All I have left to express my feelings are Demotivational Posters. So, here are my feelings on aspects of the series in ... uh, Demotivational Poster form!

Somebody needs to send this to Rachel Morgan...

and this ...

Rachel should also probably take a gander at this ...

I think the following is Cock Blocks PR strategy ...

Now listen up Kimmy Gibbler ...

Femslash fans, can I get an 'AMEN'

This ones for me, and that makes me sad.

Awwwww. *pets* Though I must admit, I giggled over the first two, and the "Challenges" one. Mostly 'cause I've used the Consistency comment before. xDDDDD

lol, I just thought these were so funny. Most of them are. And because I was thinking about The Hollows, I couldn't help but see how applicable a lot of them were.

LOL. Motivational posters do nothing to me. At least demotivational posters makes me laugh.

Couldn't agree more. The demotivational ones are also full of more truth. I'm like "It's funny cause it's true!" for all of them.

I've been actively searching for new authors that can feed my obsession. Jane Fletcher seems like a good choice if one's interest is a gripping story first and relationships second. Just started reading http://www.amazon.com/Dynasty-Rogues-Jane-Fletcher/dp/1933110716/.

Hmm, I'll check it out. Like you I need some new authors to follow now that J.K. doesn't have anything new out, I'm Scott Westerfield'd out, and now that I've finished Libba Bray's "Gemma Doyle Trilogy" (which is completely awesome, and which you should check out if you haven't).

Libba Bray's "Gemma Doyle Trilogy": I've read it, didn't like it. *shrug*
There are a lot of brilliant lesbian books out there that aren't sci-fi or fantasy (Blayne Cooper, Karin Kallmaker, Kim Pritekel, Meghan O'Brien...) The trick is finding those that are (and are also good in both departments). Urban fantasy is what I'm after, and slow-building romantic non-het relationships.
I've searched through a lot but Kim Harrison seems really unique in that regard, sadly.
About Jane Fletcher, her world has no men and other women impregnating other women through magic, so... yeah. Not ordinary fantasy by any means. Couldn't continue reading because my brain kept on repeating "this is stupid."

I loved those books (well, mostly the first two. The third dragged on a bit, was really really plotty to the point where I had no idea what was going on a lot of the time, and had some real WTF moments like Kartik's fate). I loved Felicity though, so the fact that her storyline wrapped up well made me happy. I also loved Gemma's feminist ending, lol.

Couldn't continue reading because my brain kept on repeating "this is stupid."

Yeah, I think I'd have the same reaction. It's like, it is not necessary to invent a world without men to have chicks hook up. Men are cool. There's no reason to be that much of a hater. If you substituted the lack of men with women, people would be crying misogyny . And if you substituted like another race in there people would be all

You should start reading Birds of Prey. There are hundreds of issues of ridiculously femslashy goodness and no Cock Blocking in sight.

I really should, I keep hearing about how good the comic is. I'm just feeling daunted by trying to catching up on a gazillion back issues. My inherently lazy nature is holding me back on this one (it's the same reason I haven't seen any of Skins season 3, I just feel like I'm too far behind).

I do have some of the earlier issues downloaded though, so I should get my ass in gear. I love me some Barbara Gordon, and while it's going to take me a while to get over the fact that Black Canary is BG's side-kick instead of Helena Kyle, I'm pretty sure that I can adjust and embrace the homo of Oracle/Black Canary.

no Cock Blocking in sight.

What about Oliver Queen? I thought he was cock-blocking them a little bit? Though, if we never see him I don't really care. I can ignore cock-blocking if it's kept to a minimum.

Basically, toward the end of Gail Simone's run Dinah retires. After that, there's Barbara's incredibly gay college rival coming back for revenge and mucho possibility for hatesex and control issues, but once Gail leaves the title, you're better off pretending that Dinah and Barbara went to Canada to be lady-married.

Although Helena Bertinelli (kinda like Helena Wayne, but she actually thinks to wear a mask) does show up and play Oracle's Big Gay Sidekick for a while. And is incredibly gay for Zinda, Barbara's time-travelling WW2 mini-skirt-wearing pilot.

