia and G.I. Block dealing with the shattered world around them by having tons of hot sex, and playing cute games with the baby (because you know Cherry wasn't planning on getting knocked up and knows nothing about baby's so Dakota totally has to help her take care of the kid and one thing leads to another and ... giggidy giggidy)

Date: 2007-04-09 08:20 pm (UTC)Fuck'em indeed! That ridiculous. The double-feature and all of the trailers are like half of the greatness of the movie. Boo, boo!
Tracie Thoms was brilliant in everything I have seen her in so far.
Oh, you'll love her in this. I liked her in "Wonderfalls" and "Rent", but I LOVED her as Kim. Seriously she and Zoe Bell walk away with "Death Proof". Tracie is just incredibly bad-ass in it. She owns the role, so any Tracie fan will definately be happy.

Date: 2007-04-09 08:55 pm (UTC)I loved Wonderfalls. Actually I still do. But I don't think I have seen her doing a bad-ass routine so far.
Totally off topic, but I read a Rent pre-movie story over the weekend, and Tracie Thoms as Joanne was almost palpable.
That was random, I reckon my sleeping pill is kicking in, better go to bed then :)

Date: 2007-04-13 06:36 am (UTC)I don't know if I have a favorite though. "Planet Terror" was, overall, the better movie but "Death Proof" had a) the best ending ever and b) one of the greatest car chase sequences in the history of cinema!! Like, as much as I liked "Death Proof", when I buy it on DVD, I'm totally skipping the first hour and getting to the good stuff (despite Sydney Poitier's awesome hair and Vanessa Ferlito's ass shaking). With "Planet Terror", I'll watch the whole thing over and over. "Death Proof", especially the first half, just became a bit too self-indulgent with the extended conversations that never really went anywhere.. unless Kurt Russell was onscreen.
Either way, I would have preferred to see a double bill of "Don't" and "Machete" instead. The good news - it's being reported that Rodriguez is going to make "Machete" into a feature.
Also, wow, the older Josh Brolin gets, the more he looks like his father!
Oh, and poo on America for not going to see this in droves! Which means we won't get more double bills in the future. Admittedly, releasing a 3-hour plus movie in friggin' April instead of the summer probably wasn't the best of ideas. And, it would really help if Hollywood/Theatre Owners considered bringing back the intermission.
