Also, I adore Tab's attention to detail.  When Cara's was all like "I'm horny, but I'm not into you" kissing Dahlia at the camp fire she was a little lack luster/closed mouthed about it.  But then when Cara's all full blown evil and "I'mma saunter towards you like a panther cause i'm sexy as shit as I know it" Tab's was all like I'MMA OPEN-MOUTHED KISS THE SHIT OUT OF YOU AND LICK YOUR LIPS!  Oh Tab, Tab, Tab, Tab.  How so glorious?

My guess:  Cara just heard that Legend of the Seeker is getting canceled.  That, or she accidentally started watching an episode of Cougar Town after Modern Family and can't fathom how it's possible for a show to be that bad.

My Guess:  Zedd walked in on a private moment he wasn't supposed to see.  Cara is upset because she thinks that Kahlan's not going to finish what she started, and Kahlan is considering running at Zedd and pushing him down a hill so that she can finish what she started.

P.S.  I love that even non-femslashers are ALL ABOUT CARA, and that on non-femslash communities that people are ship Kahra like whoa.

I wish there would've been more emotional depth in the Dahlia/Cara storyline. Now it just seems a bit gratuitous.

Wow, I had the opposite reaction to Cara and Dahlia. I was worried their relationship was going to be shallow and gimicky, but I thought that it was pretty well done.

Dahlia was someone Cara knew all her life, and had a strong and emotional relationship with. Dahlia wasn't just after hot GoGa or wasn't just using Cara's attraction to trick her, but seemed to really want to bring Cara back into the fold so that they could re-establish their relationship together.

Cara, pre-breaking had real feelings for Dahlia and even tried to get Dahlia to join the quest so they wouldn't have to be split up again. And before even delivering the stone to Darken Rahl, Cara's first action was to find Dahlia so that she would know that Cara hadn't actually betrayed her.

Heck, they were a well known enough couple that even Darken Rahl was aware of their relationship and knew that Dahlia was probably the one person in the world not named Richard, Kahlan or Zedd, that Cara would trust enough to follow.

Craig Parker is really perfect as Darken Rahl. Perfect.

This. I've been really enjoying the amount of screen time he's been getting. I kind of hated Darken Rahl for torturing Cara this week, but last week I was riveted by Parker. He actually made me excited about scene that involved Richard, lol. And he impressed the hell out of me in the "Walter" episode. It's definitely nice to see him finally getting some good material to work with this season.

There better be some closure for Cara/Kahlan. But: I think it's going to get cut because of the cancellation. Q_Q

I'm so worried about this as well. I'm hoping the writers had an end to the arc ready because there had been rumblings about the fate of the show from fairly early on in the season, but you never know.

I just really, really, really hope that Kahlan is key in Cara becoming unbroken. The writers have developed their friendship and emotional connection so much that anything else would be unbelievable and really disappointing. I'm not even talking from a subtexty point of view, from a purely platonic stand-point, Kahlan has been set up as the person that Cara is the most emotionally bonded to. So, I'm with you. I really needs some closure with those two.

Perhaps gratuitous is a wrong word. Too fast, way too fast might be a better description of how it felt to me. I was like who? what? where? why? most of the time. It's either that the whole relationship came out of nowhere or my memory is really bad.

Spending multiple episodes, or a whole episode dedicated to Dahlia/Cara, on telling the back story on their relationship might have alleviated this a lot.

I know this is too much to ask from a mainstream fantasy series, but I really can't settle for any less. Any less just means that I can't get invested in the story at all.

Subtext is interesting in a way that one can do epic romances with it that span episodes, even seasons. But why does it have to be subtext?

I just really, really, really hope that Kahlan is key in Cara becoming unbroken. The writers have developed their friendship and emotional connection so much that anything else would be unbelievable and really disappointing.

In a perfect world it would have been nice to have had a previous mention on Dahlia, and to have been able to see the relationship develop over 4 episodes or so, but I didn't feel short changed by what we got. I guess my expectations were pretty low going in, I thought it was going to be a typical girl-girl sweeps week action or something. So, the fact that Dahlia had a life-long connection to Cara, that Cara had feelings for her pre-breaking, and that they were 'together' at the end of the episode was good for me.

With the nature of the show it just doesn't seem really feasible to have an extended romantic storyline like that unless Dahlia was going to be made a regular.

You make a good point in the emotional investment though. Despite Cara/Dahlia being canon, I'm still much more invested in Cara/Kahlan because we've seen the progression of their relationship and have been able to become invested in them. I'll never really 'ship' Cara/Dahlia because I'll never really get to know Dahlia in a meaningful way.

Yeah, I know it's impossible but how much would I love it if that happened. Honestly, watching this season Cara/Kahlan totally seems like they've been set up for that star-crossed love. But, I'll be happy if the show gives us a nice subtexty ending just like they've given us a delightfully subtexty season.

Yep, I totally understand and agree with you on that. I just didn't put it all in perspective of how bad it all is.

I have to really dig my memory to come up with anything and Dax/Lenara from DS9 is really the only one, and even that wasn't this good.

The more I think about it, the worse it looks; and the better this episode of Seeker comes up as.

Oh, Dax/Lenara. I loved those two back in the day. But yeah, it was like one really small kiss, a lot of cock-blocking from Lenara's brother, and a pretty disappointing resolution.

There was Talia/Susan from Babylon 5, both of them were main characters but their relationship literally spanned one episode and they didn't even kiss. Then Talia was effectively killed off (they very same episode they hooked up).

Firefly had Inara sleep with a woman as a client in one episode, but it was mostly fodder for the crew members to make sexy comments and then her bisexuality wasn't addressed at all again.

Battlestar Galactica insinuated that the 3 and 6 had a threesome with Baltar, and then there was the Gina/Cain "relationship" which didn't involve a kiss or even hand holding, and then disintegrated into a tale of betrayal and rape.

And Dollhouse had a character who appeared in 2 episodes out of 24 reveal that she was a lesbian in the last 5 minutes of the last episode.

Buffy is really the only genre show I can think of that actually showed a same-sex relationship, and it was just my bad luck that I didn't find Tara appealing at all, so I didn't really care about Willow/Tara.

And that's like all I can think of. Slim, slim, slim pickings.

So that was my experience going into this episode, which is why I was so happy with it. It definitely wasn't perfect, and the presentation of f/f relationships has a long way to go in both genre and mainstream tv, but Legend of the Seeker did the best job I've seen so far so I'll give them their due for it. Especially since I had been disappointed with the whole Trianna kiss thing and thought they might drop the ball again.