*laughs* I see you found the applicable demotivators for Cock Block and Rachel. The 'Dysfunction' makes me laugh so much. Seriously, Rachel? You've NEVER NOTICED that?!

and

are 2 prints Rachel should have blown up to billboard size -then put right outside the kitchen window in the graveyard, where she can see it every morning while she's making coffee...

Very much so. They are perfect for expressing my extreme disappointment with the way things are going in the series.

LOL! She really should. But because Rachel's an asshole, if someone did put them up, she'd probably rip them down like she did the "Beyond this sign in unsanctified space" sign that Ivy put up, and she'd just go on being an asshole like always.

P.S. I look forward to seeing you around!

*pats fembuck on back* Aw It'll be okay :-)

I'm okay. Honestly, I just posted these cause I thought they were funny, I wasn't traumatized like I have been when I've posted other rants. I was genuinely distressed then, but this time I was just like "Heh."

I've got another one for Kim in regards to character development/stagnation here ...

Here are some things to entertain yourself with and get your minds off the most ridiculously drawn out and frustrating storyline that is Rachel/Ivy. I used to love them, but now I mostly wish I could scrub my brain with soap and cleanse The Hollows from my mind. I mean the upcoming books will probably feature Trent with Rachel? Glen with Ivy? Thanks, but no thanks.

So having said that if you haven't already, go visit http://thehellmouthrevisted.com and enjoy a ridiculously long and epic Buffy/Faith fanfic that is 100% cockblock free.

If that isn't your bag, then youtube or google for a Skins series 3 torrent. Watch over and over until your heart bursts from joy due to all the goodness that is Naomi/Emily.

If that isn't enough entertainment to get you off the Ravy train (to nowhere) for awhile or if you've already been there, done that and still bangin' your head against the wall then I dunno what to tell ya.

I'll check them out.

I've actually been meaning to check out Skins season 3 for a while, but the epic fail that is my laziness and procrastination has been holding me back (well, that and the fact that I can only take horny teenagers on screen for so long, since I spend my days surrounded by them).

How many episodes are in the season, and does the N/E storyline take up quite a bit of screen time?

Re: It's time for an intervention!

From: [identity profile] kayla-01.livejournal.com
Season 3 has ten episodes in total. Because of the way the show is split up so that each episode focuses on a different character, there are some episodes where N/E stuff barley gets a look in other than a gay-for-each-other glance across the room or something. Then again, that means that the individual Naomi and Emily episodes are all about their storyline.

To be honest, if you were feeling particularly reluctant for watching the whole thing, I bet you could quite easily get away with watching Episode 1 "Everyone", Episode 4 "Pandora", Episode 6 "Naomi" and Episode 9 "Katie & Emily" and episode summaries for the rest. =p

You can be super lazy and go here: http://www.youtube.com/user/ribrust and watch all the Naomi and Emily scenes, but you may have some trouble viewing some of the clips if you live outside the UK. Several people have posted the entire season on youtube, so if you hit that snag you can search around till you find one that's watchable.

If you don't have any qualms about using torrents then go here: http://extratorrent.com/torrent/1835880/Skins+Series+3+COMPLETE+Episodes+1+-10.html and grab the whole thing.

While Naomi/Emily is the highlight of the show for a lot of people, the rest of the show is well worth watching.

In a recent interview the creators of the show said that they will focus even more on N/E next season because the couple have become so popular. So there's that to look forward to as well.

Nice posters. Very applicable to the series.

I've been re-reading the first few books (well, really I've been just skimming them) and I realize that Rachel isn't just an idiot, she's downright juvenile and mean when things don't go her way. And nothing is ever her fault.

It's dispiriting. I used to really love the series, now I can't re-read the books without cataloging Rachel's numerous instances of selfish behavior. And when I first read the books, Jenks was funny. On my re-read I realize he's a little jackass and not in a good, humorous way.

Oops, I ranted a bit. >.>

and I realize that Rachel isn't just an idiot, she's downright juvenile and mean when things don't go her way. And nothing is ever her fault.

