fembuckWell, I probably would have really liked that episode if it wasn't possibly the last one of the series. There was a lot of cool, amazing, awesome badassery in it, but there was also some serious "What is this? I don't even".
Let's start with ...
THE BAD
1. Zedd doing the 'unbreaking spell' on Dahlia didn't enrage me as much as it has enraged others, but I certainly didn't like it. It seemed like a really lazy and insulting way to wrap up a storyline from a useless episode that shouldn't even have been made in the first place.
Sacrificing Cara's development and an insight into Cara's past and what/who helped make Cara who she was to wrap up a storyline from a fucking AU episode that added nothing to anything, is just UGH!
Mostly, it just left me feeling like I was wrong to give the writers any credit whatsoever for "Eternity" and the Cara/Dahlia relationship. It has become clear to me now that like 90% of the awesome of "Eternity" was due to Tab and Laura Brent bringing their "A" games and adding a ton of emotion between Cara/Dahlia that the writers probably didn't intend, but were perfectly happy to let stand once they saw it onscreen.
2. Kahlan's tears save the world? Um, I love me some Kahlan Amnell, in fact I love me a lot of Kahlan Amnell, but ... UGH! Seriously. I know it plays into that whole "As long as the Mother Confessor's pure heart beats the Keeper cannot win" prophecy, but still. It seemed like a really cheap way to wrap up a season long arc in like 4 minutes.
THE GOOD
1. CARA! I loved so much about Cara in this episode. Her suspicious looks at Zedd when he was so happy to see her amused the hell out of me.
HER EPIC GIRL!LOVE FOR KAHLAN WAS GREAT! Cara was reluctant to fight! CARA. WAS RELUCTANT TO FIGHT because she didn't want to hurt Kahlan! The way she looked to Zedd for help because she really didn't want to have to genuinely fight Kahlan made me swoon a little. And then of course, Cara's inability to shoot Kahlan because she was afraid that she wouldn't be able to bring her back with the breath of life. D'awwwwwww x infinity plus one.
Cara: Who's in charge here?
Garren: I am.
*Cara's bitch slaps her*
Cara: Who's in charge here?
Garren: You are.
SWOON x forever plus a day! OMG CARA YOU FABULOUS BITCH! This scene made me tear up because after I was done clapping and celebrating Cara's awesomeness, I realized that I would never again get to witness new acts of badassery from Cara fucking Mason the Queen of everything. *sob*
Also, for some reason Zedd and Cara ducking down behind the roof when Con Dar!Kahlan looked over at them really cracked me up.
2. KAHLAN! I honestly found sub!Kahlan to be ridiculously amazingly panty dampeningly hot. I feel kind of bad about how much Kahlan differing to Nicci turned me on. Bridget Regan, my god you are amazing. *bows down* We are not worthy. The things that woman can convey with her eyes are just *swoons* I can't even really type about this more because every time I think about sub!Kahlan my mind wanders to very very pleasing places.
And Con Dar!Kahlan is fucking scary and awesome. I loved seeing Kahlan go all Con Dar and VENGEFUL again. I should probably be worried about how attractive I find Kahlan when she is stabbing the shit out of people, but I'm not because it's Kahlan/Bridget and she's amazing.
3. I did like that Kahlan and Richard realized that he can't be confessed because of his epic love for her. But it honestly didn't have the impact that it should have because they shoved it into the last 10 seconds of the show and it had to be narrated by Zedd (like far too many things in the episode. The episode should have been called, "Zedd explains things because we tried to cram too much into 44 minutes".)
Also, it was really bittersweet for me, seeing Cara standing off to the side on her own (and not because I'm C/K shipper, but because her love, her chance for happiness had just been wiped out of existence 40 minutes before). It's nice that at least its canon now that K/R can like legit get it on, and K/R shippers have probs been waiting for this for a while, but it was really rushed, and I felt badly for Cara.
4. Nicci was amazing. I love the costuming department and their appreciation for showing off long, lean, fabulous legs. Even though Nicci was all evil and shit she was fun to watch, and she werked that glam!rock outfit. I have to say I felt really fucking bad for Nicci at the end of the episode. I don't even want to imagine what EVIL shit Darken Rahl is going to do to her. Like think about what he did to Cara and he LIKED Cara. *shudder*
Now, I'm probably missing out a bunch of things, but I probably need to rewatch before I can think about things clearly. Again, as a season finale this would have made me really happy (except for point #1 under "The Bad" behind the cut), but as a series finale it's just left me feeling really sad and unfulfilled because there is so much more story to tell.
I DON'T WANT THIS SHOW TO END! *bawls like a baby*