I was able to over look these characteristics in Rachel in the first few books, because I honestly thought that she would mature. But, yeah, it gets old really fast. Her habit of saying hurtful things (usually to Ivy) and then muttering sorry doesn't wash anymore. Like, I wouldn't want to know Rachel IRL. Normally, when I love a pairing I'd totally want to hang out with them IRL, but Rachel would bug the shit out of me if we knew each other. I'm always going on to my students about personal responsibility, so it annoys me that Rachel has no sense of this. She's like a fourteen year old girl (the spoiled, bitchy annoying kind, not the cool, funny smart kind).

And when I first read the books, Jenks was funny. On my re-read I realize he's a little jackass and not in a good, humorous way.

I've always thought that Jenks was an immature little shit. Which is why I'm convinced he and Rachel get along so well. A lot of the time I find him irritating and which that he would just shut his tiny little mouth. I'll admit, that the way he's treated Ivy in the past is the main cause of a lot of my annoyance with him, but there are times when they are just out in public and he refuses to behave like an adult, and I'm like "Grow the fuck up dude". But of course, Rachel behaves the same way, mouthing off when she shouldn't and generally acting like she's the Queen of the Universe and everyone should drop everything they're doing to accommodate her, so again, I can see why they are so buddy-buddy.

Yeah, I've never thought Jenks as funny. He's very loyal so at least he has redeeming qualities. Perhaps if I drink a bottle of vodka and stay up for 48 hours, then maybe his jokes will make me smirk.

Then again, a lot of people like Dr. House and he's a total ass. I don't really dislike Rachel. She might not be a very responsible person, but not a lot of young people are. There are a lot of worse things a person can be. At least Rachel tries to be a better person.

When it comes to urban fantasy, Rachel is low (IMHO) on the scale of Queen of the Universe-ness. Most of the protagonist women in urban fantasy are raging egomaniacs. Most people in the books just worship them and grovel at their feet for no particular reason, just because.

There is this. His devotion to Rachel and Matalina are positive characteristics. His love for Matalina more than anything else is why I can't dislike him entirely. But yeah, his 'fairy farts' this and that just aren't amusing to me, and his immaturity can be annoying.

I don't really dislike Rachel. She might not be a very responsible person, but not a lot of young people are. There are a lot of worse things a person can be. At least Rachel tries to be a better person.

I guess I don't dislike Rachel so much as I'm annoyed by her. I have moments of thinking she's hilarious, and moments where I just want to smack her. But, despite the selfishness and lack of impulse control, and moments of pettiness, she does try to improve people's lives. She's not a bad person, she's just got a lot of growing to do.

But I have to say that Rachel isn't really that young anymore. She's like what 25/26 or something by now, that's not ancient but it's like 16 either. People are married with families at that age. Rachel should/could be more mature.

Then again, a lot of people like Dr. House and he's a total ass.

It's funny you mention him, cause I just used a House .gif. I don't like the character though, and can't watch the show cause of how much of an ass he is. I can't like someone who is so willfully mean. The .gif is funny though, so it's fair game ;)

I think you're right about this. I've only recently looked into Urban Fantasy because of Blood Ties, and True Blood, and now the Hollows, and I can't really take it. I honestly believe that Rachel is pretty low on the scale of Queen of the Universeness for Urban Fantasy (I was talking with a friend reading the Sookie Stackhouse series, and I was rolling my eyes practically out of my head at just her descriptions of what was going on), which is why I'm not going anywhere near the Sookie Stackhouse books or the Blood Ties books, because Rachel is too much for me, and she's one of the best!

Witches live for like 300 years in the books IIRC (needs citation).
So Rachel is about 8 or something in "human years".

Date: 2009-04-28 11:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fembuck.livejournal.com
I thought they only lived like 150 years or so.

Either way, vampires live a long time too and Ivy acts like the 30 years old or so she is. Marshall acted like a grown up. Kisten acted like a grown up. Even Nick acted like a douchy grown up.

I mean if Rachel was really 8 in "human years" that would make everyone she slept with like a pedophile/statutory rapist. Witches live a long time, but their mental development follows that of a human, so she's got no excuse. If witches were universally presented as being immature until they were 50 or 60 or something, then okay. But as it stands, Rachel is the only one who comes across so immature.