Date: 2010-05-24 02:11 am (UTC)May I try to sooth you’re THE BAD impressions from “Tears”? Zedd is absolute idiot and ass-hands down. But I was happy that he was so impressed by Cara’s impact to everything what could happen in the world and decided to go for Dahlia instead-was a smart move. I liked Dahlia but I am 100% Cara’s fan and I wouldn’t like him to continue his sloppy experiments on her. “Eternity” was one of the best episodes but just to think about what horror Cara went through I just want to scream “that’s enough pain for one person”- her son’s cruel death, her torture and then unimaginable horror of hundreds souls ripping her off. I don’t think it was even possible for Kahlan and Richard to summon her back with all love possible. Probably the writers had a variant where the merry gang goes after Rahl and destroys the Agiel and then they decided to go to AU story instead, at least they showed Cara’s importance to the world destiny, which I approve. She is a main hero character who deserves to be appreciated as one even she doesn’t believe in it. Agree with others who said if there is a destiny she will meet non-Mord’Sith Dahlia and they can have a better future and have some great chemistry for many episodes… dreaming… I don’t think that Cara’s character should have been changed in the second AU. She is who she is. She ALWAYS WAS that brave little girl who would hold the other girl’s hand, keeping her from crying - Dahlia or not. She had and has this ability in her – of compassion and love- she showed her compassionate nature in a season 1 finale. Dahlia’s impact on this particular chain of events is much less, she was just a weapon in Rahl’s hands to lure Cara and it’s good that he didn’t find somebody else to do it- Cara is such a pimp, she would definitely had different sweethearts in all temples ;) Who would resist her? Seriously, I was happy to see her all grumpy, after-battle-sweaty Cara without knowledge of her son’s death, not brutally tortured again, Cara who was happy to see snow and talking to a Night Wisp. She was being tortured for some 10-12 years and later was torturing others-call it a life!
Yeah, Kahlan’s tears save the world was a cheesy move! But it was a quick fix and she had same feelings as the Creator a long time ago- an overwhelming love and regret- I guess that how tears convert to a stone. And again, all happened just because Cara couldn’t kill her. And later it was Cara, of course, who revived them both: one from death and one from devastation with her breath of life. Ha-ha, poor Kahlan is kept deprived from Cara’s savory breath of life! She always is so eager to get it, but no, uh-uh, she can’t have it, no such luck J
100% agreed on THE GOOD. EPIC CARA, inability to shoot Kahlan, being so emotional and loooving. How she coolly she shot Nicci just with Kahlan between them!

And Cara was amusing hiding behind Zedd when Kahlan tried to confess them- WIN! Her being all HBIC with Garren. GUH, just GUH.

I know, they hugged each other just a few minutes later. Of course, they did, hugging her and Zedd and she was eyerolling and like, I hate when you do these impractical things!

Honestly BR is probably just a better actress than most of the extra's playing confessed people. Cause she made sub!Kahlan really hot when Confessor!Kahlan confessed her too.
BR really does have great comedic timing. I love how she's able to just fully commit to whatever crack the writers throw her way. She really is a fantastic actress. I hope to see much more from her.
May be they will make a movie, like Serenity for Firefly? There-there…
BR was pushing fans to ask for a movie on Attack of the Show so hopefully this is something that is in the realm of possibility. I'd love for the writers to really get a chance to end the story properly, and I'd also love for the actors to be able to give the show, the characters and each other a proper send off, since they were all back home when the news came :(

This is a very good point. Cara had to endure at lot and I'm not sure that it would have really been possible for her to ever 'bounce' back from it. I'm glad that the series ended with my fierce woobified Cara on-screen. Especially since we wouldn't have gotten to see her healing process in season 3, I'm glad that I can feel happy for Cara at the end of the show.

That's an amazing insight. I hadn't even thought of that. I kind of forgot all about that Creator episode because I was so mad about it being a clip show, lol. Cheesy? Yes. But in line with established LotS cheese.
